Curly, he was 13. He was the year above me at school. It sounds ridiculously young but it never felt that way, we were safe, he was respectful and we were both old for our age IYSWIM.
Even now I get on better with friends 10+ years my age and have been told I have the mentality and mannerisms of someone much older
