DD Didn't get all A*

My DD did her year 10 mocks and on one of the papers she got under an A. I read the paper (English Lit) and I am certain that is was an A, as she has such a good vocabularlrly but the school wont change it despite my calls

I feel this is unfair!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:

Actually the op's opening post doesn't make sense does it? Sounds like she got Bs.

caramelwaffle · 04/07/2010 10:41

In the opening OP it is clear as mud that the Ops DD got a B-F grade. This is a funny thread
(Op sounds 14 as well)

RustyBear · 04/07/2010 11:14

I think it only doesn't make sense because of the holding thing. If you look closely at the OP, you can see that the full stop after the first A is in bold, but the comma after the second A isn't. So presumably the post should have read

"under an A star. I read the paper (English Lit) and I am certain that is was an A star, as...."

Now that a star at each end will bold a whole phrase, instead of having to bold each word separately, you can't put more than one * in a sentence or paragraph (a return does stop it)

RustyBear · 04/07/2010 11:16

And my first sentence should read "the bolding thing", not holding - the iPad obviously doesn't recognise the word bolding.

Ponders · 04/07/2010 11:32

"Clearly when Tech made it possible to bold an entire phrase with a at each end he didn't think about education threads with A grades everywhere!"

when did this happen???

does it work for italics too???

hocuspontas · 04/07/2010 11:36

It's amazing!
Does it work for strike outs as well?
Perhaps that's next...

teamcullenIsaGleek · 04/07/2010 11:46

Can you imagine what it would be like if schools changed marks because parents asked them to?

Its bad enough that some parents think its ok to do their childrens coursework for them. Yes that does happen. DD has friends who openly admit that their parents practically do the work for them.

hocuspontas · 04/07/2010 11:50

I think coursework is being/has been replaced. Next week dd2 is doing the 'coursework' part of her History GSCE in the classroom. They know in advance what the subject matter will be, and then get given some reading materials in the 'exam' to use to formulate their own views/theories etc.

purepurple · 04/07/2010 12:01

I blame Gordon Brown

cornsilk5793 · 04/07/2010 12:06

I blame Madonna

TigerFeet · 04/07/2010 12:11

I didn't get any A*'s either.

They didn't exist when I took my GCSE's years ago.

Perhaps I ought to insist all my papers are remarked. I deserve at least one A*, surely.

BecauseImWorthIt · 04/07/2010 12:13

aThis I have to try!a

BecauseImWorthIt · 04/07/2010 12:14

Nope. What do I have to do?!

BecauseImWorthIt · 04/07/2010 12:15

I blame chavs on council estates and benefit scrounging immigrants and hoodies and dangerous dogs and women who work, personally...

BecauseImWorthIt · 04/07/2010 12:15

Yay!

pagwatch · 04/07/2010 12:20

I would love to reply OP but i only speak with the parents of children as successful as mine.

What is this B of which you speak?

If you are not first then you are last

Wow. I love this new sentence thingy. I can be strident at will!

SuSylvestersNiceSide · 04/07/2010 15:03

I was once phoned by a student's mother demanding an upgrade, as the dc's exam piece was, in her view, at least an A*...

Sidge · 04/07/2010 15:08

But will someone think of the children?

Longtalljosie · 04/07/2010 15:10

Ooh ooh ooh look what I can do!

SleepingLion · 04/07/2010 15:23

It's quite a dull funny thread.

What has happened to the standard of MN wind-ups?

Oh well, at least I can play with the new toys

to amuse myself

Longtalljosie · 04/07/2010 15:32

experimenting

hocuspontas · 04/07/2010 15:49

Hang on

I don't understand

Why isn't tigerfeet's post gone bold? She has asterisks, doesn't she?

hocuspontas · 04/07/2010 15:50

isn't = hasn't
