DD Didn't get all A*

Willmaa · 03/07/2010 17:08

My DD did her year 10 mocks and on one of the papers she got under an A. I read the paper (English Lit) and I am certain that is was an A, as she has such a good vocabularlrly but the school wont change it despite my calls

I feel this is unfair!!!!!!!!!!

I think I know what's going on here.

Either

A) Someone is very bored

or

B) Someone spent the afternoon at a boozy barbecue.

Willmaa · 03/07/2010 17:36

I havn't been drinking thank you very much!
I just care about my children and bring them up well, rather than waste my time on the internet!

Marking my place - just to see where this thread goes....

booyhoo · 03/07/2010 17:37

i vote A

Willmaa · 03/07/2010 17:37

Shouldn't you be looking after your children rather than critisize my daughter!?

OP posts:
booyhoo · 03/07/2010 17:37

you are on the internet now

maclover135 · 03/07/2010 17:38

If you're looking for an understanding answer Willmaa then:

quality of vocabulary use isn't in the criteria for assessing Lit (it will be in Lang though). What is generally being assessed in Lit is the ability to analyse and evaluate the text, offering alternative interpretations where appropriate and commenting in detail on how the text has been crafted for effect. I would therefore echo the post about asking your daughter to ask for feedback on what to do to improve to an A and beyond. This was only a mock and she has another year to make the improvements to achieve the grade that you want for her.

booyhoo · 03/07/2010 17:38

who is criticising your dd?

SandyBits · 03/07/2010 17:38

You don't waste your time on the internet? Then what os this???
And tbh, if you had brought her up properly she wouldn't have had such a crushing failure in her exams would she? Not all a*s? Imagine the shame of it.

Lulumaam · 03/07/2010 17:38

sadly, when i was doing my GCSEs , i do remember comments about my results from other students and even a couple of parents, one particular favourite from someone was, ' such a mix of results' at which my mother stalked off after a suitable derisory retort.

people do get all worked up about result, even the sodding KS2 sats!

if this is a wind up, it sails close to the truth , i also remember several parents insisting on remarks of papers so their DCs could get the 10 A* they ( the parents ) wanted

ILovePonyo · 03/07/2010 17:39

Haha nom, boozy bbq!

This thread is hilarious. I am hoping it is a joke though b'cos I feel sorry for the daughter.

How dare the school not change the grade!

booyhoo · 03/07/2010 17:40

this is really funny.

OP thank you for this.

DuelingFanjo · 03/07/2010 17:40

comedy threads aside, isn't it sad when a parent thinks an A isn't good enough.

That's an epic fail. If you are going to fail you need to do it in style like what I did. Got an A in English language (best you could get in my time) and a U in literature. Great thing is it doesn't turn up on your certificate so no one ever knows! Well......unless you tell them that is.

jetgirl · 04/07/2010 10:07

Willmaa - so she's year 10, which means another year until her actual exam , during which time your daughter will be expected to improve her grade. If she was awarded an Anow, the teacher would probably be concerned that your daughter might rest on her laurels, cruise for the next year and then not achieve even the A, which you clearly expect her to achieve. I presume you have the end of Key Stage targets (we give our student theirs when they commence year 10) and if it says A she should not be achieving that now. Ease up on the pressure, you will not help your daughter by pressurising her at this stage. She is clearly an intelligent, able girl, give her and the school a break.

RustyBear · 04/07/2010 10:13

Clearly when Tech made it possible to bold an entire phrase with a at each end he didn't think about education threads with A grades everywhere!

brimfull · 04/07/2010 10:14

lol at the posters taking this seriously

jetgirl · 04/07/2010 10:15

Crikey - it looks like I'm shouting - I'm not!

jetgirl · 04/07/2010 10:17

ggirl - there are parents like this, honestly, I've met them, so it's quite possible the OP is serious. It's sad but true.

hocuspontas · 04/07/2010 10:21

Oooh I didn't realise we could embolden WHOLE sentences now!!

RustyBear · 04/07/2010 10:28

Yes, but now you can't put more than one asterisk in any sentence (or possibly even one post, as a return may not break the phrase either now)

How are people going to boast about report all their DC's fantastic results in GCSEs & A Levels now?
