our thread, part two - all ready for the new term !! ds goes back on Tuesday...

OP posts:
MargaretMountford · 25/03/2009 11:48

No dates yet !! - think he was just quite pleased to be asked, don't think it would occur to him that he could actually 'go out' with her !
Ds seems to have boundless energy (eats quite a bit too) and not tired - he never sits still if he's not doing homework or reading. He does get to bed later than I'd like but it;'s tricky as we wait for dh to come home etc before supper together and then it's suddenly late...he has a bath and then about half an hour to unwind and then bed, where he does fall asleep pretty quickly. When he did go earlier he used to read or listen to cds for quite a while before sleeping.
I guess they're all just growing and using up energy quicker - the Easter hols should be a good time to recharge batteries as it's a decently long break.
Well done to magenta';s dd !
Am sorry about the ST bellavita - I can identify so much with the eye rolling - heaven forbid I ask ds if he's packed all his books and how huffy he is if I discover his pencil case or planner on the sofa !

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 25/03/2009 12:37

One thing that DD1 said yesterday that made me cross: I asked her how lessons had been and she said 'well Geography would have been interesting if X and his friends had shut up so we could hear the teacher.' They always cause chaos in this class apparently and the teacher doesn't deal with them.
Don't know if I should bring this up when we have the long awaited parent-teacher meeting some time next term.

magentadreamer · 25/03/2009 12:54

Bless him MM

LGP - if it's happening all the time and sanctions aren't being put in place then I would definetly think about reporting the incident. DD had a similar situation in Maths where a group of boys decided that their role in class was to make the teachers life difficult BUT sanctions were put in place and followed up. The half term movement in the sets means now the original group are not together now but prior to this I didn't feel the need to ring to ask about it as according to DD the teacher was well and truely on the ball, detentions, being made to see one of the assistant heads and phone calls home were mentioned by DD.

MargaretMountford · 25/03/2009 13:41

I would bring it up LGP

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 25/03/2009 15:26

Thanks guys. What DD told me was that this happens all the time in this class because the teacher doesn't impose any sanctions. In her words 'they wouldn't try it on with Miss Y because they would get yelled at and put in detention'.

bellavita · 25/03/2009 15:39

oh yes LGP, bring the matter up.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 25/03/2009 23:04

Ha ha. I have just embarrassed DD1 severely. We were out at an event this evening and a very nice young man came up to me introduced himself as one of her teachers. I knew who he was as she has talked a lot about how much fun his classes are so I was v friendly and enthusiastic.
DD1 nearly died. "MUM, how could you talk to him". I pointed out that he had approached me but that cut no ice with her at all.
I am now officially an embarrassing parent.

MargaretMountford · 26/03/2009 09:59

aren't we all though !!

MargaretMountford · 27/03/2009 15:31

uh oh, a 5 minute detention in break on Monday for forgetting his science homework...tsk

bellavita · 27/03/2009 16:03

I wonder if ds has managed to remember to ask his music teacher today about guitar lessons - he should have been asking him for the last 3 weeks or so but keeps forgetting...

Mind you, it will be up to ds to check on the rota when his lesson will be every week - tis done on a rolling week so that the same lesson for maths, english etc is not missed every time.

Will the 5 min detention be recorded in his planner MM?

bellavita · 27/03/2009 16:18

Blimey, he has remembered!

Brought the form home for us to complete.

He is actually very good playing the guitar but extra tuition alongside that of what he is getting should boost his confidence and it is only £40 per term which is a bonus!

MargaretMountford · 27/03/2009 18:15

well done bellavita's ds ! The same happens with ds's singing lessons - same day each week but different time and he has to make a note of this !
Detention was written in his planner, which is why I noticed (I always check it !!)

MargaretMountford · 30/03/2009 15:57

ds went to his detention but the teacher wasn't there, so he hunted around the school and no sign of him..tsk.

magentadreamer · 30/03/2009 18:37

Well I hope the teacher gets a detention for missing detention!!!

DD was mortified as they had her house assembly today and apparently she had to go up 4 times to get certificates and she won the merit slip draw this week! I suspect she won the merit slip thing as she finally deposited this terms slips in the box sometime last week due to her abhorrence of getting up in assembly. Anyhows she has a nice £5 voucher to spend in the easter hols which she's really looking forward to as she's shattered.

MargaretMountford · 30/03/2009 18:39

excellent magenta ! well done her

magentadreamer · 30/03/2009 19:00

The certificates were for attendence this term, something for the most points in a week - I did wonder if they had all been due to a terms worth of slips being deposited in the box at once and her form were all given certificates for the most points collected in a term by a form. I'm just hoping that she isn't snowed under with homework to do over Easter.

Simnelbellavita · 31/03/2009 12:14

That's very naughty of the teacher MM!

Well done magenta's dd

DH and DS2 are going to a night of Music, Dance, improvisionational comedy, fun fair stalls and two exciting multimedia performances by Yr7 music classes tonight. DS is doing (I think, from what we can gather) something to do with a graphics card thingamijigy..

Anyhoo, they are raising funds to support the Performing Arts and Languages tour to Paris in July (not sure if this is for Yr7's or for the older kids)

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 31/03/2009 12:26

Well done Magenta's DD
I bet she was really embarrassed at having to go up four times! The voucher sounds great though - I don't think DD's school does monetary rewards.
DD has had her report - it was really good. She has been averaging 88% in her Maths tests apparently. And she has been telling me for years that she is no good at Maths
Anyway, all her teachers had positive things to say about her and the only complaints were about the neatness of her work - quelle surprise!

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 31/03/2009 12:27

Sounds like your DS is getting really involved in activities Bellavita - the school newspaper thing sounds great.

MargaretMountford · 31/03/2009 12:40

good for dd LGP !! and bellavita's ds for throwing himself into school life - yay !

Simnelbellavita · 31/03/2009 12:50

It seems that way LGP - although I always thought he was the shy one out of both my boys - just shows how wrong you can be!

magentadreamer · 31/03/2009 17:11

Well done your DD LGP! The school news paper thing sounds fab Bellavitia hope the team won.

roisin · 31/03/2009 21:54

Well done Magenta's dd and dd LGP

I can't wait for the end of term - we are all exhausted. ds1's homework tends to ease off toward the end of term and he usually has a group project to work on instead.

He's still learning the skills of groupwork though - he often comes home with a huge list of things he's going to do, and is stumped when I ask him if anyone else in his group is actually doing anything!

So for Spanish this week he has written the script, is designing on the computer two menus for their cafe, a poster, and a programme for the fashion show, and he is taking in 'some Spanish food'. When pressed he said one of his friends had helped him write the script and the other two are going to dress up in their jeans for the fashion show

Simnelbellavita · 01/04/2009 00:14

The football team did not win the semi-final so DS will not be cameraman on Wednesday evening (am secretly pleased really because he is out on Monday with a guitar lesson, tonight he has done the improvisation thing and it did not finish till nearly 9.00pm having started at 6.00pm so he could do with a night off!)

But have come home to the news that someone has picked up his pe kit and gone awol with it!

DH said he was a bit upset over it - apparently he put it down somewhere whilst having his lunch and when he went back it had gone and this also meant that he had to cobble together bits of kit to wear for pe. Thing is they were doing a frisbee tournament outside and he said to me I will put the joggers in the indoor pe kit bag just so he had indoor and outdoor incase of the weather, so missing are a pair of trainers, shorts, top and joggers

DH has given him strict instructions to go the office tomorrow morning first thing. Everything is labelled but I don't suppose that means much! pah!!

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 01/04/2009 00:17

How annoying Bellavita. I hope it turns up, it is so expensive to replace.
