Must make sure DD has all her PE kit! I know she was wearing it today it was the school cross country. She was pleased to report on her return that she came 88th out of 150.
Don't laugh, for my DD that is an historic result and we are duly proud!
Hope the PE kit turns up, Bellavita.

magentadreamer · 03/04/2009 07:18

I remember cross country shudder

MargaretMountford · 03/04/2009 09:10

poor magenta's dd...hope knee is better soon..and expensive pe socks turn up - ds has some of those !(not lost yet but am waiting for him to bring pe kit home today)
Hope yours turns up bellavita !
Ds seemed to enjoy the concert - is hard to tell with him sometimes - but he was definitely under the weather...the whole thing was really good though and the Jambo song was fab - they did an Amy Winehouse medley too.

MargaretMountford · 03/04/2009 09:11

ds said this morning that nobody kisses their mums

bellavitalikesthesimnellife · 03/04/2009 09:23

What do you mean MM? that he thinks his friends don't kiss their mums as they are now too old and he doesn't want to either?

MargaretMountford · 03/04/2009 09:24

think that's what he meant...I never kiss him or anything in front of anyone but he is usually very cuddly and affectionate at home...

bellavitalikesthesimnellife · 03/04/2009 09:31

oh dear

DS is affectionate with me and his dad but his grandma has been left out quite a bit recently although he still ok with my dad. Unfortunately, my mum has taken it to heart a little that he runs shies away from her.

I never kiss ds in front of anyone either.

MargaretMountford · 03/04/2009 09:49

ds is always very affectionate with his grandparents - I think actually he is just not feeling right and being a bit prickly, I hope anyway !

OrmIrian · 03/04/2009 10:17

Nope magenta, he didn't I am hoping he might find time today. But I guess it's a busy time - end of term and all that.

Dh thinks I am making a fuss about nothing. Reckons 'target' just means basic requirement rather than 'what you should be striving for'.

DH is currently in his interview for a teaching post so if the phone does ring I don't know whether I want it to be DH with some news, or the tutor

christywhisty · 03/04/2009 14:28

Orm
On Ds's report it clearly states target should be what they are aiming for, on the higher side but achievable. Ds got a 5a for science at KS2 and his target at end of KS3 is 7a

OrmIrian · 03/04/2009 14:32

Thanks christy.

I am a bit concerned but I think maybe it's just the way they do things I do want to talk to the tutor but he's not being forthcoming atm. Maybe next term

magentadreamer · 03/04/2009 18:17

Unfortunately poor DD might have done some serious damage to her knee according to our GP. She's got to rest it, take regular brufen and go back in two weeks to see how it is once the swelling goes down. GP wasn't too sure if it was just a sprain or ligament damage! Dd is miffed as obviously no riding for her and she'll also miss the pony club day! Thankfully she's not in alot of pain and even laughed with me and her dad saying we were a family of cronks as we are all now taking brufen for bad backs and knees.

DD is a very cuddly child but runs a mile is anyone trys to kiss her - it's a standing joke with my Mum.

bellavitalikesthesimnellife · 03/04/2009 19:07

Oh no magenta - let's hope it isn't as serious as it sounds.

All have a fab Easter ladies and see you after the break

MargaretMountford · 03/04/2009 19:09

magenta -really hope it doesn't turn out to be serious.
Ds cheery again - had a really good swimming lesson where he swam almost a length underwater picking up things from the pool floor and he tells me that he's been given a boys phone number to ring so they can hang out in town - hooray - perhaps the friendship thing is sorting itself out

roisin · 03/04/2009 20:23

Phew! I'm so relieved it's the end of term.
ds1 is still loving his school and came home bouncing today, though exhausted too.

He'd taken olives in and chorizo today for a Spanish presentation

Sorry to hear about your dd MM. Knees can be so tricky, can't they? I hope it sorts itself out/gets sorted out thoroughly and quickly.

magentadreamer · 04/04/2009 08:54

Thank you Ladies, it is worrying but I'm hoping it's just a one off.

MM glad your DS's concert went well

DD bought herself a game for her DS to help brush up on her German last weekend and is now spending 15 mins a night playing it and she wants another one that for Spanish so I'm hoping they'll have a second hand copy in one of the independent games shops in town or if not she can use the voucher she won at achool towards one.

I can't believe that another term has passed and only one more term and they'll all have survived Yr7! MM I do hope you'll do the honours in a couple of weeks and start the Yr7 Summer term.

MargaretMountford · 04/04/2009 09:55

will do ! happy Easter everyone

magentadreamer · 06/04/2009 12:17

Please may I have a small proud mum moment?

DD in her words doesn't "get" languages and struggles with them. Homework isn't helped by the fact I never did the two languages she's doing so I'm no use when it comes to what the German for... I have always told her to try her best and put effort into work in class etc. Today I recieved a postcard from her MFL teacher saying how she'd been recognised as putting in continuous effort in class, homework and assessments. I'm really proud of this fact as the DD of old would have just switched off and decided she couldn't do it.

bellavitalikesthesimnellife · 06/04/2009 12:34

I would say more than a "small" proud mum moment - wow what an achievement. Well done to your dd

OrmIrian · 06/04/2009 13:13

How lovely magenta!

Those moments make all the difference.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 06/04/2009 15:33

Well done to Magenta's DD
How lovely to have her hard work acknowledged.

roisin · 06/04/2009 16:08

That's great: well done her!

roisin · 06/04/2009 16:25

Do your dc get guidelines on length of essays they have to write?
In English ds1 has been studying Michael Morpurgo's Private Peaceful for quite some time - most of this term I think. Holiday homework is an essay on PP. They did quite a bit of the planning work and starting drafting in class during the final week of term.

He's written loads already - 2 sides of A4 typed, 12 pt, small margins - but says he's only half way through.

It's good quality writing, but I'm not sure whether I should be encouraging him to cut it down or not?

bellavitalikesthesimnellife · 06/04/2009 16:35

I don't think I have ever seen ds do an essay apart from the fact that writing loads to him would be a paragraph

magentadreamer · 06/04/2009 17:12

Thanks

DD has on occasions been given guidelines that have included total word count expected eg for Maths essay on famous mathetician which was 800 words( I think) and one of her history homeworks suggested they wrote at least 2 sides of A4. DD if she enjoys something will type and type till she's finished two science projects ended up with 1000 and 800 respectively but didn't have any word count guidelines. If he's writing good stuff and not padding it out or repeating himself and enjoy doing it then I'd let him carry on.
