Sorry can you explain this a bit more as English Language is the one that could scupper DS's plans. So there will be a grade next to English Language but no grade next to spoken language? Donee need the spoken language grade? Because that is probably the bit DS scored worst on.

@Drivingselfmad DD enjoyed Eng Lit GCSE but is put off Alevel because she says she has to 'learn 64 poems'. Is that true?
She'll see what grades she gets before she makes any final decisons though...

@postitnotDD is planning on doing Eng Lit, obviously it depends on board and components but she will be doing Edexcel and it’s definitely not 64 poems as far as we can see! Get her to check the spec if it’s only that that’s putting her off. DD absolutely loves the subject, she’s a huge reader especially the classics so she’s looking forward to it!

Spoken lang will be pass, merit or distinction. It's an endorsement not a qualification - it doesn't count for anything in the qualification. They just have to do it. He doesn't need it.

So he might get 9 D. But you won't have the mark that goes with that 9 because the MIS can't cope with putting it on the results slip.

I'd love to see the A level spec with 64 poems at A level so I can avoid ever having to teach it!

My lit students will be examined on one (very long one) and will study a collection for their NEA. Definitely not 64...

@MrsHamlet dd adores English lit and this is by far her first choice alevel. However she knows no one else at her school who’s signed up for it though I’m sure there are others. This is a small ish Indy, about 90 in the year group. How popular does it tend to be?

I teach OCR. I had 22 this year. There are about the same in current y12 and I think er have 28 on the list for September y12.

It's a great spec.

Definitely no maths Alevels here - will just be happy if she gets a 4.

DD is planning to do a UAL extended diploma in Art and Design so a bit different from most on here. Can’t wait to get the results over - she’s getting very nervous now and so am I!

Thank you for the congrats everyone. After I posted I did worry that it’s not good etiquette to post grades, I was just a bit shocked at the result and didn’t think before I posted.

It is good to have a subject under the belt before Thursday, particularly the one we were most worried about. She needed a 7 in Eng Lang in order to do economics A level and she got a 6 in her mock so today was nerve wracking.

DS is a STEM boy - planning on maths, further maths, physics and chemistry A levels, with a view to taking some kind of science degree. He gets all this from his father....back in the day I did English, French and history and loathed all maths and science with a passion!

Well done to dd @Beachforever really good to get a positive result early! DS has a 9 in Latin already under his belt (taken in Y10) which has definitely given him confidence.

Yes because they need to pull together all the results for all subject for all students.

Teaching staff don't know until Thursday because it's embargoed until then.

No I don’t know any A Level spec with 64 poems! I teach AQA and they study 5 altogether, plus a collection of their choice for coursework. It’s a fabulous subject

@makemineadecaf my DD was in a sixth form of about 120 YP and there were more than 30 doing Eng lit, in two classes, so I am sure there will be more than just your DD.

I've been on various previous threads with older DS and honestly I don't think there is any particular 'etiquette' - it's just what individual posters feel comfortable posting. For some, that will be grade specific; others may feel happier just doing a generic 'DC got what they need' type post. I think as long as posters are sensitive to others it really doesn't matter.

I am keeping everything crossed for all our lovely DC - they've all worked so hard and deserve the best positive outcomes on Thursday.

Nothing wrong wrth posting grades we have a real mix on here of high achievers and some kids who will be even happier to never do Maths or English again.

2 years ago my DS was one who failed a gcse and just scraped a pass in English but I still enjoyed reading the great results other kids had .
Fingers crossed for a great year in passes for English and Maths.

Another one who will be very happy for a grade 4 for Maths! (My older dc is off to university to study it).

Our school didn't release iGCSE results today 🤷‍♀️ apparently all results will be given on Thursday, including iGCSEs. Probably for the best as we're on holiday and the Maths grade would have probably ruined it 😬

Well done your DD, @Beachforever and to yours @Onthesofawithmydog. I'd love DS to go to Bath so I could swan around pretending to be a Jane Austen heroine on visits.

My "travel with hand luggage only" plan to get through the airport quickly has hit a setback. On the outbound flight they made me check in my hand luggage because it exceeded the 7kg limit. 7kg?! What airline has that policy?! I've been jettisoning pants, toiletries, gifts and the spare laptop IT sent with me in a frantic attempt to make the weight limit on the way back. I've also moved my seat selection to the very first row so I don't get stuck behind everyone else getting off the plane.

DS is blissfully unaware of all of this angst and is concentrating on this season's fantasy football team. Apparently he came 2898th or something last year and wants to be in the top 2000 this season.

Hope everyones DC manage a non anxious day today.
26 hrs and I should know DDs results this week has gone by so fast.

I’m personally fine about people posting specific grades. Many of us have been here since the year 10 group and I’d love to hear how they’ve all done. Every single one of our kids has worked really hard and deserves to do well!

I’ve woken up really early for some reason but guess it’s practice for an early start TOMORROW. Dd is out with a friend this afternoon then I’ve said we’ll watch a film tonight with allllll the snacks.
