Just reported in the local paper that the Headmaster has left suddenly before the start of term? Statement from the school didn’t offer any thanks etc does anyone know what’s happened? They have appointed an interim head while recruitment for a permanent replacement is underway.

Ok so the very detailed suggestion on Reddit are not illegal but would most certainly be enough to make him leave if true. Matt Hancock was not erased from public record when he left under scandal so not sure why any meaning is being made of the school announcement including his name. It's just factual isn't it?

I do have some skin in the game as live within an hour's drive and was considering it.

Totally agree with the previous poster who said the rivalry between the two schools is mainly between the parents! The kids in both schools all socialise together and often switch between schools for 6th form with no problem.
The School will tick over just fine without the Doodes show and so far any children I have spoken to who attend the school are non plussed he has gone.
One thing I found quite strange is how the wife of the headmaster has an open social media profile where she calls herself ‘the head’s wife’. Does she not have her own persona? Was her entire identity that of her husband? Considering she is a ‘educational marketing specialist’ you would have thought she would have realised the archaic implications of such a name for her open profile!

Yes, and her whole identity being about her husband’s job must be in crisis now that he is no longer a Head, and if Reddit is to be believed, possibly no longer her husband due to his actions? I feel sorry for her. I doubt any of this would affect the pupils at the school though, apart from provide gossip for the parents to talk about.

I have a child at the school. What did he do - is this a safeguarding issue?

Porridgetime · 08/09/2024 11:09

I have no idea really - just what I read on Reddit which is clearly not reliable! But it’s nothing to do with the pupils.

If what is on Reddit is true and the governors ignored parents' concerns then it should be a yellow flag at least for their judgement!

Yes I agree, we have looked at a few schools and favour RGS at the moment but the VAT statement from Kings is making me wonder whether we should take a closer look. Just a bit unsettling with the head leaving so suddenly. Maybe we should stick with RGS.

I looked at both while moving my child from a state school mid year . I felt Kings more pushy academically with emphasis on getting them into a Russell Group Uni or at least thats what was said to me on my tour . I think it depends on you child - . I know parents with children at both. I chose RGS as it just felt right for my child .

DestinyDover · 25/09/2024 09:35

Given that he calls himself a Christian he showed little Christian values towards his colleagues when he was headmaster here! Sorry to see history repeat itself yet again at Worcester.

TwinklyMoose · 28/09/2024 23:47

New head is brilliant. Bye doodes!

It’s all been quite ridiculous and very stressful! I actually don’t think kings can recover from this for some years. Not properly. Their reputation and numbers are down. There’s no way their fee structure is sustainable on that basis and I fully expect a full vat increase by September 25.
so many red flags were ignored by kings and the board. Teachers were told to shut up and keep quiet. Parents complained to the board and were repeatedly told that the head had their full support. Frankly, I’m glad he’s gone. But even though he has left, there’s too much ground to make up. I’m not sure how people can say the head isnt anything to do with the school. I think it’s everything to do with it. The board are truly in charge and they’ve ignored it. The culture is flawed. We moved to RGS because of it and have found it a far superior, friendly set up with a much better pastoral ethos and an excellent head/leadership team.

Interesting view on fee increases. It could be argued that Kings are in a stronger financial position having not played the scholarship game as fiercely as some schools and are therefore able to ride things out. Two big hikes and no wage increase for teachers at RGS may indicate things are a little tighter. Kings is also continuing to invest, the new sports provision a case it point.

Emmanuelll · 29/09/2024 12:55

Kings gives out several 100% bursaries in the senior school....

Notenoughhoursinaday24 · 29/09/2024 14:08

Yes, but they are supported by the fund raising and charitable donations not financed through fee income. Kings started doing this when the assisted place scheme was taken away.

Emmanuelll · 29/09/2024 15:00

Kings has always had significant donations from beneficiaries. Whereas RGS has incomings which match outgoings iirc.

5475878237NC · 29/09/2024 17:12

Do you think they're equal on pastoral care? How much do governors know about what goes on?

Notenoughhoursinaday24 · 29/09/2024 21:42

I can’t comment on RGS but have found Kings to have had outstanding pastoral care, both of my children have benefited at times. There are a number of parent governors who are really connected to the school so have a feel and there has been a very positive vibe from staff and most importantly the children in the last few weeks.

He was caught having an affair with a fellow male member of staff. Not the first time and won’t be the last.

DrWoo · 13/10/2024 12:28

What evidence do you have for this? Because otherwise it’s just libellous.

Porridgetime · 13/10/2024 13:51

@DrWoo what’s he going to do? Sue an anonymous mumsnet poster?!

Angrymum22 · 13/10/2024 14:06

It is only libellous if it isn’t true.

Porridgetime · 13/10/2024 14:15

Good luck with that @DrWoo !

DrWoo · 13/10/2024 16:10

If you’re sure it’s true, post your own names

5475878237NC · 13/10/2024 18:34

Come off it. No one is going to do that it's an open forum. Truth or not people can be targeted by others who don't want X or Y publicly known or implied. It's 2024 and we can't even agree what a woman is any more. Plenty of women telling the truth about that every day being targeted.

You know what? I suspect Doodes just happened to piss off the Blob by holding them to account and in return they’ve got him sacked, spread a vicious rumour about him, and now dim parents are parroting it like gospel. Prove me wrong.

Emmanuelll · 14/10/2024 21:42

@DrWoo this has happened in multiple schools though. The common denominator is him.
