Hello
wanted to get a thread going for entrance in secondary school for 10+ in Sep 2025. Key questions to know more about include : preparation, mock tests and reading habits, past successful preparation etc.… happy to include other topics. Target schools - Whitgift, Trinity, City Of London and Emanuel.

i suspect Trinity will make more full fee offers this year and with Labours NIC-employer and the business rates rise and the 20% VAT, expect to pay 20-25% more in 2025. Sister school Old palace had rug pulled because of financial mismanagement.

Will it change anything considering against 48 seats in year 6 there are 156 applicants, only marginally less than 170 odd that apply every year?

How did you come to the figure of 156 applicants? What about the candidates that will sit the 10+ entrance exam at a later date due to illness etc.?

This was the number shared by the Director Admissions on the test day during my chat with him.

I havent heard anything yet. Any experiences to share from City of London School 10 plus exam yesterday?

We didn’t apply for City of London. Just Trinity and Whitgift schools.
Whitgift 10+ exams are next Saturday.
How is the prep coming along?

Writing the tests is helping with the prep for DS. Next is Whitgift, so will keep fingers crossed. Sure there are nerves for what will emerge on the 4th or before for Trinity.

Any news yet? nurvous killing me :(

BigLittleRedOne · 03/12/2024 10:22

No news for us yet! It's a horrible wait!

BigLittleRedOne · 03/12/2024 10:41

Just heard. We weren't successful in getting to interview stage. Feeling very sad for my son.

MontaguMum · 03/12/2024 11:26

We didn't get invited to interview either. Also feel sad for my son as he has worked so hard and he was excited at the prospect of moving schools. I feel like it will be the same for Whitgift as the familiarisation examples they sent seemed harder than anything from Trinity.

5pppYg · 03/12/2024 12:12

Sorry to hear that @BigLittleRedOne @MontaguMum - would you try again next year for 11+? Hope they won’t be too put off…

We need to think about it. He put a lot of work into the application and the prep and might feel disheartened. I've asked the school for feedback on his scores so hopefully can work out what the issue was. @5pppYg did your son apply for Trinity too?

FreeButtonBee · 03/12/2024 12:34

We had a positive result - called for interview in Jan

from my older son’s experience boys who were not successful at 10+ did get offers at 11+ so if you like the school it can be worth giving it another try

5pppYg · 03/12/2024 12:35

Yes feedback would be helpful. No didn’t think he was ready yet but equally nervous for 11+ next year too!

Congratulations, all the best for the interview!

Useful info re: applying again. We all really liked the school. But wary of him feeling deflated two years running. Will see if we get some feedback and mull on it!

From Jan 2025, Trinity absorb some of the cost and apply a discount to the school fee base. When VAT is applied to the fee, it works out 10% increase.

Then there will be around 6% more for students start in Sep 2025. Hope this helps.

No, we didn't get anything yet back yet.

Parent2024 · 07/12/2024 20:19

How did the Whitgift test go today ?

11PlusKnuckles · 07/12/2024 21:12

Ds said it was easier than Trinity. He wasn’t expecting a picture prompt in creative writing though. How about your ds?

Parent2024 · 07/12/2024 21:38

DS sounded ok about the test and feeling a bit relaxed that the exams are done now.

my Son sat T and W. Felt good about T and subsequently got an interview. Felt W was harder.

Have heard of 2 boys have already been interviewed last week, but knowing one of them it’s definitely for an academic scholarship. So guess they’ve interviewed the academic scholarship candidates already. Other boy was interviewed the same week.

good luck to all the boys ❤️

Quite opposite here, DS sat both T and W and said that W was easier. ><

He managed to get to the interview stage at T in Jan while his friend already had an interview the same week as the result came out. I think it is for an academic scholarship too.

Good luck for your son ... and everyone who waiting for the result here.

Good morning,

Does anyone know when we would be notified of being successfully through to the interview stage for Whitgift 10 plus? It does state in the email sent, that unsuccessful candidates will be notified in early Jan. I am not expecting us to be successful, it’s just worded so that it’s not clear for successful candidates on the email. Would it mean that all families will know either way at the same time? TIA
