Physics tomorrow @ComingInByAnsible ? Please tell me you are not in England!

ComingInByAnsible · 04/06/2024 16:18

Yep, England @JustHereWithMyPopcorn, Cambridge board and last physics paper (thankfully!)

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn
mine doesn't have physics until the 14th, not sure what exam board.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 04/06/2024 16:20

Yes I has Elizabeth was good but American West was awful! Cattle farming and traintracks?!

boredwithfoodprob · 04/06/2024 16:21

Edexcel History today was hard, the first exam that my DS has had which he's been negative about. He said the Elizabethan Section was good but Cold War was hard either way some random questions 🫣

gingercat02 · 04/06/2024 16:36

AQA history (Normans and Power and the people) was OK, was quite pleased with Norman's (Earls and Wales) not so much with P&P (government and protest)
Spanish meh!

GlomOfNit · 04/06/2024 16:45

Phew! DS is really happy with his AQA History paper and said it was 'brilliant'! Grin He said that, by sheer chance, the questions they got highlighted parts of the modules taught by his strongest teacher (who then jumped ship at the end of year 10 Sad) and he always says what that teacher covered, was covered extremely well. He tackled the longest/highest mark questions first which seems a good idea, because he did say he was left with about half the time he needed for his last 8 marker. He did Normans and History of Medicine. So pleased it went well, as it's one of the subjects that really lights him up.

I've patted him on his cocky little head and sent him up to max out on Geography, as he claims he wants to watch the live election debate tonight. Hmm

Curlyshabtree · 04/06/2024 16:49

Dts had Spanish foundation today (AQA) and said it was “easy” and thought History (Norman’s and Medicine) was OK too. DTD did Higher Spanish (AQA) and said it was OK but in the listening she thought they were speaking very fast!!

BlackBean2023 · 04/06/2024 16:53

DD reports that History went well.

Now onto Business Studies Paper 2 which is tomorrow PM, English Language Thursday AM (there's been no revision for this- is that normal!?) and Biology on Friday... Grin

BestsellingWine · 04/06/2024 17:01

No English Language revision here either. Always get told you can’t revise for it - by ds of course

Waspie · 04/06/2024 17:03

DramaLlamaBangBang · 04/06/2024 16:12

He needs a 7 as wants to take it at A level...Fingers crossed!
This is also ridiculous entry requirement inflation. I did A Level history and didn't even do it at GCSE! I got a B. From the open days the A Level history didn't look that much harder than when I did it that kids wouldn't achieve it unless they got an A!

DS needs a 6 in English Language or History (if taken) for A level History. But he needs average of 7 across the board to meet his conditional offer overall, so is aiming for 7 in each.

Good to read that most of our History students found paper 2 to be good! DS did too. He said that he finished the medicine paper (1 hr 15mins) for the first time ever and could re-read. He's now worried that he didn't write enough! He was very happy with it though so I don't think he's going to fret.

USA (1945 - 1970) he said was good but some strangely worded questions which threw him a little but he's happy that he answered the questions according to the required structure and with enough content.

He's looked at the dreaded Tik Tok review of yesterday's maths paper (Edexcel Higher) and thinks he did well - approx. 70 out of 80. Hopefully pulling back from the 50 ish out of 80 he thinks he got for paper 1.

He's not a geographer so will study at home tomorrow for English Language and then Biology.

Physics tomorrow seems to be an iGCSE (according to the Cambridge board timetable).

Mine says that too 🤣🤔

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 04/06/2024 17:09

@ComingInByAnsible different board, phew! 😂@CactusPeach yes, same here.

@Curlyshabtree DS didn't like the listening either, said it was hard.

Lalux · 04/06/2024 17:23

DS said History went well too which is a relief as he was on a real downer this morning after going through some of the answers to yesterday's maths and realising he has probably lost more marks than initially thought.
Like others I wish the questions and answers weren't all over SM.

Onwards to Geography tomorrow which is his favourite and a definite for A Level so really hoping that one goes well too.

Same here but the other way around - he’s quite flat this evening bless him

BlackBean2023 · 04/06/2024 17:34

Edexcel @Panic71 - Elizabethan England and Cold War topics.

BlackBean2023 · 04/06/2024 17:35

Don't forget- just because they think went well/badly it's not to say they are right!

We try not to talk about the exam too much after it's finished- what's done is done Grin

Very good point.

DC was very keen to talk me through one of their history answers when they got home, though. They have a day off tomorrow.

Lalux · 04/06/2024 17:43

@Panic71 AQA

ComingInByAnsible · 04/06/2024 17:46

Sorry for panicking you @JustHereWithMyPopcorn! 😁

MamOfTwo · 04/06/2024 17:47

Eduqas History paper 2 was hard but DD finished it and kept a cool head (unlike paper 1 in which she had a panic attack). Apparently when they told the teacher the questions on the paper, she looked horrified - eek! Day off tomorrow, phew

LighthouseCat · 04/06/2024 17:52

Edexel history here too. DD pretty happy with what she wrote but did think it was not an easy paper.

wonderstuff · 04/06/2024 17:53

DD was really down about Spanish, she felt it was much harder than anything they had done in mocks (AQA Higher) I said that might mean lower grade boundaries, but she says it's so disheartening to be prepared for one thing and get something harder, which I get. It's an A-level option for her and her favourite subject, she should still be fine to take it, but I guess it's always going to be disappointing if you perform less well than during the mocks.
