DD currently learning her "script" for Eng Lang tomorrow.

I'm in awe of her memory....I wonder how my menopausal self would fare sitting GCSEs?!!

Gazelda · 22/05/2024 18:43

DD said AQA higher physics wasn't too bad.

The kids at her school are now all winding each other up saying that because the Paper 1s have been OK for most subjects, the Paper 2s are bound to be hideous 🙄

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 22/05/2024 18:28

DD also Eduqas for Eng Lit and not home for me to discretely ask what the exact wording of the Mr Birling question was Confused

Need to stop spiralling as convinced myself she read hers wrong!

The eduquas one specifically said mr ARTHUR birling.

Lalux · 22/05/2024 18:47

@Tiredalwaystired was that the one about UV light? DS teacher said that was an odd one for a GCSE question.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 22/05/2024 18:58

@Tiredalwaystired thanks 😊

AQA physics higher - more maths than ds expected and him and his friends have all put different answers 🤦‍♀️.

Yes! Same here. My son said thank goodness for the calculator 🤪

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 22/05/2024 18:58

@Lalux DS had that question, it was one of the ones that annoyed him, said he didn’t have a clue but tried to write something and see if he could gain a mark or two.

Panic71 · 22/05/2024 19:02

Tebheag · 22/05/2024 17:10

DS said( think AQA) higher physics had lots of conversation questions most he had ever seen on a paper. Just hoping he checked working as has a habit of silly mistakes or not writing numbers clearly. Just Eng lang tomorrow and break really needs it as slept in this morning so not like him x

DS said the gold button calculator actually saved him with the conversations!

Is she memorising a pre planned story?

DramaLlamaBangBang · 22/05/2024 19:13

DS is saying you can't revise for creative writing. Does that sound right? He's watching a video on it.

DS thought the same. We shall see in August.

Yes my DS says the same.
But I'd say they can do a bit - revise sentence starters for Q1-4, Memorise a good generic paragraph that will work for creative writing, maybe do a practice paper but there's NO WAY my son will do that!

Countrylife2002 · 22/05/2024 19:20

DD has never revised for it to be fair!

Lol just mentioned the gold button to my son and he responded how glad he was off his too.

Oh yes sentence starters is a good one. I told him to remember the ' 5 senses' as in describe what you see, hear, smell, taste and feel in the story. That seems to be it.

boredwithfoodprob · 22/05/2024 20:31

Oh yes that's a good one - lots of descriptions of the senses

PaperTyger · 22/05/2024 20:44

Dd also said lots of maths but it was OK maths.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 22/05/2024 21:10

Ds had Cymraeg (Welsh language) this morning and PE this afternoon, he’s gone to Explorers tonight for a change of scene.

Tomorrow is English language and Friday is Physics.

we’re in a minority it seems using WJEC

Panic71 · 22/05/2024 19:03

Dd is Edexcel igcse. She has written a story, which she can adapt. I don’t understand how this works. One of her friends said she will make it up on the spot. Perhaps it depends on how your brain works? Dd isn’t into fiction.

GlomOfNit · 22/05/2024 21:21

Waspie · 22/05/2024 16:24

Mine also said this - lots of conversion of insane numbers apparently. He is good at maths but it's not his strongest. He would have taken Physics for A level except that all of the sixth forms applied to require you to take maths and physics. Nobody seems to know why as the maths in A level physics isn't particularly demanding. He says this Physics paper was good for him.

Mandarin writing went well - which is good as this was a worry. Mandarin is the second subject totally done with now. Psychology will join it by COB tomorrow.

DS' tennis match is cancelled as it's raining so he's taking a break now and then English Language and Psychology revision this evening.

Waspie same here - DS was happy with his Physics paper. I had the wrong end of the stick - he was chuntering on about electricity last night/at breakfast and I assumed it was something he was hoping would come up - nope, he hates that topic and LOVES radiation Grin (plus had managed to leave his revision notes at home this morning). And he said the Mandarin paper was 'just beautiful' and he was really happy about it.

He has, however, since had a wobbly about the mock election one of his teachers mentioned to him at lunchtime, asking him if he'd be involved with it once he was in 6th form. (This was assuming an autumn GE.) Since then, of course, Rishi has SCUPPERED his fun by calling it for July so DS is well pissed off! Grin Sad

He's upstairs, I think brushing up on his Psych, but DH has already walked him through it (it's his day job...) and DS claims nobody actually revises for English Language. (to be fair, he does do creative writing in his own time.) I want to sit through a Mr Salles video with him.

WarningOfGails · 22/05/2024 21:44

My DD also claiming you can’t revise for Eng Lang. She got a 9 in the mocks so I think she’s pretty confident she’s sitting pretty on this one, but her boyfriend is a borderline fail on Eng Lang so I wish she wasn’t telling him there’s no point revising as there are certainly things that can be learnt!

StarShipControl · 22/05/2024 21:54

My dn was rubbish at english Lang. They learned a few different weather descriptions, nature descriptions and various other things and shoehorned them into their creative writing and got a decent enough grade. So certainly you can do things to help push up your grade.

TrixieFatell · 22/05/2024 22:27

My daughter is revising for eng Lang. She got a 9 in her last mock so she's really hoping for the same. She's just writing a plan for her writing and watching you tube videos about creative writing.

She's in such a better mood now physics is out the way.

JaninaDuszejko · 22/05/2024 22:36

DD has got PMT (period due in half term thankfully) and was all weepy this evening when I got home from work. Her Physics went OK but she's feeling emotional about leavers day on Friday and Prom and Sixth form and all the change over the summer. One of her best friends is going to the Art College and DD is worried about seeing her less. She only lives about 10mins walk away so I'm sure they'll be fine, she has a lovely group of friends.
