New thread for when the other one fills up, I need somewhere to panic away from my son 😁

Results by email here. I do think that takes the pressure off somewhat.

Nowanextraone · 09/05/2024 13:50

DD said RE (OCR) this morning was hard, really obscure questions! That was her first exam so she's a bit put out!

Those of you with more than one child, can I just say I feel for you. Once is enough for this !

I have a son in year 10 so I get to do it next year too 😂😭

School have said the students are to go in between 9.30 and 10.30 on results day. It’s walking distance from home, so no excuse to accompany her! I think we will just wait for the phone call. It will be my birthday, so cake will be available at home whatever happens 🎂

(I also got my O-Level results on my 16th birthday - the postman came early and my Mum hid the envelope in amongst my pile of birthday cards!).

That's lovely Smile

I hope DS gets to go in quite early for his results as he has to submit them to the new school really early - either 10am or 10.30am (can't remember what they said at the open day). I'm using this as an excuse to go with him (I have already booked the day as annual leave) selling it as "You can go off with your friends and I'll sort the boring old 6th form admin"!

Edited to add that I won't be going in with DS - I'll wait in the car. I'm not that much of a helicopter parent!

Waspie · 09/05/2024 15:00

Is anyone getting the teachers presents? I was speaking to a friend last night and she was telling me about the presents she was buying for her daughter's teachers. I had it in mind to buy vouchers for the teachers who have helped DS most. I realise that's boring but I have no idea what they would like.

WoodBurningStov · 09/05/2024 15:06

Free food at Nando's n results day too.

My dd had her first two exams today, she was in bits this morning, not helped by a falling out with her friends yesterday either. But she said she thinks she's down ok. 2 down 20 to go Confused

LighthouseCat · 09/05/2024 15:39

First exam done and it didn't go well 😬 I'm sure she's done better than she thinks she has. I just so wanted the first one to go ok. Biology tomorrow and that's her least favourite science. Hope it's gone ok for others today.

JessyCarr · 09/05/2024 16:15

What was your DD doing today, @LighthouseCat ? Sorry to hear it was tough.

Just had a call from mine who is relatively happy (AQA Drama) though timing was “tight” and she thinks she should have managed it better from an exam technique point of view.

Onward to Biology (also least favourite science here).

JessyCarr · 09/05/2024 16:20

Incidentally, younger DS was watching Eastenders while DD revised Drama last night and rushed in to announce “Will in Eastenders is revising for tomorrow’s Drama GCSE too!” Good research from the script team 👏

WoodBurningStov · 09/05/2024 16:31

Another one for biology tomorrow too

LighthouseCat · 09/05/2024 16:51

Thanks @JessyCarr , it was edexel drama. She's had a bit of a cry but seems to be bouncing back quite quickly. I don't think it was a total disaster, she just didn't finish and was thrown by a 9-marker.

AmyandPhilipfan · 09/05/2024 16:59

I might possibly give the school a donation next year when my younger boy leaves Year 11. Not sure yet though, we're feeling the pinch a bit at the moment so might well not give anything!

Yes we’ve had upset this afternoon with how hard the exam was. I just hope paper 2 will be better next week!

Countrylife2002 · 09/05/2024 17:14

DD’s RE was AQA, thankfully by the sound of it

DippyDoo98 · 09/05/2024 17:15

Yep we had AQA RE and daughter is happy enough! Phew

Booksandflowers · 09/05/2024 17:22

Actually I think ours was aqa too. Uh oh!

RunningAndSinging · 09/05/2024 17:26

DD was happy with her drama questions and wrote until the last 30 seconds so that sounds good. No time to check her work I guess but you can’t have everything. Good luck to everyone with biology tomorrow.

Popfan · 09/05/2024 17:31

Joining in with this thread!
Biology here tomorrow too. DS currently at a 3 hour biology revision session (including a pizza!). The teachers are great to stay and do this for the students. This session is probably the only revision he has done for biology mind you, outside of lessons.... He tells me he does some 'on an app on his phone' but I'm fairly sure it's not the highest quality! Ah well.....

AmyandPhilipfan · 09/05/2024 17:37

My son had RE (RS?) today. He thinks it went ok. He said there was a question on abortion he left as he wasn't sure what the question was asking.

He's got biology tomorrow. He's having his tea so I've just told him that after tea I'm going to do some biology revision with him. He objected and said he's already done some this afternoon but I said that's great, the more the better! He's barely done any revision all year and (after initially trying to insist on it) I've let it go as he does find school hard and is unlikely to do brilliantly however much he revises but I am going to try and insist on some English, maths and science on the days leading up to those exams!

Countrylife2002 · 09/05/2024 17:48

Top tip. DD just had (another) stress meltdown. I suggested she make some cupcakes. Result = cakes for me and a much happier child.

Philandbill · 09/05/2024 18:38

RE today was ok apparently. Biology and two German exams tomorrow.

Nowanextraone · 09/05/2024 18:40

Another biology tomorrow too (AQA)

She said Drama (OCR) was great. A 'beautiful paper' (her words lol)

Same here.

Curlyshabtree · 09/05/2024 19:54

Good luck all. I am laying on a small buffet style breakfast for my dts on each exam day. It’s not much but I hope it’ll set them up for the day.
Both are very focused and are eager to get going!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 09/05/2024 21:09

We kick off with WJEC Biology tomorrow.

Ds is still getting his chromosomes mixed up 🤦🏻‍♀️
