@MrsHamlet in English lit the other day DS realised after the exam that he didn't link to the source material at all in one of his essays. Just wondering how badly it will effect his mark on that paper?

MrsHamlet · 16/05/2024 23:09

I can't specifically on the marking but my advise is to to use the source material.

Another big day for many of our students tomorrow. Hope they all get a restful night’s sleep.

DD’s last comment tonight was that the tough Maths paper had spurred her on to do loads more Maths revision over half-term, to make up for it on papers 2 and 3. So sweet - it made me want to tuck her in and give her a big kiss like when she was tiny! I am sure the teenage eye-rolls will be back before too long.

bluefineliner · 17/05/2024 06:47

Morning everyone,

Aww @JessyCarr good for your DD, mine is now saying the same thing, just hope papers 2 and 3 aren't quite as bad!

So its beans on toast for breakfast now, accompanied by Free Science Guy and I'm helping with some last minute flash cards soon. We are in a good mood but not sure how long it will last😂.

Good luck to everyone taking exams again today, and us parents dealing with the fallout.

Morning g everyone. Yes calmer here today too, and the same feeling about maths paper 2 and 3. We seem to have got into a breakfast routine of overnight oats and Matcha tea. DS forgot to make Matcha tea yesterday and blamed that for yesterday so we are sticking to the same breakfast for the month!

gingercat02 · 17/05/2024 07:20

Today is our first double exam.

Hopefully, it's not too bad. He loves geography, and he's only doing foundation combined science as he has no interest in science going forward, so a solid 5 5 for 6th furm seemed the sensible choice.

Think cake will be required at home time.

DS said yesterday he feels much calmer and the exams are started, so hopefully, that is the case for everyone.

We only have 3 next week, then HT, and we are halfway.

Lalux · 17/05/2024 07:22

Just heard DS singing in the shower so must be feeling ok. His 2 favourite subjects today - Geography and Chemistry so really hoping they go well for him and he can end the week feeling as though he's given it his best shot.

Good luck to them all again today.

MonkeyTennis34 · 17/05/2024 07:32

First double exam day here too.

Heard DD coughing in the night and was worried she'd caught my cold but she seems ok this morning, sat her desk right now looking at flashcards.

She's put Geography on the back burner, which is what DS did last year with Spanish and duly got a 3.

Popfan · 17/05/2024 07:48

Just geography here, DS dropped chemistry as it was a disaster and just doing biology and physics as single sciences which was totally the right decision! Very glad this morning that he just has geography this afternoon. Very little revision has been done as English language and maths have been such a focus but he's going to cram a bit this morning......

StarShipControl · 17/05/2024 07:52

Chemistry only but I can see ds is pretty frazzled. I kept telling him to go to bed but he was revising late.
Good luck everyone.

gingercat02 · 17/05/2024 07:54

Science is a core subject (with Engx2 Maths and MFL) at our school, which I find strange, so we took the simplest option.
Good luck to everyone, and enjoy your weekend as much as possible

Ellerby83 · 17/05/2024 07:58

Geog and Chemistry for ds today. Confident in Geog not so much in Chem. 7 exams this week, will be relieved this week is over.

Tebheag · 17/05/2024 08:11

School have sent a reminder out to remind kids no phones watches etc after a couple of kids have forgotten.
Good luck today to all students sitting Geography Chemistry and any other subjects

ComingInByAnsible · 17/05/2024 08:28

Got back from work trip (and GCSE detox) yesterday to find history, maths, and physics practical 'went well'. But the fatigue has set in big time. DS really struggled to force himself into chemistry and geography revision last night. Both today and both subjects he enjoys. Geography in particular is 'his thing', an A level choice, and he's really hoping for a 9 in it. No recent revision until last night in either though as he prioritised earlier exams.

Year 9 DD has end of year exams starting today so last night they camped out in his room testing each other on chemistry and geography. It was very sweet but exposed huge amounts of geography contents that DS needs to cram at lunchtime.

Good luck, everyone! We must be getting close to the halfway point surely?!

Mcvitieschoccybiscuit · 17/05/2024 08:34

I think they’ll all be glad for an extra hour or two tomorrow. My DD will have already sat 9 out of 22 by the end of today so almost at the half way mark. Been a very full on week- I think the half term will be an absolute blessing for them all.

MonkeyTennis34 · 17/05/2024 08:55

Lalux
You have a teenager who sings in the shower, in the morning??
What are you feeding him and where can I get hold of it?!

Waspie · 17/05/2024 08:59

Good luck to all students today!

DS calmed down over the whole maths paper crisis when he realised so many other people are saying the same about it (Edexel H). He talked it over with his maths teacher and thinks he may still have got 50% on the paper which means he can still a really good grade, if not the aspirational 9 that he was dreaming of (but never going to get). He needs a 6 for Sixth form as he's not chosen maths as an A level subject.

Just the Chemistry for him today. It's the science where he has the lowest predicted grade - so has put less pressure on himself to achieve some stratospheric grade. He also slept well last night, which he hasn't done all week, so looked a bit more human today.

Looking forward to the weekend. They - and we! - need a break Smile

RachelGreensHair · 17/05/2024 09:09

We are so ready for the weekend!! Three next week and then half term (and her 16th!) Almost all Paper 1s done by the hols :)

Countrylife2002 · 17/05/2024 09:12

Chemistry and geography here. I’ve worked out that half way through next Wednesday’s exam is the halfway point! Exams every day next week but no double days thank goodness. DD was a bit frustrated this morning as she had had the energy to do more chem revision but no time!

I need to remember to tell her for the next set of exams that she responds brilliantly to Adrenalin. She’s had bad anxiety all year over the GCSEs but since they’ve got started she’s been a machine!

Although saying that I did suggest she went out with her friends after next Fridays French as it finishes at 1015, and she said absolutely not she would just crash at home! She’s also agreed to take next Sat off to recharge.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 17/05/2024 09:13

Morning all Grin reporting for duty. Just been for a lovely sunny run and having fruit porridge and a pot of freshly brewed coffee. A good distraction as I always find 8.50-9am one of the most anxious parts of a morning exam!

DD really struggles with Chem but has worked hard to revise so I think this is one of those "hands of the gods " ones Confused

Good luck all and to your DCs

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 17/05/2024 09:14

Love the Matcha Tea superstition Grin

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 17/05/2024 09:15

I've just remembered ... aftet chemistry I'm picking DD up at lunch to go for brace tightening ... something to look forward to and the end of a tough week Grin

RachelGreensHair · 17/05/2024 09:24

Fingers crossed for not too many formula/Maths type questions in today's physics exam?

StarShipControl · 17/05/2024 09:37

Ds can't really relax this weekend unfortunately. He has masses to do for computer science paper 2 which is all programming and algorithms, which he's very weak on.
Lots to do for physics and English revision too.
Next week isn't as bad as this week, then he'll have to work his butt off over the half term for all the science paper 2's, maths and 2 history papers.

Techno56 · 17/05/2024 09:38

I'm bringing my son home after chemistry today, he only has lessons where they will be revising independently and he's completely worn out. Half a day off will hopefully make revising easier this weekend! End of wednesday next week is the half way marker for us.

I am nervous for him about chemistry as I find it confusing when I'm helping him revise (and I have a molecular biology degree...it was a long time ago though...!!) so we discussed making some little notes on the paper to help, before answering tricky questions to avoid confusion (electrolysis etc).
