New thread for when the other one fills up, I need somewhere to panic away from my son 😁

DD's verdict after today was this: Biology was great and German (L &R) was pretty good.

7 out of 24 done, yay! Long way to go though. Next week: Eng Lit, History, Maths, Chem. The only one I'm worried about is Eng Lit which she finds hard although she is an avid reader.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Countrylife2002 · 10/05/2024 16:11

@anoukis other way round for my dd! Biology went ok-well and German was easy

gingercat02 · 10/05/2024 16:14

Indeed biology seemed to be OK. Next week is tough. One Monday-Thursday two on Friday.
Keep strong everyone 💪

Countrylife2002 · 10/05/2024 16:15

DD had timetabled some work for this evening and I suggested she shouldn’t. Unsurprisingly she now agrees that an evening off is warranted! We’ll catch up with Race Across the World and Taskmaster 😁

Ilovewillow · 10/05/2024 16:23

RS yesterday and Biology today both AQA and both got the thumbs up so positive before the weekend. Let's hope she's as positive next week - 6 next week!

WarningOfGails · 10/05/2024 16:38

DD has come home incredibly curt and hostile. So no idea how the exam went!

Countrylife2002 · 10/05/2024 16:47

DD has 7 next week. Once that week is over we’re well on our way.
shes currently making the mistake of looking on tik tok re biology and realising all the questions she got wrong 😑 .
as long as re, history and English go well for her I think she will be ok though.

Newlease · 10/05/2024 16:57

AQA triple here as well, Biology went okay and German was really good.
currently playing Mario Kart. I have been getting up unusually early these days😶Have a lovely weekend everyone, fingers crossed for next week. I somehow had feeling that, after next Friday it’s half term! Now to come to terms with another week lol.
And DS to do SATs coming Monday, I am hoping the school is doing whatever is necessary, I can’t deal with that at the moment. Too late anyway 😁

They all do this at school and decide what to tell parents 🤣
we just have to sit tight and wait until results

GlomOfNit · 10/05/2024 17:03

DS agrees with the general consensus that today's AQA higher Biol paper was pretty fine! Grin Though he did say there was a very oddly worded question on phloem cells and he wasn't sure exactly what it was asking - his friends agreed.

I'm glad they've started off on what seems like a good one. Next week is making me feel queasy. It's one thing going into your first exam with weeks and weeks of revision behind you, and another thing entirely having one after another.

Us too - we have GCSEs and SATs in the house as well… :( I too hope the (primary) school has got the prep all in hand..And after next week it should be easier. I think next week is possibly the hardest gcse week for my dc, and will be a big relief for my youngest when SATs are done and dusted..

DramaLlamaBangBang · 10/05/2024 17:24

I had ' mixed' on biology, but it's his worst science and he said he answered all the questions and finished the paper, so that's good enough.
We were thinking of going tobthe beach for one day at the weekend but next week is tough. A break is probably needed for a bit though.

RunningAndSinging · 10/05/2024 17:27

My DD also has 7 exams next week 5 of them in two days. Once that’s over it will feel much better. I think biology was ok - she said it was ‘boring’. Not much in the way of details……

DramaLlamaBangBang · 10/05/2024 17:29

Eith science, what is the difference workload wise for double and triple science? DS1 is doing double but his gcse classes were 3 classes anyway. DS2 is more sciency and wants to choose triple ( year 8 so will choose his options next year) He's more academic anyway than DS1 so is more than capable but I was worried that it would be a lot more work.

postitnot · 10/05/2024 17:33

DramaLlamaBangBang my daughter says doing 3 sciences isn't as hard as doing 2 and a whole other subject like history.

BestsellingWine · 10/05/2024 17:42

Well, ds feels a bit differently to everyone else about biology! Thought it was hard which considering he was hoping for a 8 or 9 is slightly worrying.

Popfan · 10/05/2024 17:48

Foundation biology here... DS seems happy with how it went. His first one so good to set a positive tone for the rest!

Panic71 · 10/05/2024 17:52

Higher biology here…….I’m struggling to read DS’s response!

Gazelda · 10/05/2024 18:01

Has anyone got any great ideas or suggestions of resources to help in AQA Trilogy chemistry (combined) on 5.4 chemical changes?

DD has a complete block on it, doesn't understand it all. Shes looked at all of the usual suspects - bbc bitesize, cgp textbook, etc.

Any thoughts.

Thank you.

My dd has recommended Free Science lessons on YouTube. He’s great at giving concise summaries of topics.
she says if it is fuel cells that she’s struggling with then that’s one of the hardest subjects on the syllabus.

deuxgarcons · 10/05/2024 18:33

Edexcel IGCSE biology today was 'ok'. He doesn't like bio so that's about what I was expecting. We have 6 next week and 7 the week after 😬 so a bit of a tough two weeks until half term. 3 down 21 to go. Not a great spread for us as 16 before half term and 8 after.

Gazelda · 10/05/2024 18:44

Thanks @DippyDoo98! She said she'd forgotten about him so she'll check it out over the weekend.

Oh, I think “okay” for my DD would be, not gonna worry about it now.. Bio as far as I know have the worst marking scheme and most kids struggle to write what is expected, not because they don’t know the content.
we have two more papers, right? He could aim high on that.

rattlertattler · 10/05/2024 19:57

Can someone explain to me how grades/marking works for gcse?

Using random numbers, Is it the top 5 % gets A * star the next 10% get A or is it done more like anyone over 90% gets A* star, anyone over 80% gets A etc

Numbers just random obviously.

Sorry about the bolding, seems to be connected to the *

Yeah mine also so a bit worrying but she doesn’t seem fussed
