School offers day 2023

So.... secondary school offer day is almost upon us. How is everyone dealing with the wait?

My DD is thinking about it far more than I would have hoped, is counting down the days and asking everyday if they will come out early. She's angry at the council that they can't sort the whole process out in a week. Apparently it's "not that hard to sort it out"🤔 I have tried to explain the process and that it's not just her it's every other child in the district (and neighbouring district as we've applied for schools there too), but she's just being impatient to know.

I'm thinking about it...but I thought I'd be worse with her been dc2 and wanting her to go to the same school as dc1. (No sibling priority at that school) but she's got a good chance of it so trying not to stress.

So how about everyone else?

Today feels like it’s about 56 hours long. And given we are almost certainly going to have to go through appeals anyway it’s only the start of another 3 months of angst!

Good luck muniononion.

Thank you. We would have got in last year to 1st choice by scraping through, with at least six below us (I know distance of some kids locally who got in, and criteria is tight), but not feeling hopeful the admissions will fall the same way this year given bumper birth rate news! Tomorrow will be even worse than today. I've been going into difference between two dates all day on a countdown to 5pm tomorrow. Less than 24 hours left - yuck.

Why do you think appeals Amighty?

BananaSpanner · 28/02/2023 17:27

Results are on the portal for us. First choice, place accepted. And relax!

Tittyfilarious81 · 28/02/2023 17:32

@BananaSpanner what area is that please

redferrari · 28/02/2023 17:32

@BananaSpanner congrats. What area is that?

BananaSpanner · 28/02/2023 17:45

Solihull

ElvenDreamer · 28/02/2023 17:55

Gosh, I can't believe some are out! Good news @BananaSpanner and relax indeed!
6 tense more hours for me. I've decided I'm staying up, I can't deal with any more waiting (even though waiting list are probable!)

Amightywoman · 28/02/2023 18:05

Most kids in village go to a particular school and get a bus there but none of us are in catchment so every year there is a rigmarole where everyone appeals. Our ‘catchment school’ doesn’t take from our village either since it got popular and distances shortened. So what usually happens is kids from our village get allocated to school-to-be avoided in town and appeal our way out ☹️( it is not our nearest school or anything, probably third nearest, just the only one under subscribed!) . We have a faith school option but they contracted their PAN when their building contractors went bust 🥺

Tittyfilarious81 · 28/02/2023 18:14

@ElvenDreamer I'll be staying up ,I won't be able to sleep anyway

Muniononion · 28/02/2023 18:24

Utterly jealous of you @BananaSpanner - riddled with envy!

ElvenDreamer · 28/02/2023 18:26

@Tittyfilarious81 quite! I feel like I've had about 12 coffees today (I haven't, to be clear!) , it's pure adrenaline, and not in a good way.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 28/02/2023 18:36

Great news @BananaSpanner, envious you can spend the evening relaxing!

Hunter2501 · 28/02/2023 18:41

I’ve had the email - 3rd preference offered, which weirdly is the best school in Solihull, but unfortunately not the school DD wanted. Going to be tears but we’ll get on the waiting list and see what happens

ElvenDreamer · 28/02/2023 18:44

@Hunter2501 that's a tricky feeling, on one hand at least you know it's a good school, but equally fingers crossed for waiting list for your DD.

Hunter2501 · 28/02/2023 18:47

Yes it’s a weird feeling, and I know so many people would love a place at the school we’ve been given. I guess we’re fortunate to have such good schools around us. Bottom line is - it is only a preference not a choice

hauntedvagina · 28/02/2023 19:15

Solihull always go early! @Hunter2501 I think we may have the same school, what are your reservations?

Hunter2501 · 28/02/2023 19:20

TG? I think it’s a great school in terms of results but she’s goes to a feeder for Arden which is where all her friends are going, so naturally she wants to go there

SwanHK · 28/02/2023 19:22

Just curious what is your 1st and 2nd choice, grammar school outside solihull?

Yup! TG! Arden is a lovely school, fingers crossed for you.

Hunter2501 · 28/02/2023 19:24

Arden was first and Alderbrook was second, we had a good feeling about Alderbrook from their open evening.

I knew these would be your other choices! We're every lucky really to have such great schools available and no grammar's to contend with.

Tittyfilarious81 · 28/02/2023 19:26

@Hunter2501 will you be appealing to your first choice school or will your dd be ok with the school you've been given

Hunter2501 · 28/02/2023 19:30

I don’t really think we have any grounds for appeal, so we’ll go on the waiting list and hope for the best. With preference 1 there does seem to be some movement as pupils decline their place in favour of private school.
