School offers day 2023

So.... secondary school offer day is almost upon us. How is everyone dealing with the wait?

My DD is thinking about it far more than I would have hoped, is counting down the days and asking everyday if they will come out early. She's angry at the council that they can't sort the whole process out in a week. Apparently it's "not that hard to sort it out"🤔 I have tried to explain the process and that it's not just her it's every other child in the district (and neighbouring district as we've applied for schools there too), but she's just being impatient to know.

I'm thinking about it...but I thought I'd be worse with her been dc2 and wanting her to go to the same school as dc1. (No sibling priority at that school) but she's got a good chance of it so trying not to stress.

So how about everyone else?

I think if you apply via paper application then you get the letter. If you apply online like the majority do then you get the email (I could be wrong lol)

Just checked online and it just says school offer will be published 1/3/2023. I'd assume it's automatically uploaded when it turns 1st march.

I'm incredibly nervous about getting my DD into high school, our area is massively oversubscribed as there was a huge spike in birth rates for the area for 1 year and the last allocated place last year came down to distance and was about 5 minutes from the school. we are absolutely no where near any other secondary school that's walkable so it would be bus but only 2 secondary school runs a bus service in my area and both those schools are inadequate on last ofsted .

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 28/02/2023 11:47

I don't think some people realise how poor provision is in some areas of the country. Arriva have just started a consultation to withdraw the only public bus that would take DD to our third choice. It is 3 miles away so we would have no means of getting her there around work if that's where she was allocated. It's a very good school but completely inaccessible for anyone who can't drive their child there and back every day.

I've just had a look back at the email I received for DS's primary place. The email came at 13.06 asking me to log onto portal. I know the portal had been updated as soon as I woke up though.

Tittyfilarious81 · 28/02/2023 11:58

@PatChaunceysFruitCake Arrivas contract has just ended in our area and the company taking over are reducing the routes. This is what worries me I don't drive I've no idea how I'd get DD to any other secondary school at all especially with the new route reduction

OK - how many people are going to stay up tonight?

I am unsure, however, I do have some espresso martini in the fridge which looks tempting

starpatch · 28/02/2023 14:25

I'm not planning on staying awake but I may find that I struggle to sleep. If its not online by 00.15 I can assume I won't see it til later in the morning. 8am ish is when last years parents got their emails.

ElvenDreamer · 28/02/2023 14:45

Not planning, but will be unable to resist looking if I wake...which is more than likely.

UsernameOfMine · 28/02/2023 15:01

Not planning.... But I struggled to sleep last night and when I did I dreamt of school allocations and applications and appeals. So I may find myself checking during the night if I can't sleep or wake up.

I'm going to login to portal 12 15 tonight and see if it's on ,if not I'll wait then til morning although I can't see me resting well tonight

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 28/02/2023 15:36

Can you ask to be waitlisted for the other schools you didn't get, even if they were lower priority?

I'm thinking in cases where you get school 2, but it's since been rated inadequate or whatever so you now think we'll option 3 would be better.

Yes you can go on a waiting list for any school

starpatch · 28/02/2023 15:43

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz I think that may vary from area to area but you definitely can here I looked into this. Here you would need to make an inyear application to the other school to get on the waiting list if you hadn't applied at all, and if you applied you can just request it.

Live4weekend · 28/02/2023 15:44

I will probably stay up. I'm actually hoping i am too tired and go to sleep but I doubt it!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 28/02/2023 15:50

I had an early night last night to bank some extra sleep in readiness!

ElvenDreamer · 28/02/2023 16:03

I feel a midnight owl convention coming on on here!

NWmum12 · 28/02/2023 16:05

In London, At 5pm tomorrow?

DuckBushCityLimit · 28/02/2023 16:06

Yep, 5pm for London.

Looks like the eAdmissions site has already fallen over. Doesn't bode well for tomorrow!

Yes, it's always 5pm for the pan-London system, which is all boroughs plus Surrey.

The emails start going out in tranches then, and it can take some hours for all to be sent. But (if it hasn't fallen over by everyone doing this at once) you should be able to log in to the website and see you allocation after 5pm

eAdmissions isn't for our area so thankfully won't need to battle that tomorrow!!

Muniononion · 28/02/2023 16:21

i got my primary offer email from eadmissions at 16:53 - reckon results go on there before 5? I am already looking at it daily... on absolute pins

Muniononion · 28/02/2023 16:22

im pan-london! so awful to wait this long. Literally going to move house when we get a place, so much riding on this.

starpatch · 28/02/2023 16:34

Good luck muniononion.

Pipsquiggle · 28/02/2023 16:44

If you don't get your first choice, does the borough show tomorrow the distance of the furthest offer?

starpatch · 28/02/2023 16:57

Oh that's a good point my old borough wouldn't have compiled and published that information yet, and my current county doesn't publish it at all. Presumably they have to tell you if you email and ask.
