School offers day 2023

So.... secondary school offer day is almost upon us. How is everyone dealing with the wait?

My DD is thinking about it far more than I would have hoped, is counting down the days and asking everyday if they will come out early. She's angry at the council that they can't sort the whole process out in a week. Apparently it's "not that hard to sort it out"🤔 I have tried to explain the process and that it's not just her it's every other child in the district (and neighbouring district as we've applied for schools there too), but she's just being impatient to know.

I'm thinking about it...but I thought I'd be worse with her been dc2 and wanting her to go to the same school as dc1. (No sibling priority at that school) but she's got a good chance of it so trying not to stress.

So how about everyone else?

My cousins daughter got none of her choices including the closest one to her, I don't know what the plan is now as the three that got refused were the closest 3 for about 5 miles and my cousin is a single parent who works for an emergency service control room, so she can't drive her!

Same (except the emergency services job part).

I’m going to appeal though as our area doesn’t look at medical grounds on the first applications, only at appeal. DD is a childhood cancer survivor so I have a lot of paperwork to gather up over the next 6 weeks!

hope your cousin can find a way forward for her DD.

I'm at work and this is excruciating. Checked online and they've shut the portal as it's offers day. LCC are so backwards it's unreal. Guess I'll have to wait till after 9am for an email

Second choice here on the Hampshire/Surrey border. We are in a feeder school for our first choice but I guess it came down to distance. Pretty shocked as in previous years we’d have got a place but we were always aware it wasn’t a done deal.

The portal really isnt the easiest to navigate to find the outcome and accept the place! Finally found it after a mini panic. Good luck everyone

You all probably know this, but Accept the offered school even if you hate it rejecting it does no good unless you have a private place lined up or you are happy to home school for an indefinite amount of time.

Our results were on portal at midnight although I didn't fully believe it until it was confirmed by an email around 1am saying the same thing, 1st choice offered. I feel a little weak with relief and lack of sleep this morning.

Commiserations to those who are going to have to playing the waiting list game, especially if you are really unhappy with offered school, I really feel for you.

Really sorry to hear some of you have got your least preferred choices. I hope you get somewhere on the waiting lists.

We got our 1st choice here. Anyone else get two emails sent out?

I didn't even know LCC had a portal, thought I just had to wait for an email. Haven't had an email yet but they said working hours so maybe the mystical portal will also be updated then

Devon portal still not showing but email came in over night. First choice received, DD now wants to know the importance stuff of who else is going

No email but portal shows 1st choice. Massive relief, it was fairly certain as in catchment and sibling but my eldest originally got a school over 20miles away as a mistake so am happy not to be going through that again.

I can't even find anywhere to log in. Also LCC and unlikely to have got any of my options. Likely to get my catchment school which I will do anything to avoid.

I've been waiting for a code to be emailed to log on since 12. I know it's for safety but I'm fed up of waiting for these emails. A text would be better at least it pops up without he having to close the page and open my email app. I must have requested about 8 over 2 hours. Nothing. Wouldn't mind but I'd successfully logged in 3/4 times that day.

Just jumping on to reiterate about waiting lists.

I managed our transition this year and our intake changed massively after offer day, and again in September. By mid Sept we had offered everyone off the waiting list a place.

We got our first choice but now I'm having a major wobble as DD wants to go to our second choice now (then one round the corner) she keeps saying she doesn't want to walk 1.5 mile home in the winter and the rain when there's a school round the corner....feel a bit sick with anxiety

Unexpected as the distance has been shrinking year on year for our first choice. The allocation numbers are also on our LA website. It is such a massive year with schools adding bulge classes all over the place. I can't quite believe we've got a place within the ordinary PAN.

Anyone else in Herts? Portal appears to have collapsed under the strain, and DH (who submitted the application) says the LA said they won't update the website until the emails have gone out, and they won't be sent until this afternoon. 😬
