SPGS actual offers and acceptances

This has been mentioned a few times. Here's last year's actual results by school. The class was 113. 51 places were achieved by making 53 offers. That's 45% of the class. At that rate, it implies that a total of 4.4 offers were declined. If we think the other 55% is more likely to decline offers, then it's more like 7-12 total offers declined. Enjoy.

@pleasegrowmore maybe I am wrong, seems that the bursary people at least have been updated .. maybe just result of bursary..

pinmin · 04/02/2023 15:44

Just having a look now - is it somewhere on the dashboard?

Lolakath19 · 04/02/2023 15:44

Yes underneath the picture

Pleasegrowmore · 04/02/2023 15:45

We applied for “bursary only” place anyway so if it’s a no to bursary then it’s a No generally for us anyway.

Lolakath19 · 04/02/2023 15:46

@Pleasegrowmore hope I am wrong..

pinmin · 04/02/2023 16:09

No change for us yet…

LondonMum20222 · 04/02/2023 17:12

@Pleasegrowmore I honestly wouldn't give up hope until you've had official confirmation. It would seem very odd for a school to update your online portal before telling you officially, and equally odd not to update both the rejections and acceptances at the same time.

Were you applying for a 100% bursary? It's just that a friend of mine who's applying to SPGS for a partial bursary was told by the bursary people that it absolutely didn't affect the outcome (ie that being a bursary applicant wouldn't affect your chances of being offered a place) and she felt quite convinced that they were telling the truth.

LondonMum20222 · 04/02/2023 17:15

@Pleasegrowmore Just to add to that, Lolakath's DD didn't sit the interview, so it makes sense that her portal would show declined. So that's slightly different to your situation.

Pleasegrowmore · 04/02/2023 17:21

Thank you - you are very kind. When we applied for bursary it was just a yes/ no thing rather than a % - I think they then offer you what they think is fair judged on your finances. or not!

i won’t say anything to DD until it’s official. On the one hand it does seem odd to do it now (when results aren’t emailed until 10th) but on the other … it does still say declined, and that was updated on Friday, so I won’t be too hopeful either!

LondonMum20222 · 04/02/2023 17:27

@Pleasegrowmore Yes, definitely don't say anything to your DD until you have official confirmation. I absolutely wouldn't be trusting the portal at this stage. But if it is the case that your DD isn't getting an offer then I think it's a pretty shoddy way to do it (and you should let the Admissions office know later down the line..)

Again, this is second-hand from my friend, so it may be that your circumstances are different, but I thought they still offer a place if you're a bursary applicant and then you decide if you want to take it / can afford it. Is it possible they've declined the bursary application but you may still get an offer? (It just seems very odd that everyone's portal wouldn't have been updated at the same time).

Lolakath19 · 04/02/2023 17:43

Agree with @LondonMum20222 don’t lose hope. Seems that only the status of fully bursary have been uploaded anyway. Not sure if those were treated separately. And I would definitely raise that up after end of the week if it is really a no. still crossing my fingers for you and your dd. Did they ask you at the beginning of the process if you would take a place without bursary being offered? @Pleasegrowmore

Ernern · 04/02/2023 17:45

I am a bursary applicant and have seen a "declined" in the portal too. I will reflect it to the admission office if my daughter's application is indeed unsuccessful at last. It would be hugely inappropriate for some applicants to receive the news from the portal but not all.

Ernern · 04/02/2023 17:48

Oh I also received an email today requesting that I verified my email. Totally awkward.

Lolakath19 · 04/02/2023 17:49

I am really sorry if I have caused some unnecessary stress :( one of my friend checked this morning and that is why I mentioned it. I know that it happens last year (can t remember the school) that people could see the status before receiving the email.. I hope it does not mean bad news for Friday and it is either a glitch or maybe moving student to another system or whatever .

Did you friend apply for bursary too?

Lolakath19 · 04/02/2023 17:53

Yes.. all people I know that did not applied for bursary still had no change / update and still showed applied.
would be interesting to see if anyone with bursary application had the same.
sorry again if I created some unnecessary stress. Was not my aim

Ernern · 04/02/2023 18:00

@Lolakath19 nay it's useful info. Wouldn't bother me. St Paul's girls isn't our cup of tea. Let's see how it goes next week.

Daydreamscometrue · 04/02/2023 18:05

For those not invited to interview I can understand the portal reading 'declined' as presumably you would have been told this as we were some years ago. Therefore an offer would not be expected. For those who have been interviewed and it's reading 'declined' on the portal that could be connected to the bursary side of the application if it has been applied for. Hard to say.

Pleasegrowmore · 04/02/2023 18:13

I’m not sure what happens if you apply bursary only - one of the reasons we did (aside from the obvious fee one!) is also that if you apply bursary-only, there’s no fee to sit exams. We certainly wouldn’t be expecting (even in our wildest dreams) a 100% bursary though.

@Lolakath19 no need to apologise at all though! These threads have been hugely useful and supportive x

Rub19 · 04/02/2023 18:40

We are bursary applicant too and have seen a "declined" in the portal. My DD had very well in the interview but it’s very disappointed for us.

LondonMum20222 · 04/02/2023 21:32

To all those bursary applicants whose portal is now showing "declined", I would call the Admissions office on Monday and ask for clarification. It would be astonishing if they'd put rejections on a portal an entire week before they're planning to send results. Perhaps it refers to the bursary application but not the actual offer. Perhaps it's a glitch in the system that only affected bursary applicants. Whatever the reason, don't spend the whole week not knowing, and do call on Monday. 🤞

Pleasegrowmore · 05/02/2023 16:40

Yes I think you are right, I'll definitely try and call tomorrow. Annoyingly I pretty much have back to back meetings so if anyone - @Rub19 or others planning to - manages to get through/ any info before me, please do kindly post here (I will do the same if/ when I get any info!)

I think it's a very valid point that if it is a no, then it's a terrible way to find out.

LondonMum20222 · 05/02/2023 17:43

@Pleasegrowmore Good luck, and do keep us posted. I'm keeping everything crossed for you that it's a weird glitch...

Lolakath19 · 06/02/2023 10:04

@Pleasegrowmore @Rub19 Fingers crossed for you!

Ernern · 06/02/2023 13:02

The status has now changed back to "applied", lol
