SPGS actual offers and acceptances

This has been mentioned a few times. Here's last year's actual results by school. The class was 113. 51 places were achieved by making 53 offers. That's 45% of the class. At that rate, it implies that a total of 4.4 offers were declined. If we think the other 55% is more likely to decline offers, then it's more like 7-12 total offers declined. Enjoy.

I think this thread just shows the narrowness of some people's world- there are a ton of private preps not already mentioned that send girls everywhere. There are also a ton of state school pupils who can easily afford private school fees but choose not to at primary and will choose private over Tiffin etc. Just as there are huge numbers of Prep parents desperate not to pay secondary school fees.

Agrees there are tons, but from the probability/statistics point of view will be very different. Purely looking at one years for accurate picture doesnt make sense to me either.

HawaiiWake · 22/01/2023 16:21

Late offers from WL, when deposit in another school been given. So getting some data on offers doesn’t reflect the full narrative. Interesting to have a data and do a time line vs offer and WL. A few families prefer grammar schools or the French Lycee offers since it has cheaper fees.

spnumbers · 22/01/2023 16:33

BTW, if you do this for other years, the half of the independents, comes out with very similar numbers, not much variation.

@Link2022 I'm a current parent but have no idea. It could be 50% or 30%. Each year group is too big to know everyone and the girls barely discuss where they went to prep/primary. My DCs seldom know where any but their closest friends attended before secondary school. Sorry not to be more helpful!

How is your daughter finding it? My dd had an interview but she is much more interested in leh or Putney as she does not think it has enough competitive sport. What are your thoughts?

BonjourCrisette · 23/01/2023 11:06

I am a current parent at SPGS whose daughter came from a state primary, and who also got into Tiffin which we declined. Of the girls at SPGS she knows who live near us, most had applied to Tiffin and everyone who applied got into Tiffin and declined the place in favour of St Paul's (they did discuss the whole 11+ process quite a lot in Y7). I would not say that it is anything like 50% state unless that has changed over the last few years. I would guess more like perhaps 30% from the girls I know of (but that is obviously a small sample size). It is possible that this figure has gone up a bit in recent years because I know they are very keen for more bursary applications and that they have been doing quite a lot of outreach work to this end.

DilettanteMum · 23/01/2023 16:09

It's actually 18 in the end for Bute. Three off wait list.

FactyFrances · 23/01/2023 20:00

@Link2022 I think SPGS is wonderful; they seem to do everything better, and with minimal fuss, compared to other schools where I've taught or been a parent. But I'd seriously consider your daughter's preference since she's the one who will be at one of these schools for the next 7 years and LEH and PH are both very respectable options.

Their best sport is rowing, they have girls rowing for Princeton and Stanford. Not sure which sports your DD is most interested in?

Do they have Paulinas rowing for OxBridge?

So I heard from a NLCS parent - there are 12 kids from NLCS writing SPGS this year, so its true lots of the through to 18 junior schools will be writing this... why would parents shift girls from one top performing school to another?

Lolakath19 · 25/01/2023 11:59

With very little doubt, SPGS for 110 places will likely do at least 130 offers with waiting list of maybe 15.

Agree with the estimation in bullpark

11plus2023 · 25/01/2023 12:24

So SPGS has one of the best post interview conversion rates = 130/200? This is better than most other schools

Lolakath19 · 25/01/2023 12:31

I would not say it is better than other school, don t forget there are 3 different rounds and some people not even bothering applying if not at the requested standard.
Would not surprise me that G&L for example for 120 places will do at least 180/190 offers. Most of the girls sitting SPGS will sit G&L and probably get offers from both so that is almost 80/90 girls that will turn G&L down straight away.

School like Putney, WHS might do offers to more than double the number of places

Lolakath19 · 25/01/2023 12:32

And SPGS goes into their WL most years as well, last year 3 girls from Bute, 1 from KP and 1/2 from FH.

Someone mentioned in the past threads that one year the SPGS class was 113 girls. What would be the reason for the higher number?

11plus2023 · 25/01/2023 13:20

Thanks Lolakath 19 - we have to start the process this year and understanding the numbers is very helpful...

Lolakath19 · 25/01/2023 13:28

I have heard quite a few girls are leaving regularly (to go abroad/relocating, not good fit etc), with Brexit and so on, having 3 girls extra is not much.. @ 11plus2023 good luck to your DD but keep in mind that 11+ is not an end per se. If your DD do not make it to SPGS her life is not ruined and similarly if your DD ends up their, it does not mean that she is sorted lol. It is just a school.. Your daughter will achieve as well at SPGS than at FH or WHS or elsewhere. SPGS has brilliant / spectacular results because they have the top 110 performing girls on one day. Like Bute has 30% offers at SPGS because they take the 20 most performing girls of all prep around at 7+, it is not because the teaching is better than at another schools. Some might even say that some other schools have better value in that field, making sure that more academically average girls reached a higher target.

So true! A smart and driven girl will succeed in any academic school, as long as she is motivated and inspired!

I think there are lots of reasons you might want to move a DC at 11, even if they're already at a top performing school. Kids change a lot between 4 and 11, and what suited them for Reception might not suit them for secondary school. Perhaps you now know they're brilliant at a particular sport or music and want them to be supported more in that. Perhaps parents loved a through school for juniors but aren't so enamoured with the senior school. Perhaps the Head has changed and they don't like the new Head / culture. Perhaps they're awaiting a new head and it's all a bit uncertain (there is a LOT of movement among heads this year). I've no doubt that sometimes the reason is simply "we just want out child at the number 1 school in the league table"! But I think there are a lot of other possible reasons too.

PreplexJ · 25/01/2023 14:31

"So true! A smart and driven girl will succeed in any academic school, as long as she is motivated and inspired" + work hard at the levels as most other girls is doing in the school

Pleasegrowmore · 25/01/2023 14:49

Only just noticed this thread. I asked SPGS directly what % of girls (average of course) come from state primaries and was told around a third.

Have I understood correctly that at this (interview) stage - it's around 200 girls invited for interview for c. 110 places?
