Did anyone make the LEH information session online? Was there anything important? I think I’m going to struggle to make tomorrow’s too at that time. Perhaps I can ask for a recording??

Same here. Can someone please share what was discussed in the information session? Thanks

2012mom · 25/01/2023 19:24

I know the exam is over for most, but can the mums here do me a favour and help to ask their kids to see if this math problem is difficult or easy?

Find the 2 factors of 9991 with steps and workings.

I suppose the methodology is equally (if not more) important than the answer.

Hi, it was just a bit of info and Q and A basically just saying that they are interviewing about half of those who took the exam and would offer or waitlist the majority, they send offers on the 9th to receive on the 10th. They asked people to accept or decline as soon as possible and to be empathetic to those on the waiting list. They said they have induction days and a chance to meet the new head in the summer. They then did a Q and A and answered people’s questions re mentors, opportunities in sports, music etc- can tell more if you’re keen to know. They don’t do an offer holders event but if you haven’t seen the school will offer a tour. It was basically like a further version of open day type info bar the info re interviews and offers. They did say that when they get the results they don’t sort by result, they go through all alphabetically with their results, references etc and decide based on the whole picture which is good. Think that’s most of what I took away from it. There is another tomorrow too if you wanted to do that. Hope that helps!

Sorry that was meant to be a reply to @Workhar and @Taurus23

Don't apologise - really kind of you to share the information 😄

@Anno7 thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Very helpful! We really like the school but didn’t have a chance to tour so great that there will be an opportunity to look around if we’re lucky enough to get an offer.

Dallasdays · 25/01/2023 20:57

@underthesea3 we have applied to Reeds too. It isn't a school that is mentioned often on this thread - what do others think of it? I really liked the school when we viewed it, but I must say I found their admissions to approach of ISEB then short online interview for all very impersonal - there was no opportunity to engage with the school or visit it during the process. I felt it was a little lazy in its approach. As a result, I have no real opinion on whether it's a school that we want...

Completely agree. We LOVED Reeds when we went to visit all those months ago, lovely head, fab tour, amazing grounds etc.... but this process has been pretty appalling from them. Zero interaction, not even a quick christmas message/ thank you for the interviews/ results coming date etc etc. When you compare them to the impressive comms and videos and talks and updates from some of the more academic schools we've applied to, they are sadly lacking. I will feed it back cause they've lost us tbh even if he gets an offer (and have NO feel for that whatsoever!)

We have a DS who started at Reeds a year ago and loves it. A rounded school with a range of academic and sporty children, so easy to find a group of friends. Great facilities on site and apparently the food is great too! Head master is engaging. And accessible by train which makes it convenient as they get older and more indep. We did iseb too, although that was during covid.

This is really helpful - thank you. And good luck to all the girls! LEH is our top choice.

Dallasdays · 25/01/2023 21:32

Thanks @WhatFunThisIs - that's good to hear. It did seem like a lovely school when we visited. Although I agree with @underthesea3 that they have really fallen short in comparison to others on the process (eg KGS). It's a shame and I agree it would be good to feed this back to them...

Rockingallovertheworld88 · 25/01/2023 21:42

That’s really unnecessarily rude x

“Easy” says DS!

9991 = 1000-9 = 10 squared minus 3 squared.

(X squared - Y squared) = (X+Y) (X-Y)

so 9991 = 103 x 97 which are both prime numbers.

Marisquita · 25/01/2023 22:05

Spot the typo! My fault not DS’. X = 100 not 10, of course.

Trickleg · 25/01/2023 22:06

But 100 squared isn’t 1000?

Trickleg · 25/01/2023 22:07

Oh got it! 10,000 - 9 not 1000-9

your DS is very clever

Marisquita · 25/01/2023 22:09

Ach! Another typo. Sorry.

PreplexJ · 25/01/2023 22:09

"(X squared - Y squared) = (X+Y) (X-Y)"

Is your DD doing 11+?

This is a very deep question I have to say, SPGS section C past paper had sth similar but it is much easier, they only ask the pattern, but even the formula.

Trickleg · 25/01/2023 22:11

Marisquita · 25/01/2023 22:09

No no I’m just interested. He really is very clever. I’ve done university level maths and wouldn’t be able to do that

I know, but wondering how many 10 year old can do it.

Marisquita · 25/01/2023 22:13

He did 10+ and moved then, but is the same age as the current 11+ group.

2012mom · 25/01/2023 22:13

Your DS is very clever, this question is on a scholarship paper.

I am just wondering how many 10 year can do it.

2012mom · 25/01/2023 22:16

Which school is he going to?
