Thanks for continuing this @QuiteAJourney . This is a really useful series of threads. Will this be the one where our kids get hundreds of offers?

secondaryquandries · 19/01/2023 13:49

Thanks @QuiteAJourney and I hope so @KindergartenKop !!

Thanks for the new thread

NellyCortado · 19/01/2023 14:42

@QuiteAJourney - thank you!

@momomamiko - good to hear it went well at KCS. it was all very welcoming and nicely set up, as you say. DS said it went "ok-ish" but was a bit stumped by some of the trickier questions. I think nerves may have got the better of him. The interviewer was friendly apparently, as was the very pleasant sixth former who walked him to the interview. We won't be holding our breath for the results, but a fantastic experience for DS all the same.

I didn't get a chance to speak to the admissions team, as they were either busy greeting candidates or nabbed by other parents! Did you get any info about application/interview numbers?

Hope other interviews going well for everyone too.

Hackn3ymum · 19/01/2023 14:50

Thanks @QuiteAJourney for the new thread. I've been a complete lurker from the start of this thread but feel compelled to at least say hello, not least because having followed everyone's journey thus far, I also really hope our DCs get to where they want to be.

I'm grateful for all the nuanced input and diffent points of views on here. It has been extremely useful. For my DC we just applied for one private school in the end which we find out about in Feb. We have many good state school options where we live and so I'm also very much hoping to get our first choice there.

Talked briefly to a member of staff. As she was in charge of 13+, her numbers were ballpark for 11+ but said 200 int invites out of 500 exam entrants for 11 + and
150ish from 300 for 13+.
11+ intake is 60 boys.

She wasnt too sure and I hope I remember right!

I think some of those questions were good enough to stump us adults imo. We can only hope DC did their best and get through to the other side all in one piece :)

Have PM'd you @BlueTick

MrPickles73 · 19/01/2023 15:48

How long do you tutor your children for in preparation for the 11+ (grammar / private)? And how much work (hrs) outside of school have they done per week?
DS is in year 5 and we are considering grammar school application.
Many thanks

thanks all for the kind messages and joining the continuing conversation

@BlueTick No Mr Brierly doesn’t interview them all, they have other leadership team members (deputy heads) that do too.

EmotiveBubblez · 19/01/2023 16:26

@QuiteAJourney thanks for continuing the thread. Been out of the loop for several personal reasons whilst this process has been going on which has been stressful.

does anyone have an idea of the types of problem solving/ mathematical or English type questions they may be asked in interviews? (Examples would be great)

thank you in advance

EweCee · 19/01/2023 16:42

@BlueTick my DD was interviewed by a female deputy head. Some of her friends were interviewed by Mr Brierley. Does who you get interviewed by determine your 'ranking' on the offers list??? I.e does Mr Brierley only interview the top candidates?? (Aware I may be massively overthinking this 😁)

My dd has been on 3 interviews G&L, Putney and FHSS. None asked English questions. FHSS asked one easy math question according to my dd. It was more general chat questions getting to know you.

SamPoodle123 · 19/01/2023 17:15

Just curious about when offers start coming out for schools? So far I have heard Feb 10th for a couple schools and someone mentioned Putney sent out slightly earlier last year. When I asked they said early mid Feb. Anyone else have earlier dates to find out?

I am curious what the schools are doing now once they have the interview information. Do they sit in a room w files of the candidates and discuss? My dd mentioned ticking things on ipads during the interview, so I wonder do they rely on a computer to give the points for the interviews then they combine it with the exam scores to get an overall score? I guess it is different at all the schools!

learning2fly · 19/01/2023 17:16

Thanks for new thread

LoveMyADHD · 19/01/2023 18:08

@SamPoodle123 i was under the impression that London HMC schools have agreed that all independent publish offers same day , 9th feb

im sure that’s what I was told by one of the senior schools 🤔

SamPoodle123 · 19/01/2023 18:10

@LoveMyADHD ah maybe that is right? I do know that two schools we applied to said emails on Feb 10th (emanuel sends by post on the 9th with email on the 10th). Perhaps they all just email on the 9/10th then?

sailingsunshine · 19/01/2023 18:23

Most are around 9/10 Feb, it's extremely beneficial that it's half term and you and your dc don't have to talk about it in the playground/school gate and most of the admissions offices are on voicemail too so you cant ring and ask 100's of questions about deposits/WL/open days etc. A week later everything seems clearer.

I agree!

Thank you for the new installment @QuiteAJourney!

confu5ed · 19/01/2023 19:01

we were also told by a Head that the schools all agree a day to issue results
