DS2 has his GCSEs in June. He had mocks in November and more (why??) next month.
He needs to get 5 6s to stay at his current school (IB, not overly keen) or to transfer to another local 6th form.
He said he’s going to start revising this week......
Think his school will be helping him devise a revision timetable this week. I’ve bought him flashcards, he just needs to knuckle down now.......

I wonder how Biology went. My son didn't take his phone to school so won't know until he gets home.

Hersetta427 · 16/05/2023 10:38

Biology (triple) here today. Seemed fine when she went in. I didn't even think about a card. I have booked tickets for Harry Potter and the cursed child for after the end of exams though so hopefully that will be a nice treat for her.

Rowgtfc72 · 16/05/2023 10:45

No study leave here. Lessons and cramming sessions time tabled till the day of the last exam.
She's expected to be in at 8am for breakfast revision sessions.
They're also in over half term.

Another Biology here. It ‘went fine’. He struggled on some bits, graphs and analysis but plants came up which I’m glad about as I insisted he did extra revision on that as he said that’s his weak area.
Im very impressed with how chilled he is so far, I was expecting epic meltdowns. Am hoping that’s not going to bite him on the bottom come August….

That's brilliant. I'm glad plants came up too. Did the heart come up do you know? The teacher predicted it could as it hasn't for a couple years!

Hersetta427 · 16/05/2023 11:14

DD is back from Biology and is buzzing - she said it was brilliant. Even the six marker was on something she knew really well and the 3 markers were things she knew well. She knows the grade boundaries will be high but thats fine. She did OCR Gateway.

filchards · 16/05/2023 11:15

Back home from Biology by 11 am. Said it went ok (low expectations). Didn't use his extra time, but bought a pack of doughnuts from Tesco to share with his mates on the way home. I've made him a cup of tea.

Free now until Friday!

Titsywoo · 16/05/2023 11:19

whathaveyoudonelately · 16/05/2023 11:25

That's great to hear. My DD also did OCR Gateway. So hoping she feels the same as yours does!

My son did AQA I believe

mumonthehill · 16/05/2023 11:38

in answer to my how did it go, I got I survived! Will take that as a positive...

CallmeIT · 16/05/2023 11:41

The heart came up on the AQA paper.

CallmeIT · 16/05/2023 11:42

That was in response to @Homeworkhell82

Oh good!!

Purrfecto · 16/05/2023 12:01

My daughter said AQA went very well. Said most coming out were smiling so grade boundaries may be high.

I guess that's good they have some confidence after the first exam.

SheilaWilde · 16/05/2023 12:13

I've been lurking for ages. DS is 'capable' but has done little to no revision apart from a sudden burst on Sunday night and yesterday. His plan is to just cram before each one 🤦🏻‍♀️. He's just text to say he thinks Biology (AQA) went really well.

BonjourCrisette · 16/05/2023 12:30

DD has exam clashes today so I won't hear about the Biology horror until after 4pm as they are all locked up together until then. Hope she's not too upset.

kidstaxidriver · 16/05/2023 12:35

IGCSE Edexcel also reported to be hard and not just by my child!

Good to hear ( sort of!)
Hoping for a better paper 2!

Homeworkhell82 · 16/05/2023 12:43

How do all the different exam boards make the grades consistent across them all?

kidstaxidriver · 16/05/2023 12:44

They said so many topics didn’t come up!!?! And apparently some children asked the Bio teachers afterwards who were also unsure of some of the answers! Hoping for low grade boundaries - and yes a better paper 2!

Same- nothing they expected came up and was nothing like any past parts they'd seen. Oh well!
