Hi, Does anyone know the format of the CLSB exam? Roughly when you drop off/pick up etc? Two weeks to go and there's still no info. I'm wondering if I can fit it around work/work remotely somewhere nearby etc. We're doing 10+ but I imagine it's similar to the 11+.

The email telling us what to do and where to go came out today.

drizzledon · 18/11/2022 21:46

Thanks I've got it now too! For some reason I had it in my head that the exam would be in the morning which would have been nice. I was thinking we could do something fun in London afterwards but oh well!

DS had his exam in the morning today. Did you have yours in the afternoon?

drizzledon · 30/11/2022 23:22

Yes. How did it go? DS didn’t complete either the maths or the reasoning, not expecting much from this one! 😅

The vr was really hard 85q for 35 mins. Feel it’s bit too much for a 10 plus

JoeDoe · 01/12/2022 10:19

Email this morning from school said over 250 children sat the exam. DS sat the morning one and said there were at least a hundred kids there, so it sounds about right. He found the comprehension on the hard side. Best of luck to everyone.

Singjingles · 01/12/2022 10:40

Maths was tricky he said, skipped a few. VR was intense and couldn't finish last couple of questions. Good luck to everyone

MissScotland · 01/12/2022 10:57

Good luck to everyone.
The email this morning said by Thursday the 8th. Does that mean that there's an actual chance they will get in touch before?

JoeDoe · 01/12/2022 11:04

I read the email to mean Thursday early morning. Marking 250+ papers within a week (even with the multiple choice grid in comprehension) seems tight enough. Does anyone know roughly how many are shortlisted and how many places are available?

Singjingles · 01/12/2022 11:10

40-44 places are available, got this from their admission policy document. A quarter (of 250) are invited for the interview I believe.

JoeDoe · 01/12/2022 12:06

Thanks Singjingles. That means a fairly good chance if one is shortlisted, though I suppose it is hard to compare with previous 10+ years, and with the 11+ at the same school. I heard people saying 10+ at CLS is no longer easier compared to the 11+.

Singjingles · 07/12/2022 11:38

JoeDoe it's certainly not easier given school would like to keep it competitive as possible, but there is very little reference to come to any conclusion tbh.

Singjingles · 07/12/2022 14:17

I guess no one has heard anything yet on the exam results?

drizzledon · 07/12/2022 14:21

Nothing here! I thought by stating “by Thursday” we might start to hear before then but I guess not

Nothing here. Does anyone know if there is some sort of a siblings policy at City?

Singjingles · 07/12/2022 15:32

Applications of siblings are welcome but there is no preference for siblings, that's what admission policy says.

JoeDoe · 07/12/2022 15:39

It seems that the news will arrive tomorrow. Nobody I know who sat the exam has heard so far.

Singjingles · 07/12/2022 16:58

Looks like it, good luck to everyone here. We are not hoping to clear the exams but this will definitely prepare us for big marathon next year.

drizzledon · 07/12/2022 17:10

I'm not hopeful either but you never know

I am waiting for the results as well and hole it be will come out early morning rather than end of the day. Do any of you know someone who are studying there at 10+ and can share how is it like?

JoeDoe · 07/12/2022 18:17

I know kids who got in at 10+ and are very happy there. It is a big change from primary of course, and they do feel a bit intimidated by the size of the school and the older boys. But one difference is that the 2023 (year 6) intake will start at the junior school and merge with the girls of the junior school. This has pros and cons I suppose.

venusjoyce · 07/12/2022 19:48

JoeDoe Thanks for sharing. I didn't know next year will start at junior school first. DS hss always been in an all boys environment, if he gets a space, it maybe a shock to him to have girls as well.

Singjingles · 08/12/2022 09:46

We just received an email, we are not invited for the interview. If you haven't heard yet, it looks like rejection emails are being sent first, so hope you guys get some positive news.

drizzledon · 08/12/2022 09:51

We just got the email too and he's going through to the next stage, I'm in shock!

Sorry it didn't work out for you @Singjingles, are you applying to other schools? Hopefully you'll get good news from one of your alternate options.

So happy for you @drizzledon Congratulations.
No we did not apply to any other schools as we were just experimenting to see if DS can take the pressure. This was a good experience and will help us with 11+ preparation.
