RGS Guildford 2022 entry

My son recently sat the entrance exams for RGS Guildford. I'm wondering if anyone has heard anything yet about or been invited to the 2nd/Benefit-of-doubt interviews in January? Anxiously waiting here and not sure whether I want to get an email about it or whether I don't!!

I finally got brave and called the school a few days ago. The reception informed that all postal mail will go out by 1st Class mail on 10th Feb (Thursday) and mail should arrive by 10th / 11th depending on postal service. No emails. If no reply by 11th late afternoon, you can call the school. They will then be able to inform you. Mine is application for 13+. I forgot to ask for 11+. I'm really nervous...

Atreyu · 02/02/2022 15:35

Oh well done @JustInvolved! Countdown begins. 9 more days...

Does anyone have insights as to the chances of those who get called for 2nd interview, will get an offer? For 13+ boys, is it a case that they are asked to sit again in Year 7? Also, does anyone have numbers being taken in for 11+ and 13+? Apologies if the last question was asked before?

Pyrfwondering · 04/02/2022 14:51

@JustInvolved, there are usually 6 First Form tutor groups with 20-24 boys in each. In Third Form, there may be one additional tutor group created for 13+, of 20-25, if there are enough wanting to join. Otherwise, school may blend 13+ joiners into the 6 tutor groups, taking them up to 25 each (in total).

There are 13+ scholarship tests that can be sat in Yr7, but I don't know if 13+ candidates have to sit more exams at 12yrs old.

On the question of how many call-back interviewees get places... there's no set %. Each year it will vary, depending on how the boys do in the exams as a cohort.

Good luck with waiting this week!

11Plus2022 · 11/02/2022 14:19

Well done all, looks like good news all round. Very proud of DS, who has been offered a place with academic scholarship.

musicathome76 · 11/02/2022 17:56

Well done everyone!
My DS got offered a place; very happy, it is a fantastic school. He’ll be joining his brother who is further up in the school.

Oldmonk · 17/02/2022 11:14

Will someone have some advice for us- DS is fortunate to have offers from Hampton and RGS. Travel timewise both similar- one will be public transport while Hampton will be coach. Which one will suit a quiet but confident boy, not massively into competetive sports though happily participates in all. Not musical at all.

Hopeful201 · 17/02/2022 13:31

@Oldmonk my DS had Hamptons and RGS, he is at RGS but mainly because his brother is there and we have been happy with the school.
I think Hamptons is amazing, loads of space and lovely boys there. The issue we had with it was the location, RGS is easy to get to by train and they are in a town centre so they can socialise a bit (more for when they are older).
RGS likes all boys to do sport but I don't think it is as sporty as Hampton, but I'm pretty sure Hamptons won't be forceful in terms of making you play for a team.

We have been very happy with RGS, I don't think you can go wrong with either school tbh and once you make the decision you will be fine about it.
