RGS Guildford 2022 entry

Atreyu · 09/12/2021 08:00

My son recently sat the entrance exams for RGS Guildford. I'm wondering if anyone has heard anything yet about or been invited to the 2nd/Benefit-of-doubt interviews in January? Anxiously waiting here and not sure whether I want to get an email about it or whether I don't!!

Our boy crashed and burned on the day so we are eagerly awaiting the no letter mid/end Jan to get closure for him 😞 I think standard nos come by end Jan, and second interview results (either way) and yeses come mid Feb. But I’m going on what I have heard about past years, I haven’t asked Admissions.

Pyrfwondering · 06/01/2022 19:52

@Kew1 please call Mrs Sweet. She's always incredibly helpful and understanding. 2yrs ago, all the letters (yeses and nos) went out mid-Feb, I seem to remember.

You never know, your DS didn't crash & burn. It's tough waiting, but try to stay optimistic. Good luck!

Oldmonk · 06/01/2022 21:41

@Atreyu thanks.. appreciate your response.

To add, 2nd round interview for 13+ is confirmed for 11th Jan too. Any advice on what a Maths interview will ask for?

Atreyu · 10/01/2022 12:55

@JustInvolved I think I recall reading on a thread last year that they may revisit some of the questions your DS struggled with in the maths exam, and talking through them and seeing if he gets them then. Best of luck to all doing the 2nd interviews tomorrow. Do come back and keep us posted!

Thanks for getting back to me! Helpful! The interview was indeed a discussion of a number of maths questions. The questions were on a paper and an interviewer was there to see if you could address them by yourself or if you needed assistance. You were allowed to work out and write the answers. She was able to assist if you needed assistance. She was kind. After all questions were addressed, she asked 1-2 simple questions. About 20mins in total.

Atreyu · 12/01/2022 09:29

Thanks for the update. That doesn't sound too bad. Hope your DS felt it went ok?

I wish they would just send the outright rejection letters at the end of January as they've done in previous years. Such a painful wait.

Thanks! I don't want to jinx it and often DS says that it went fine and then the results are different. DS said that he was able to handle most questions without help except for 3 questions. The interviewer then guided him through the 3 questions and he managed to reach the answers. It was a tricky question on probability and 2 of them were linked to each other. The teacher did not give the answers. So fingers crossed that it went well. As of now, results will only be out in mid-Feb I think. Lets keep each other posted if we hear anything. All the best!

Joining you for the handholding.
Do we know when to expect rejection letters? Pre-pandemic it was around 31st jan and no news was good news for 14th feb offers.
It is a fantastic school and this is my third (and last) time through 11+ entry process. I have stocked up on vino and my postman knows me well Grin.

JustInvolved · 18/01/2022 12:52

No info so far. Will keep you posted…

Iamnotsoexcited · 19/01/2022 07:24

Has anyone called and asked if the rejection letters get sent out early? 🤞

Atreyu · 19/01/2022 07:38

Nope, not been brave enough Grin. But if anyone does, please do come back and let us know!

When are the results due out please?
I didn't have any boy candidates this year but am always interested to read this thread.

Pyrfwondering · 29/01/2022 18:34

Friday 11th Feb is results day

Bin85 · 29/01/2022 22:13

Thanks

Oldmonk · 31/01/2022 15:53

I assume no emails today for rejections like previous years?

Workingtheplans · 31/01/2022 16:20

Nothing here yet.

Previous years RGS sent out no's around now and then yes's just before half term. I can't work out if they are planning do it differently this year and send all responses on the 11th.

I also don't know if I am looking out for an email or post - this would be helpful as I am away for half term so might miss a postal letter!

The wait goes on :-)

Lonestar123 · 31/01/2022 17:07

There were no early rejection letters last year under the new ISEB system, if that helps? Likely to follow same format this year I would imagine.

MumOfBoys1980 · 31/01/2022 17:16

Also wondering the same & that’s interesting re ISEB process last year being different so sounds like nothing will come for anyone until next Friday. Thank you.

I’m finding the wait quite hard - keeping busy with lots of kids things, meet ups & work but it’s just lingering in my mind all the time!!

Atreyu · 31/01/2022 17:55

Finding the wait very hard too! Also didn't seem to hear of that many boys actually being called for that benefit of the doubt interview. Is that the experience of others too? (I know there were a couple on this thread, but in real life I'm not sure I know of any).

OP posts:
Pyrfwondering · 31/01/2022 19:26

@Workingtheplans the offers were made with an old school postal letter, 2yrs ago.

@MumOfBoys1980, the waiting is really tricky. I feel for you all.

@Atreyu the younger brother of one of my DS classmates was called back for a 2nd interview. The other younger brothers sitting the ISEB didn't get called back

Workingtheplans · 31/01/2022 19:54

@Pyrfwondering thanks - will assume that given its over half-term they won't expect a response within the week (fingers crossed!)

@Lonestar123 - thanks that is helpful... at least we can manage DS expectations appropriately.

Anywho..found a way to manage the wait.. DS has come down with Covid... so I have logistical joys trying to work out how to best to avoid him sharing it with his siblings and parents so that we can hopefully get a much longed for break during half term.

Send wine :-)

Pyrfwondering · 31/01/2022 21:24

@Workingtheplans sorry to hear your DS has caught COVID. Hope he feels better soon! Would send wine, but don't know where you are Grin

When we got DS's offer, about 2 weeks afterwards, there was an Offer Holders' afternoon. Only after the Offer Holders' event were you expected to sign the forms and pay the deposit. There will be time to think and decide which school to pick, once the letters have dropped through the letterbox. Don't worry Smile

Oldmonk · 31/01/2022 21:46

Thanks @Pyrfwondering... So is it only postal letters or email too?

Pyrfwondering · 01/02/2022 09:27

@Oldmonk historically it's only been postal letters.
