RGS Guildford 2022 entry

My son recently sat the entrance exams for RGS Guildford. I'm wondering if anyone has heard anything yet about or been invited to the 2nd/Benefit-of-doubt interviews in January? Anxiously waiting here and not sure whether I want to get an email about it or whether I don't!!

My DS sat it too. We were told that interview emails would come out by the end of term, so I’m
thinking they’ll be sent sometime in the next few days, but possibly as late as Tuesday or Wednesday next week? Haven’t heard anything yet either.

Hi - also wondering the same - I was assuming they’d come out sometime this week but haven’t heard anything either. Like you I can’t decide if I want to receive an email or not. Fingers crossed for updates soon

Hi same situation here. Just keep on waiting. Hopefully, we can hear some news by end of this week. Since 2nd interview is for pupils for benefit of doubt, then if I don't hear the 2nd interview, is it a good sign or bad sign?

Email invitations to sit the academic scholarship papers are out. Very, very relieved and proud of DS.

My DS also sat RGS - and here with you all biting my nails and checking emails!!! He also sat Hampton. Aaaghhh. SO nerve-wracking!!

This is all such a stressful process! Wish they would just send out the outright 'No's" as soon as they know. Think everyone has to wait till Feb half-term though to hear for sure

I've heard nothing about a second interview yet anyway. Assume we should hear by Wednesday close of play? As it's RGS' last day of school?

We got a 2nd interview email! Which I'm not sure if I'm disappointed or pleased by!! At least it wasn't a no I guess. Though surprised as was for maths - which he's usually very strong at! Anyway - thought I'd let you know! Fingers crossed for you all xx

No email here but sounds like today is the day if we do get one.....

No email here as well. I guess he didn't do well all of the subjects. Wish lots of lucks who gets through scholarships and 2nd interview.

Thanks for the update @pjsgalore. I know exactly what you mean, but I'd look at it as your DS still definitely having a good chance of getting in! No email here yet, but they could be working through them. I don't fancy the stress of another interview but I worry what it means if he doesn't get one!

Another friend from school also got the email - so I think if you haven't had one it's probably good news for you!! Fingers crossed anyway!!

Does anyone know if it is the same procedure for 13+ as 11+
We didn’t receive a call back for a second interview. My DS is down for 13+

On the RGS website it only says 11+ second interviews on 11th Jan. The 13+ stuff re scholarships seems to be pushed back a bit later, so who knows? I'd have thought all the interviews would be done on the same day though.

That's absolutely no help to you, I realise!

I'd forgotten the trauma of the 11+, my DS is doing A levels now so a while ago.
It really is no news is good news, you just have to hope they've sent the rejections out.

I remember this well as the wait was awful! My son is currently in year 8. Hope it helps to hear that he wasn't invited to sit for a scholarship and didn't have a 2nd interview. We didn't hear a thing until the offer arrived by post on 14th Feb so as previously mentioned "no news is good news". He's absolutely thriving there and has made so many friends despite knowing only one boy when he started. Good luck!

@Oldmonk Re the English interview, I've heard of boys in previous years being shown a poem and then being asked questions about it.

@villagegirlatheart Thank you! It's great to hear that your son is really happy there. I'm not sure this year that they're sending out any outright rejection letters early, as they have done in previous years. Think all letters are going out mid-February. Is that what others understand too? Makes it even more painful!
