I know. So many!

KingscoteStaff · 19/05/2021 19:54

They are surge testing on the other side of our nearest main road...

EwwSprouts · 19/05/2021 21:37

A bit close for comfort Kingscote.

Fiddlersgreen · 19/05/2021 21:40

They are surge testing in Hounslow borough and we are the next borough over.
Our numbers are much lower in comparison though

Zandathepanda · 20/05/2021 08:51

My friend told me they did surge PCR testing and 170 staff and pupils were tested positive in secondary school in Derbyshire. Don’t think it’s the Indian variant. Most of the pupils had runny noses and stomach aches.

Monkey2001 · 20/05/2021 09:31

Agree that the surges are depressing. Meanwhile, the govt is excelling itself in poor communication over international travel. Of course loads of people will go and then very loosely interpret the quarantine restrictions and we will get more spread, they know that the reason the Indian variant has spread, and is now costing millions of pounds and leaving some communities with restrictions is because people don't quarantine. I think Teresa May would have been better at leadership at this time, or almost anybody other than Boris!

Monkey2001 · 20/05/2021 09:35

@Zandathepanda, must be this one www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-derbyshire-56988415. I guess they weren't doing much lateral flow testing. Sad

Zandathepanda · 20/05/2021 10:48

Yes, that’s the one. Friend says it’s now in the town but all linked to the school. I think the lateral flows were being done but maybe didn’t pick up as much as the kids weren’t showing the ‘proper’ symptoms so they got a shock when they did the pcr tests.
Warning to teachers on this thread (don’t read this link unless you want a good ‘no shit Sherlock’ rant):

I guess it's good that students are actually doing LFT so these cases can get isolated and away from spreading. Lots at DD's school have opted not to do it as 1. They've already had it so think they can't get again or pass it asymptotically Hmm or 2. Can't be bothered.
DD is part of a national hospital study so gets tested for that regularly and also does twice weekly LFT too.

The bullying saga seems to be dying down now. 3 of the SM group chat girls have been sent to head for a chat and they've been lovely and offering support to DD saying how valued she is and if they have said anything nasty to let them know so they can put it right. DD has been so lovely back to them (her normal anyway). The main girl was off school when the other 3 had their chat but seems up to speed and is also being super nice to DD. So although DD didn't snitch as it were it's worked out well. Let's see how long this lasts.

Piggywaspushed · 20/05/2021 12:09

What is really odd around me is they are not testing whole schools. they are now doing surge community testing but are relying on folk to turn up. Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 20/05/2021 12:10

Haha! I'll bite!

No shit Sherlock!

Zandathepanda · 20/05/2021 14:58

Piggy apologies! I did have you in mind and noblegiraffe and all the other teachers who could have written what the health guy said last September.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 20/05/2021 15:11

Sooooo DS has had cold symptoms for the past couple of days with a runny nose. He took his LFT last night which was negative but the messages above have made me worry. I just looked to book a PCR test online but it won't let me because he doesn't have one of the three symptoms (temp, cough, loss of smell/taste). Clearly these are not the only symptoms as we have seen many times. WWYD?

crazycrofter · 20/05/2021 15:20

I’d just tick that he has one of them - no one will check. It’s what I did at Christmas as the rest of the family had classic symptoms but I just had a bad headache. I tested positive.

Piggywaspushed · 20/05/2021 15:22

Just lie about symptoms if you are concerned. The gov had never ever been open about symptoms in young people which include stomach upsets and runny noses : usual under the weather stuff.

Our lad who ahs just tested positive was off feeling poorly and mum phoned in 'not covid'. It just happened to be his LFT day so he did it. Positive. Now PCR confirmed.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 20/05/2021 15:47

OK I think I might do that then. I put the cold down to playing football for an hour and a half in torrential rain but those reports concerned me a bit.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 20/05/2021 15:48

Do they ask you about symptoms when you go?

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 20/05/2021 16:05

I have booked it for this evening.

EversoDelighted · 20/05/2021 16:32

No, they just tell you how to do the test.

crazycrofter · 20/05/2021 16:32

No,they barely speak to you Grin Definitely no questions about symptoms.

Ds has been sent home again after the false positive earlier this week. Seems a bit ridiculous though - his only contact with this case was playing football in games (outside). They weren’t even on the same pitch. I’m sure he wouldn’t be classed as a close contact by PHE?

EversoDelighted · 20/05/2021 16:33

Even if they did ask, just say altered sense of smell, its entirely subjective.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 20/05/2021 18:21

Thanks all, test is in an hour, I’m sure it will be negative but better safe than sorry.

Monkey2001 · 20/05/2021 19:58

Fingers crossed 🤞 Just. Hope the results come back soon. I think he is supposed to SI whilst waiting, but a lot of people don't.

Fiddlersgreen · 20/05/2021 21:30

Good luck with the result @JustHereWithMyPopcorn

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 20/05/2021 21:33

Me too, DS is unhappy with me because he’s now been told he can’t go out tomorrow evening unless he gets a negative result sent through - I am a bad mother! Quick question, does his brother have to stay off school because his older brother took a pcr test?
