But how ridiculous is that - that it can take a week in one area and a year in another!!!

Monkey2001 · 18/05/2021 15:22

Was dog walking with a GP friend this morning and she said she referred someone to a dermatologist a couple of weeks ago and the dermatologist has already requested blood tests before the appointment as they think roaccutane might be appropriate. Sounds like an awful drug though - she said girls need to be on a very good contraceptive because it causes very nasty birth defects as well as the mouth ulcers and suicidal thoughts.Sad. She said doctors can't prescribe it, but if she sees a teen about something else and notices acne, she always encouraged then to see a dermatologist.

crazycrofter · 18/05/2021 15:43

It is an incredibly powerful drug. I'm on a facebook group for roaccutane survivors - although most people on there have seen the desired effect on their skin and no serious long-term side effects, there are a few who are very vocal that it should be banned. I also watched a horrendous documentary a few years back - Dying for good skin I think it was called.

The problem is that very bad acne can cause depression and suicidal thoughts too. I remember the difference clear skin made to my life as a 15 year old. So it's a very hard decision.

AnneOfCleavage · 18/05/2021 17:38

Aw thanks all ThanksSo lovely of you. I'll pass on to DD when she's back from her club. Think they are holding fire on announcements while they get to the bottom of the bullying. Unfortunately the form all think it's still DD who has told and she can't shake them off that idea without giving who it really was away - a friend who suffers with terrible anxiety and who thought she may have been on these SM group bitch fests. Seems she involved her parents who went to the school head. Who would have thought this would still happen at ages 16/17/18. Crazy.
Bumped into a dad of an old friend of DD's who is having the same thing happen with her group and she keeps leaving the SM group chats as it's one big bitch fest then gets slated for leaving. I've suggested DD and her reconnect again as both trying to rise above it and keep out of trouble.

Had no idea that roaccutane could cause birth defects Shock Sounds v serious stuff indeed. Good luck to all DC getting appointments for acne issues.

Fiddlersgreen · 18/05/2021 18:18

Wow @Oblomov21 that’s great! Very fast!

@crazycrofter do you have a link to that Facebook group please?

crazycrofter · 18/05/2021 19:39

@Fiddlersgreen it’s called ‘Accutane survivors , Roaccutane, Isotretinoin injuries and side effects.’ Cheerful stuff! Although it mostly seems to be about face creams and mundane stuff like that. But occasionally someone posts a horror story.

@AnneOfCleavage that’s awful! Dd found herself in a small friendship group when she moved school which was very bitchy. She was really uncomfortable with it and managed to manoeuvre her way into a nicer group. But I don’t think there was any social media nastiness. I hope it all dies down.

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 09:01

Three more cases at DS's place. Aaargh!

Has no one else had any??

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/05/2021 09:03

We had one case in Yr 9 a week or so back. Just a small group isolated.

Seeline · 19/05/2021 09:06

I'm not sure if we are actually told about cases in the rest of the school Piggy. DD said that they were told of one case in the U6 at the beginning of the week, but that there were no close contacts. U6 were on an exam week last week so only in if they had an exam, so assume the pupil concerned hadn't been in for exams at the relevant time which was lucky for the school. Haven't heard of any others since Easter.

Monkey2001 · 19/05/2021 09:17

No cases I am aware of here. The school has been very careful, Y12 and Y13 each in half time for the year so that they never mixed, no sports or extra curricular activities, and it seems to have worked as we have got through the year so far with no self isolation for Y12 and it is a large sixth form (over 300). Looking forward to the final half term as Y13 no longer going on, so Y12 full time and possibly a little extra curricular stuff - unless new variant spoils all......

FoolsAssassin · 19/05/2021 09:19

Sorry to hear that Piggy . No cases that we are aware of at the moment here but know that can always change.

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 09:28

Is that a state comprehensive monkey? Just wondering how they got round the gov guidelines/bullying (delete as see fit!)

Y12 and 13 at DS's place kept separate so no spread between years, thankfully.

We have Indian Variant. Let's hope you all stay clear of it!

estherfrewen · 19/05/2021 09:32

No nothing here either and massive sixth form across two sites. Town itself averaging about 5 cases a day. No masks in school now. DS has exams this week. Very laidback approach to revision...!

crazycrofter · 19/05/2021 09:41

@Piggywaspushed ds (year 10) is isolating due to a case in his science set. I’ve been hoping it was a false positive and the PCR test would release him, but a friend says the boy in question does have a sore throat (still waiting for PCR result I think). Dd said there’s been at least one case in her year recently. There were several cases daily at both their schools between Sept and Dec so it’s seemed very quiet since they went back.

It’s a bit annoying as we’re going to my parents on Saturday and now ds wont be able to come. He’s had covid at Christmas (we all did) so I’m hoping we’re protected!

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 09:43

Good Luck crazy. Poor DS .

20newnames · 19/05/2021 10:39

One case in the main school here, none in the sixth form so far.

Oblomov21 · 19/05/2021 12:15

Oh dear Piggy.
We seem incredibly low down the list as a county here, re any cases, let alone Indian. Face masks removed, (and unlike Monkey) all after school activities being run.
Maybe that won't last much longer though? ......

Fiddlersgreen · 19/05/2021 12:37

No cases here in either the 6th form college or my younger DS’s secondary school.
Maybe we’re just not being told about them?
College is huge, around 2000 students apparently with both year groups. Until Easter they were only in alternate weeks and spent the “home” week doing online lessons. They have all been in together since then though

Yes, a state comprehensive. Maybe sixth forms have a bit more leeway?

I think they interpret rules in a way which they consider effective - when the lateral flow tests were introduced they said from the start that if you test positive you should get a PCR test, although that was not the official advice.

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 16:17

No leeway for sixth forms in schools at all! Your school obviously cunningly -and sensibly- worked round the guidelines!

crazycrofter · 19/05/2021 16:33

Well ds is back to school tomorrow. The positive lateral flow test was folllowed up by a negative PCR! I’m relieved, he’s very angry!

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 17:04

That has happened in nearly all cases at my school but none at DS's : they have all been confirmed.

It's like a very quick hokey cokey at my school!

EwwSprouts · 19/05/2021 19:14

Oh no Piggy, that is unlucky.

No cases at DS's 6th form. There were two isolations in lower years but they didn't have it, just had mixed with someone outside school.

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 19:22

I just heard about a local school with 50 cases in the space of 3 weeks Shock

Fiddlersgreen · 19/05/2021 19:33

@Piggywaspushed that’s terrifying!
