Sorry to hear of all these dd's period struggling.

Well done sansou.

Agree with crazy about damage done to our dc.

I've asked GP for dermatology referral for ds's acne. His girlfriend of a few months who is an absolute beauty and totally lovely seems besotted. Lord knows what she sees in him. Wink

Shimy · 17/05/2021 17:47

DS1 in Wales hasn't been called for vaccine yet, so no fast enough for me to be honest.

crazycrofter · 17/05/2021 18:34

@Oblomov21 just to warn you - not sure what it’s like round your way but Ds is waiting for a dermatologist appointment and we were told to expect to wait 8-12 months!

By contrast, I don’t remember Dd waiting at all when she went through the process 3 years ago so it can’t have been more than a month. Is he on antibiotics in the meantime?

orangecinnamon · 17/05/2021 18:49

Aww thanks all. Some really useful advice. I'm keeping an eye over the next two weeks. Dd has had nearly two days without bursting into tears so..yay !We've started doing the daily Calm on the Calm app together too.
She is a little homebird but even she has suffered, not meeting others socially.

Things are looking a bit brighter for the month ahead , fingers crossed the Indian variant doesn't cause issues.

@crazycrofter
I think that your DD went to my alma mater. I'm an old Ed!

Stress levels climbing here. Y9 DD (too laid back for her own good/lazy) is starting to panic about her end of year exams next week (a bit late for that!) and DS stressing about his exams straight after half term. I'm just keeping the snack cupboard full and making sure both go to bed at a decent time.

Fferny1 · 17/05/2021 21:10

Mine hasn't been yet at Bristol @FoolsAssassin. I'm concerned about this variant as the one guy in their house who's had covid has been ill ever since with long Covid. Previously extremely fit & mentally robust.

crazycrofter · 17/05/2021 21:33

@sansou you’re probably on one of the many photos in the main corridor that I used to look at when waiting for parents evening appointments! It’s a lovely school - just a bit too high pressure for Dd in the exam years.

Fiddlersgreen · 17/05/2021 22:34

@Oblomov21 @crazycrofter
I’ve finally convinced my doctor to refer me to dermatology for my acne (Better late than never!) and I’ve received an appointment for end of June which I thought was pretty good

Fferny1 · 17/05/2021 22:53

That's fast @FiddlersGreen. Dd1 was told it would be over 12 months so we ended up going privately for Roaccutane. Also the same for ds2 who's just recently finished a course of Roaccutane. Now ds1 has also been told he probably needs it too. But we're trying antibiotics first, which don't appear to be doing anything for his spots at all.
Dh Developed really bad acne late and has passed this on.

Fiddlersgreen · 17/05/2021 23:35

@Fferny1 someone on here (might have been you?) advised me on the costs of going private and so I went crying to my doctor and he finally gave in. I’ve been going though this for over 20 years, tried every different antibiotic and contraceptive pill going. I only found out about roaccutane a few years ago and have been asking my doc ever since.
How were the side effects for your DC?
The list is pretty long!

Fferny1 · 18/05/2021 00:04

Ds2 didn't complain at all even though his lips were very dry and his knuckles cracked and bled during his outdoor activities. He sprained his knee badly and it took much longer to heal because of the Roaccutane i think.

In contrast dd1 moaned and complained frequently 😉. She had to stay on a lower dose for longer, as she couldn't tolerate the higher dose. Her skin became so dry and I think she had muscle pains. I had to buy her very expensive lip balm - aquaphor. As it was the only one that worked. Also she had 2 exacerbations - the first one which is normal ( as the accutane is flushing out your skin) plus a second one when we went on a long holiday to Asia for some reason. Maybe due to the humidity or the sunscreen she was using. She's obsessed by beauty care & trying new things.

It remains to be seen how ds1 will cope.
The Dermatologist jokes with me now about my extensive Roaccutane & Acne knowledge.

Oblomov21 · 18/05/2021 06:23

Thank you all. Ferny ds was on a tablet, for a couple of years, fexofenadine? Not Roaccutane. Yet.

This made his skin incredibly dry and so painful. And thin. Like it was being stretched like a balloon across his face. He hated it.

He's also Uber healthy, boxing, exercising and stretching, won't eat anything other than healthy protein etc. 🙄And because of that wants to be 'au naturale' Hmm and not put anything in his body /mess with his hormones.

Which I do get. But how do you get around that if it's your hormones that are causing the problem? I will pay to see a dermatologist privately if I don't get one soon on the NHS. What will they say re ds's naturale concerns?

Oblomov21 · 18/05/2021 06:25

I'll just book him in you Ferny. Expert. GrinWink

FoolsAssassin · 18/05/2021 06:26

Ffemy, that’s really not good about that poor guy. I thought I read on here Bristol had started but might have imagined that,

crazycrofter · 18/05/2021 08:29

@Fiddlersgreen that’s really quick! I think our GP made the referral in Jan and nothing yet...

We’re also rather experienced with roaccutane- dh, Dd and I (twice) have all had it. I hated the side effects (mainly really dry skin and lips) but it worked. Dd didn’t seem to suffer too badly, but it took ages to work - and to be honest, her skin isn’t great now, but much better than it was.

@Oblomov21 ds is the same - super healthy and fit - but he’s desperate to get rid of the acne. I’m quite wary as I think boys can get worse long term side effects. Plus I worry about depression.

AnneOfCleavage · 18/05/2021 08:34

Aw don't our teens have enough to worry about without skin issues to boot. So horrid for them. Quite thankful DD is in a small 6th form and now the masks have been dispensed with in class she can let her chin breathe again. She is just about to start her 2nd month of Perfectil tablets (bought on Amazon) which help skin, nails and hair - you can get specific ones just for skin too. I've noticed a difference and so has she. She's also been using the carbon theory soap bar for the last year too which seems to keep on top of things.
Hormones do such weird things to us.

I'm pretty sure Fexofenodine is just an antihistamine Oblomov as DD takes 120mg (quite a high dose) for hayfever and has done for years. Would have loved that to have sorted out her acne too - 2 birds with 1 stone. Happy to be told I'm wrong though.

Loads of T going on at DD 6th form as there's been some bullying on social media so the head of 6th form has clamped down hard. For some reason the bully thought DD had whistleblowed and confronted her but it wasn't her. It's making for some uncomfortable lunch times. All coinciding with head girl/boy interviews so tensions are stretched anyway. One of the head girl applicants has been part of the social media posts but removed herself from them when the shit hit the fan. DD will not name her to the head as doesn't want to be a snitch but I'll be gutted if she gets the post and not DD who is never included on these groups as she's known to not bitch about people so not as fun to include on there apparently. We'll see.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/05/2021 09:29

I've kind of given up on DS's acne as he was so bad at taking the tablets. It eased a lot while they were off school and has returned now they are back but to a lesser degree so he's not too upset about it or certainly not complaining so much.

Sorry to hear about the bullying Anne I will keep my fingers crossed that she gets the post and not the other girl.

I had my second jab yesterday, I was worried that I would react badly like last time but it's been smooth sailing so far .

crazycrofter · 18/05/2021 09:34

Sorry to hear about the drama @AnneOfCleavage, I hope justice is done with the head girl appointment.

I think boys can cope better with acne as they’re not expected to have perfect skin like girls. Oh the other hand girls can use make up to cover it! Ds is most bothered by the painful spots. I think if his face didn’t hurt he wouldn’t mind so much. Dd didn’t seem to have painful ones, just lots of small ones all over her face. I only stopped getting spots completely in my 40s!

ealingwestmum · 18/05/2021 10:29

Rooting for your DD today Anne

Oblomov21 · 18/05/2021 10:59

Rooting for Anne's dd.
How can the school not see through the other girls veneer to see what she really is! Hmm

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/05/2021 11:10

They rarely do in my experience Oblomov21

Fferny1 · 18/05/2021 12:41

@oblomov just tell your Ds Roaccutane is a vitamin A derivative and is already present in the body in small amounts.

Yes mean girls are often the popular girls and the ones who tend to get voted in to these positions. Dd2 used to be one, though not any more. Parents used to be bitchy to me too, which was weird as I am the complete opposite 🤷🏼.

orangecinnamon · 18/05/2021 13:40

Best of luck to her @AnneOfCleavage. Hopefully the truth will out.

They are on fire with outpatients appointments here.

I just chased. We only asked both our GP's for referrals last week. My HRT is next week. As is Ds1's dermatology aswell!

crazycrofter · 18/05/2021 14:24

Wow @oblomov21 we're obviously living in the wrong place! Hope he copes ok with roaccutane (assuming they prescribe it).
