They are still interviewing as they grouped the students by age.

So, your February group should get results around May.

Good luck to your DS

HappyMamababa · 29/03/2021 08:01

Oh Thanks and happy to know that. Coz my son is in the first tranche and we expect to hear by the end of April, but then I saw in the chat that some received offer already, but not sure if it’s talking about 2023 entry.

@HappyMamababa good luck to you and your DS and I hope all goes well for him. I can only imagine how stressful a process it is. Are you ok if I DM you with a question please?

HappyMamababa · 29/03/2021 11:53

@soonishsoonish
Sure. Pls message me anytime. Thanks

Thank you. I just have

Mummy195 · 29/03/2021 13:53

OP, I am almost sure that the very first group before the regular age groups, would be the bursary DC, I also wonder when they have the international students?

Is it possible that your group chat fall among those?

HappyMamababa · 29/03/2021 14:49

@Mummy195
We are living overseas, but I think local and international students are in the same group by their date of birth? (3 different tranches by birth month)

OP posts:
Mummy195 · 29/03/2021 16:22

So are your chat group also international? Are the DC who are accepted bursary students?
Schools do things differently of course, but most schools do not keep the rejected students hanging on, unless they are iffy and thinking of waiting list them - even then, they would let you know. I don't supposed Eton in particular would have a long waiting list anyway.

Do you have other schools you applied to in the UK?

xx

BilboBagginsoftheShire · 03/04/2021 11:21

Did you hear anything back yet Mamababa?

Zingapopo · 05/05/2021 21:27

Mine had his interview on the 18th of Feb and as far as I know for this 2nd tranche the results are out end of May.
Good luck

DoctorFoster · 13/05/2021 15:51

We were in the second group for 2023 intake and heard back yesterday that they want to see him for the list in September. In two minds as to whether to continue with our application (he already has a place at Westminster) as he could do with having a summer completely off (He really slows down over the long summer holidays and then doesn’t really get back up to speed until the autumn half term)

HappyMamababa · 13/05/2021 16:07

@BilboBagginsoftheShire
@Mummy195
@DoctorFoster

Sorry that I must have missed all the messages previously.

We received email saying that my son will need to take the Eton list test in Sept. I guess at this stage, they give our offer less than 1/3 ... then the remaining all go to Eton list test ?🤔not sure if they will have another round of interview of just the Eton list test.

When do you need to pay deposit for Westminster? It’s totally difference type of schools, and it depends which type you would like to go for?

OP posts:
DoctorFoster · 13/05/2021 22:00

The earlier communication we got from Eton was that around half of offers would be made at this stage to candidates ‘in whom they have complete confidence’ based on school report, ISEB and interview and the other half following September. Still not sure why they went with this approach (instead of the first proposal of doing the list at the boy’s current school in the spring or summer term) as now despite saying that academic credentials are not the discriminating factor at this stage it is hard to see what else they hope to get from another exam that wouldn’t have been beneficial information in deciding the entire cohort.

I have to declare a bias - Westminster is my and DH’s clear preference, it’s DS who is set on Eton.

DoctorFoster · 13/05/2021 22:02

Westminster deposit is by the end of the academic year but is refunded if you withdraw the application before the end of the calendar year.

DoctorFoster · 13/05/2021 22:05

Correction- I just checked and that is the entrance fee not the deposit. The deposit is due September 2022.

DoMyBest · 17/05/2021 10:26

I think there’s a certain amount of Covid & exam fatigue amongst parents and schools: these headmasters, registrars & housemasters tend to also have children they had to homeschool/help with exams etc and Covid lockdown has made most of more... relaxed. We saw school after school cancel exams/assessment mornings in favour of short interviews and (I could be wrong) but I suspect the motivation for that wasn’t just Covid restrictions but also sheer... exhaustion!

lexiee · 15/06/2021 17:45

What are you doing over the summer to prepare your son for the List Test in the autumn? My son will sit it this year after missing out on an ISEB place. We are tired of exams but want to see if he can get a place.

DoMyBest · 15/06/2021 19:08

Not much. We’ll be focusing on helping him catch up on all the main common entrance subjects as his memory of everything but maths & English is super sketchy...

HappyMamababa · 16/06/2021 00:51

@DoMyBest
Common entrance would be Y8 April right ? Seems we still have plenty of time for common entrance

OP posts:
HappyMamababa · 16/06/2021 00:55

@lexiee
I also wonder what we are do to prepare for the Eton list test ? As we are living overseas, I don’t think we can travel to uk for the Eton list test. I heard that something else would be arranged for overseas applicants

OP posts:
DoMyBest · 16/06/2021 06:09

Well yes plenty of time before the exam, but the preparation’s more so he has a clue what’s going on in class. The pace jumps quite a bit (we have a son in the year above) in year 7 and without a grasp of the basics he’ll be quite lost.
