May I know if anyone receive result for 2023 Y9 entry for Eton college ? My Son has interview in February (first tranche)

An older boy in my DS’s school recommended the ‘lumosity’ website, but DS said it wasn’t at all relevant. We did some debating with him & kept up harder maths (his advice is stick to maths). I’m told no one has ever finished the Eton exam, so tell your DS when he doesn’t that that’s normal. Sorry I can’t help more.

Elegante · 13/10/2021 22:54

@DoMyBest,

Many thanks .
My son sat the eton list exam last month and his feedback was same as yours; entirely different, can’t be really prepared for and tests innate intelligence, so we are just having our fingers crossed and hoping for the best .
Very best wishes to your DS too.

HappyMom2009 · 14/10/2021 02:08

Same here. I let him do atom learning Eton list test , but he told me it’s totally different and can’t be prepared 😃good luck to you all. And please update here if you hear any news

DoMyBest · 22/10/2021 16:31

How did it all go in the end?

BilboBagginsoftheShire · 23/10/2021 09:59

We've been waitlisted so still need to do the waiting game

HappyMom2009 · 23/10/2021 10:19

Same here. So they need to take test and interview again in summer ? Anyone knows what’s the test about ?

So now leaving 150 boys interviewing for 50-70+ Places?

DoMyBest · 23/10/2021 10:43

If Eton’s your first choice it can’t hurt to remind them of that: friends of ours whose son was waitlisted did that (a lot!) & DS got in the term before he started. It can take a nearly 2 years for some but the list moves.

Elegante · 23/10/2021 13:17

We are also told we on the waiting list . I read the long email and couldn’t make up my mind what it actually meant in terms of prospects since they also suggested to look at other schools . I have accepted the waiting list place anyway fingers crossed 🤞🏻. I think I now need to be clear on what they are testing them on , when , the past chances i.e how many get picked from the waiting list in the past etc . For us all on the waiting list I can only wish us good luck .

BilboBagginsoftheShire · 24/10/2021 00:47

Ouch, term before they start is late to find out. What did they do about the other school?

stooshmum · 24/10/2021 17:01

Hi all, my son has also been offered a place on the waiting list. The competition is so close, it’s a bit heartbreaking to watch as a mum. He’s very fortunate to have a couple of offers from other very lovely schools, and one I particularly like and think he will thrive in. But, Eton is my son’s first choice and he wants to keep trying.

TonTonMacoute · 26/10/2021 23:02

It was a while ago now, but my DS was put on the waiting list, and he got a place and so did one of his friends in his house.

It does happen but it can take a while so you have to hold your nerve.

MattewTheBigCat · 30/10/2021 17:38

My son is on the waiting list for 2022. He got the waiting list test last Summer but he was not promoted (though they promoted 50 some boys from the waiting list). So my DS is now on the top band of 40 out of the remaining 100+ boys Confused.. To me 40 in the top band seems too many though the letter said he would be a very strong candidate to be promoted when some withdrawals occur. I appreciate if anyone can give me advice. at this point, I don't know what to do except my DS will do very well on the Autum term exam(Mock CE).

HappyMom2009 · 30/10/2021 17:53

Good luck to your son on the coming CE. Hope somone can answer your queries. May I know if they do interview and Eton list test again for Y7 summer assessment for the waiting list pool?

MattewTheBigCat · 30/10/2021 20:34

Thank you. Yes, in July all the waitlisted boys took the same type of computerized test and an interview. They originally said 40 would be promoted after the test/interview but there turned out to be +50 promotion. I wonder if the increased promotion in this stage was due to changes on some family's economic situation due to Covid..

HappyMom2009 · 31/10/2021 00:54

Thanks for your infomation. I expect prob after Jan/feb there will be another batch of boys being promoted also. Good luck and all the best.

HidingInACupboard · 02/11/2021 18:30

Hi there! Can anyone give any insight into the list test and what it was comprised of? Also now that you can look back what was useful preparation for your son?
Thank you!!

stooshmum · 02/11/2021 18:45

I think the beauty of the test is that it cannot be prepared for.

Also, I don't think giving any information would be allowed or fair.

HidingInACupboard · 04/11/2021 22:31

Totally fair point - I wasn’t requesting or expecting specific questions however, I was asking more about subject matter. Is it the usual maths, English, NVR and VR set up or not? Is there a creative writing element? How much time was given?

Windowblind · 25/08/2022 14:25

Hi yes we have just received

Windowblind · 25/08/2022 14:26

My son got an offer
he said it was totally unlike any other prep for any school
we came off the wait list
what houses do people recommend

Windowblind · 25/08/2022 14:27

What Eton houses to others recommend

Windowblind · 25/08/2022 14:28

I’ve heard the eat out houses are much better and the food in the eat in houses has really gone down since the pandemic

Windowblind · 25/08/2022 14:29

Eton housemaster advice please

DoMyBest · 25/08/2022 16:25

Every Eton parent says this (and feel free to ignore my saying it as DS doesn’t even start until Sept & his brother 2023) but I’d let Eton recommend 3 houses then just request the one which you found was the best fit. Ignore, if you can, what people say about each house (‘that house isn’t sporty, that one is, that one’s nerdy, that one’s cool, that one’s where all the prime ministers went’, that one has the best food’ etc) as most of the time they’re just wrong. Plus, if you find a house that ‘feels’ right (rather than ticks lots of boxes), it’s more likely that the housemaster will think your son is the right fit too - so you’re more likely to get your first choice.

Windowblind · 25/08/2022 17:38

Thank you so much
Great advice
I have heard generally that eat out is much better now since the pandemic
Apparently eat in houses very restricted and still doing packaged food eg wraps for meals
Also the small kitchens still closed in some which affects sporty boys
My son plays a lot of football so little bit worried if no access to a fridge for milk and cereal toast etc
