So Scottish kids won’t sit GCSE equivalent next year. Will England follow?

So the Scottish government have announced this today. Saying it wouldn’t be fair after all they’ve been through. So they’ll now be assessed with a mixture of CAGS and coursework. Will Gavin Williamson follow? My Y11 DD has not only missed the summer term but is now midway through a 2wk isolation. How many more times will that happen before the spring? Announcing this now allows for a smooth process with adequate moderation.

@nancy75, but in theory, kids will have covered the content for maths and English too so why bother assessing them at all if the only point is because the subject matter is an important life skill?
All the kids we know that DD is friends with are doing all 3 sciences so I don’t think it’s as unusual as you think.

Not that any of that matters. The point is, Y11s across the country are in limbo. They’ve missed a huge amount of teaching time and many are now missing more blocks of 2 weeks. That’s before we consider the huge disparity they’ll be between those who were lucky enough to get any schooling last term and those who had close to none. Government need to step up and make a decision so our kids and their teachers know what needs to be done this year.
