Trinity/Whitgift 2021 entry

I have found the previous threads for Trinity/Whitgift entry really helpful, and I don’t think there is a 2021 yet. My son will be trying for 10+, and for a sports scholarship. He is bright, and pleased to be back training for his sports, but he gets really stressed in exam situations and works slowly. He is only trying Trinity this year because he is not at all sure he wants to leave his primary school, but if he managed to get a scholarship I think he might decide to go.

I was hoping the activity on the exam day might help motivate him, but we got the email saying it wouldn’t be happening because of Covid. Can I ask if anyone had more success at 11+ than 10+? Do they ever offer academic and sports scholarships? I am assuming that we will more have the issue of him getting stressed in the exam, and not passing, than standing a chance of a scholarship, but just thinking of best possible scenario Wink. Thanks!

Tired of over-thinking here! Confused Regarding 10+ waiting lists, could someone please share their experience with W10+ waiting list? I can see movement in T10+ this and previous years, but nothing on W. Is it because it never moves? Thank yoi

Lovestodance2 · 19/02/2021 10:05

@westdulwichmum same here! We are on the Trinity 10+ waitlist and wondering if/when we might hear. Sorry can’t help with whitgift, haven’t heard of any I know turning a place down there.

@Joyofthree my son has a bursary. We were offered the provisional amount along with the offer in February but had to resubmit information in May, which was a bit of a pain. We received the final bursary offer in July. We know we have to resubmit information every year but at least we know what it is expected now. Congratulations to all who received offers. We are so glad our son has the opportunity

I think there will be a lot of movement after National Offer Day.

We now don't think we can afford private but feel we have to wait until National Offer Day. This is because if we get no good state school we will sell our house or something to afford private.

I know many other people who will not choose independent due to the economic uncertainty.

westdulwichmum good morning, went through the 10+ in 2019, my DS2 got an offer from Whitgift (was not on w/l). However, few parents I personally know where their DS was put on the waitlist, didn’t get in. That year was an unusual year, an extra 100 ish boys sat the 10+ this is on top of the normal 180 ish that sit. Therefore more offers excepted and it didn’t reach the w/list for 2019.

Last year 2020, W were careful when making offers and again they got the numbers required and didn’t offer anyone from the w/list, so no movement.

Haven’t got any info regards this year......though this year you can’t compare to other years. So anyone who has been waitlisted, I do hope that it will move. There is no reason why you can’t speak to admissions and see if there has been any movement and ask if they could give you a rough idea where you DS is on the w/l.
I’m afraid no experience or knowledge of waitlist for Trinty, DS1 got offer from both W and T, and DS2 only sat W.
With the 10+ there is no reason for parents to wait in accepting or declining a offer, unless they are undecided. In the past this was slow but only because parents wanted to view the schools again before making that final decision. However can’t visit schools. Regards the 11+ if movement is slow, more likely waiting for offers day.
Fingers crossed for anyone who is waiting for movement on both W and T..........good luck to you and your DS.

We have turned a place down at W

Teacakes100 · 22/02/2021 11:33

@Mayday1990 thanks for posting and for the info! could I please ask is that for W 10+ or W 11+ ?

scubadiver123 · 22/02/2021 12:49

DS got places offered in both W &T for 10+.
We would be taking up W & declining T.

Many thanks for all your posts on this thread. I found them incredibly useful.

Mayday1990 · 22/02/2021 14:07

It was for the 10+

Croydonmum3 · 25/02/2021 11:48

Does anyone know if T or W are doing online Q and A sessions like some other independents have (for those with offers)? We have an offer for W but haven't heard anything after that, just wanted to make sure we haven't missed anything? Good luck to all those still deciding which place to take and those on waiting lists too.

MrsHGWells · 25/02/2021 12:14

@Croydonmum3 Trinity is running one, Whitgift have been impressively silent, inundated with

Goingcrazy101 · 25/02/2021 14:35

Yes Trinity is running one - emails went out about it on Monday.

Teacakes100 · 25/02/2021 14:51

@MrsHGWells thanks for posting, you seem not to have completed your sentence....’inundated with...’ Your opinion on why W have been silent may be relevant to many on here, do you think you could post again please?

scubadiver123 · 25/02/2021 15:29

Last week, we got a email from Whitgift to book a session with the headmaster and fellow student if we have any questions. We booked one with the headmaster this week and it was very helpful. Trinity is doing a group session tomorrow.

Croydon46 · 25/02/2021 21:40

We have turned down a 10+ at Whitgift yesterday. Just mentioning incase anyone need to know about waiting list movement

Croydon46 · 25/02/2021 21:40

I do hope it helps a waiting list boy.

DonGray · 25/02/2021 22:31

Nothing from W here but we already have a boy there

Lovestodance2 · 01/03/2021 17:43

Has anyone on waitlist heard anything from T or W?

Croydonmum3 · 01/03/2021 18:07

No but I did ring today and was told to just keep waiting! They are very lovely staff as I’ve rung 3 times already and they haven’t told us to go away yet;) hope there will be movement soon!

Teacakes100 · 01/03/2021 18:55

We were told it was 13+ deadline for accepting places today, so they would have been busy with that today and will move on to 11+ during the rest of the week...

Lovestodance2 · 01/03/2021 19:04

@Croydonmum3 thanks for update...Going crazy here!

Lovestodance2 · 01/03/2021 19:14

@Teacakes100 sure they are very busy at the moment, I’m thinking we might not hear till the deadline on Friday 😬

WombatChocolate · 01/03/2021 19:44

People got their state school offers today at 5pm. Some will give up their independent places in the next few days. There should be movement by the end of the week.

hopefulone1 · 02/03/2021 06:10

Hi all - we are giving up our T place today - hope this helps someone on the waiting list

Croydonmum3 · 02/03/2021 10:44

Thank you @hopefulone1!! Hope you got the school you wanted for your DS:)
