Trinity/Whitgift 2021 entry

I have found the previous threads for Trinity/Whitgift entry really helpful, and I don’t think there is a 2021 yet. My son will be trying for 10+, and for a sports scholarship. He is bright, and pleased to be back training for his sports, but he gets really stressed in exam situations and works slowly. He is only trying Trinity this year because he is not at all sure he wants to leave his primary school, but if he managed to get a scholarship I think he might decide to go.

I was hoping the activity on the exam day might help motivate him, but we got the email saying it wouldn’t be happening because of Covid. Can I ask if anyone had more success at 11+ than 10+? Do they ever offer academic and sports scholarships? I am assuming that we will more have the issue of him getting stressed in the exam, and not passing, than standing a chance of a scholarship, but just thinking of best possible scenario Wink. Thanks!

Hi @Onvacation - there are def lots of boys from Beckenham and Bromley. I don’t know if there is an official buddy system tbh as we come from the opposite side.
He will see other Trinity boys for sure. As said above - they get used to it all surprisingly quickly. The school is very helpful in this regard - I think they’ll be in touch about bus routes and buddies etc

Onvacation · 14/02/2021 21:18

Thanks @Goingcrazy101 and @Seeline. I thought I’d seen a discussion about travel buddies above but must have got it wrong. I will check with the school. We can always use the coach to begin with if we need to 😊 I’ll talk to the school though. There maybe other boys nearby travelling via the same route.

Hi @Onvacation - there is def a travel buddy system from Clapham Junction - I may have heard of one from Wimbledon as well on the tram.
Tbc - DS1 has never used the buddy system as he’s always had boys from his own year to travel with.
There are plenty Smile

Goingcrazy101 · 15/02/2021 11:43

That should have said tbh not tbc!Grin

mahlab · 15/02/2021 13:27

@onvacation, we'd also be travelling to Trinity from beckenham. Feel free to PM me

GinT · 15/02/2021 17:51

Congratulations and well done to everyone who has got the offer of your preferred school.
We have accepted the 10+ place at W today. It was an easy decision since W was the only school we applied this time.
And it was really helpful and reassuring to read the discussion here in regards to travelling to school.
My son will be travelling from Cheam/Sutton from September, so just want to check if anyone else will be on the same route? Please feel free to PM me. Thank you very much.

Hi, I would like to ask a question about scholarships at Whitgift, please? If we have been unsuccessful at the entrance exam point, can we still apply scholarships ( e.g. music or academic) in the future while attending school? Thank you.

Do many boys take the 367 bus from Bromley to trinity (our ds would be getting on at shortlands) - new year 7.
Trying to decide between that and School minibus
Thanks

Hi bexbrom, we are planning on the 119 from Hayes road if helps at all? Son is currently at Scott's park....
Bexbrom · 16/02/2021 09:32

Thanks - will look at 119 route too. Great to know other local boys starting in September.

sandyandmandy · 16/02/2021 09:56

Anyone going to Trinity on the Belmont bus from September? Please DM me if you are. Maybe we can do a socially-distanced meet-up over the summer Grin

Iamsodone · 16/02/2021 11:00

Trinity normally organise a chaperone service for the newbies, by pairing them with a sixth formers for travelling. It's free and an optional for the first few weeks.
Great way to meet other local kids.

ElonanotAlone · 16/02/2021 11:48

@GinT. FWIW T and W advised scholarship is only accessed /offered at exam process. T advised they allocate scholarship where they percieve greatest need ( ie postcode) and there is not alot of actual schooling difference ot access to training first few years.
W recruit in upper years & offer scholarships for talent they want. So not completely off the cards if your DS has a strong emerging talent.

Seeline · 16/02/2021 12:08

Not an expert on scholarships/burseries, but fairly certain that T awards scholarships on basis of ability, nothing to do with financial status of the student. I have never heard of the postcode being taken into account. Burseries are awarded on the basis of family income.

mahlab · 16/02/2021 14:42

Yes, we'd be taking the 367!

Walkingtheplank · 16/02/2021 16:18

Bursaries are means tested based on parental income and assets and are reviewed each year.
Scholarships are based on ability, potential.
Both are awarded at the same time as the offers in February.

Goingcrazy101 · 16/02/2021 17:55

As far as I’m aware scholarships are only awarded at point of entry - def not based on post code - that may be bursaries but again I think these are means tested not based on post code.

GinT · 16/02/2021 18:46

Thank you for answering my question about scholarship. @EnolanotAlone

Lovestodance2 · 16/02/2021 18:49

Anyone else on the 10+ waiting list for Trinity?

Bexbrom · 17/02/2021 07:07
Smile
Iamsodone · 17/02/2021 07:58

@GinT
the scholarship at T are purely ability-based (and a reflection of desirability at that point in time)

The postcode does not come into the equation at all.
It may possibly for bursaries though.

Unicorns4ever · 17/02/2021 10:02

Hi all. Would anyone be able to let me know what’s in the offer letter please? As in is there any information about stuff they need / dates for anything etc? We still haven’t received ours and I’m kind of curious :) (we haven’t had post for 2 weeks so no surprise)

Bexbrom · 17/02/2021 10:46

We only received ours last night - snail mail.
Nothing much in it - just an accept / decline reply. Deadline 5th March . Short letter to DS too.

Unicorns4ever · 17/02/2021 17:19

Thank you @Bexbrom! I may wait a week or so and ask them to resend. I’m sure my son would love the little note

Joyofthree · 18/02/2021 07:53

Hi does anyone know what is a provisional bursary award? What this mean?
