Once upon a time there was a group of year 11 students who had spent the last few years preparing to sit their GCSE exams in the summer of 2020. Then one day they woke up and found themselves as characters in a real life disaster movie and as if by magic the exams disappeared.

What lies next for the Corona Cohort?!

Ofqual press release:

Students understandably want reassurance, and teachers urgently need to know what to do, and when. We expect to publish detailed information about the process and timetable which will apply this summer next week. This will include the steps we would like teachers to follow and more detailed guidance on how to consider the full range of evidence they will have available when submitting their assessment grades. We are talking to teaching representatives to make sure that what we are planning is manageable and appropriate, so that students, parents, carers and teachers can have confidence in the approach

*We will outline by Easter the process we will follow to make sure grades are fair across schools and colleges, as well as our proposals for appeals. We will also say more as soon as possible about the arrangements for additional exams in the new academic year.

We want to reassure students waiting for news that we are doing everything we can to make sure they are not disadvantaged by these unprecedented circumstances*

So are other year 11s working hard and doing the set work, or lying in bed texting their friends? Mine is in the latter camp.

I did a post on the old thread before it closed saying that he is currently very resistant to any school work...I am letting things go over the next week or so but really want to get him to focus a bit post Easter. I am trying to encourage him to at least keep up with his A level subjects and school have posted a few things that will help them keep things ticking over but I need to pick my moment to try and get him to actually DO any of it.

My DS and I had an email from the deputy head prompting Yr11 to log into Google classroom and complete the work being set. This is to help teachers assess grades more accurately. It seems to have switched DS back on a bit, although he is on xbox in between "lessons".

Thanks for the new thread. Mine is completing some BTEC coursework and keeping maths, English and hopeful A level subjects ticking over with work set by school.

My DS's school hasn't set any work for Y11.

My DD is following her usual timetable- which is now online- and doing whatever work has been set by her subject teachers
Apart from PE which she loathes!
I’m happy that she has some structure to her days for this week when she would have been in school

DS out of bed and gaming but books are open and I think something happens in between plus I have made him made him ‘exercise ‘ as we are very lucky and someone gave us a treadmill recently (I think he hates me!) .He is supposed to be making me a website but not holding my breath as still a bit short of it.

Fern I can see a well timed email could kick start things again.

Mine watched Pan's Labyrinth yesterday and has Motorcycle Diaries on the agenda. For no particular reason he is reading Frankenstein. Think he has read all his other books!

Apart from that, it's endless Impractical Jokers, Frazier, SpongeBob and Fawlty Towers.

Took DD and a two friends to see a fabulous theatre production of Frankenstein from a feminist perspective.

Oh , yes, I heard about that!

We went to see that as well. DS (who is/was studying Frankenstein as one of his English Lit set texts) complained that it deviated too much from the original. I found it interesting anyway.

DD has no work set from school. They’ve been pretty much cast adrift. They only got their mocks results this week as well and DD’s were shocking so a bit more contact from the school would be reassuring.

DS has been set work but isn’t doing it. I am working full time (albeit from home) and don’t have the energy to try and force him into it.

He has been learning songs, recording them and putting them on Instagram.

I am swaying between dispair and hoping it will be Ok. And that’s before I worry about any of us or anyone I care about getting ill.

Need to try and work on how I’m feeling. I am feeling very hemmed in at the moment which really isn’t helping me!
