Reeds 11+

Anyone's DS take the 11+ at Reeds on Tuesday? I would be nice to know when people start hearing results! I know on the letter it says results posted on 30th, but I'm fairly sure we heard earlier than that when our eldest took the test!

Thank you. So St George's similar level to Epsom? And Hampton and KGS above those? Would be great to know an order of highest needed to lowest in the SW region. My son managed to get into Hampton 10 plus but we will sit 11 + for scholarship so interested to know the difficulty also of others as we will try a few.

@lolo99 , congrats to your ds but you need to do more research. Hampton 10plus indicates your ds would do well at a grammar school so you should consider Tiffin or a Sutton grammar rather than more private schools. The fees at Reeds, Epsom and St John's are greater than Hampton from year 9 and the scholarships at all these schools are 5-20 % max, they aren't going to make a big difference - 5% at St John's barely covers the school bus. St George's did use to have a large academic scholarship so you should check if they still offer it. Schools like Claremont Fan shouldn't be considered because your ds won't be stretched. Finally you should speak to Hampton re the bursary fund.
Did your ds try for KGS 10plus too? Otherwise their academic scholarship allocations seem quite difficult to navigate. You have to be invited to sit the exam if you haven't got a place via 10plus.

Some boys don't take up the 10plus in the end but it's usually because they go to grammar schools or other independent schools of a similar academic level to Hampton.
If you need a bursary then it's a bit different but worth talking to Hampton.

Yes it looks like we probably will need some sort of fee assistance and so I think we should look at a range of schools just incase.

Does anyone know anything about difficulty of entrance exam for latymer and Emanuel also?

Emanuel is a bit of an unknown at the moment- some DCs don't get in and get in St Paul's and others get in there and nowhere else! A gamble.
LU- roughly on a par with Hampton although again, some boys will get in one and not the other. And they're competing with girls at LU so can be tougher as on average girls tend to do better at 11plus!

My worry with the grammars is they require a different exam prep I heard? Is this true? Eg: Tiffin / Sutton are a particular style that independents don’t do. Please do advise

@lolo99 , I won't comment after this as this thread is about Reeds but you need to find someone who has gone through the grammar entrance exam process recently and get some advice. Your ds is quite capable of getting into a grammar school because he has the intelligence to pass the 10plus. There is a website called elevenplusexams.co.uk with a forum and Surrey section. Also go back and speak to Hampton about financial help. The last thing you should be doing is registering for more private schools on the hope of a small scholarship.

Any ds getting the train to Reeds from Guildford for Y7 in September? Just a bit worried about the walk from Oxshott station. Any advice from existing parents? Thanks

Hi, my DS got offer from Reed's and other schools and we now narrow down our choices between Reed's and St John's. DS is not sporty but he plays tennis (as leisure) that's why he likes Reed's that has a tennis academy. But he also prefers mixed school than single sex school. Any Reed's existing parents can give some comments on doing tennis at Reed's? How many sports do a year 7 boys do? Thanks!

Reeds parent here . Far fewer boys live in the Guildford direction but still lots of boys on the train that goes into Oxshott at 8am. More boys taking train rather than bus as the massive 2 year roadworks on A3/M25 means the bus is often late. You will get a spreadsheet with contact details and where the year 7 boys live so you can find a train buddy. The boys do keep an eye out for the year 7 boys at the start of term going through the woods.

I have a non sporty boy and he and we love Reeds. It’s hard to find a parent that doesnt and I have kids at the academic Guildford schools and Reeds outshines them particularly pastorally.

Tennis open to all not just the academy boys. Tennis every Saturday for those boys not playing a team match. Lunch/after school tennis clubs open to all.
