I've read through lots of chat re 2019 but can't see a 2020 10/11+ 2020 thread. How are your DS's getting on?

OP posts:
eagle92 · 14/01/2020 10:37

this was for Whitgift

PopGoesTheWeaz · 14/01/2020 10:47

We've just received a blanket "you will be invited to interview in the next two weeks" email from T which is great news. The email says to expect a phone call in the next two weeks to arrange the date.

We are hoping for academic scholarship for DS so I hope that blanket email isn't a sign that DS isn't in the running for one. He's been invited to the assessment at W but he said that test was quite a bit easier (which I take to mean it was easier for him on that day rather than an easier test in general, if you know what I mean.)

I've read weekday interview at T is a better sign than weekend, but is it true that with T and DC they dont' tell you if you're being considered for academic scholarship, you just find out with your (fingers crossed) offer?

Hopefulmum72 · 14/01/2020 11:07

We just received the email too but unfortunatly is a no email.... Whitgift it is! Hoping interview goes well tomorrow...

Good luck everyone!

eagle92 · 14/01/2020 11:09

Hopefulmum72- so did you get a no from T but a yes from W?

JustJuice187 · 14/01/2020 11:23

Can I just ask - are the people who got emails 11plus or 10plus?
TIA

Hopefulmum72 · 14/01/2020 11:27

@eagle92 yes, No from T and an interview from W.... My DS was very nervous on the T day. He really wanted T as he really likes it there, that made him feel even more under pressure. At Whitgift it was just another exam....To see how exam nerves play such a big part....

@Justjuice187, the emails were as far as I know for 11+

eagle92 · 14/01/2020 11:29

@Hopefulmum72 my son too really wanted T but unfortunately got a no today :( He did say at the time that he found the T exams more difficult. Waiting to hear from W now...

jasmine372 · 14/01/2020 11:31

Argggh has anyone doing 10plus heard anything from either school ?

Adaryn · 14/01/2020 11:34

Nope, still not heard anything from either.

JustJuice187 · 14/01/2020 11:35

Definitely too soon for 10plus

Hopefulmum72 · 14/01/2020 11:38

And well done @PopGoesTheWeaz' DS!

PopGoesTheWeaz · 14/01/2020 11:45

Thanks Hopefulmum72, and well done for DS too. The more I interact with W the more I like them. I'm not sure if everyone received it but one of the emails we had from them had attached a really comprehensive email re Junior Years Curriculum and it all seems so considered. .

chalkyc2 · 14/01/2020 12:18

Hi - we have had the same email as @PopGoesTheWeaz from T - an interview hurrah! Now I need dates!

Jeezimacasalinga · 14/01/2020 12:46

Had a yes email from Trinity too, very pleased as my DS thought it was trickier than the Whitgift exam. Whitgift interview tomorrow, i'll report back on the format...

Hopefulmum72 · 14/01/2020 13:23

Well done all! Smile

Delices · 14/01/2020 13:40

No news from whitgift here feeling frustrated

eagle92 · 14/01/2020 13:44

@Delices - same and it's killing me!

Birdey77 · 14/01/2020 13:48

We have not heard back from Whitgift either, but if it helps, we had interviews and at Trinity today and was told DS was firmly in 'scholarship territory'. So would be hugely surprised if he wasn't called for interview at Whitgift. I guess it's just a strange order they are contacting people in...so I would not worry if you have not heard.

eagle92 · 14/01/2020 13:49

@Birdey77 - thank you, that is reassuring although I wonder if people have heard re Whitgift rejections

Croy23XP · 14/01/2020 13:58

We have just received an email from Whitgift for a 10plus interview so hopefully everyone will start hearing very soon. Good luck all.

eagle92 · 14/01/2020 14:00

Thank you @Croy23XP and congratulations!

rakushka04 · 14/01/2020 14:17

I am very surprised to see that T has inviting for the interviews or sending rejections now as there is an exam for 11+ tomorrow too. If they have already made up their minds based on original date then what's the point of offering alternative date and kids sitting it for nothing. Very strange.

enterparentone · 14/01/2020 14:35

@rakushka04 I don't see how it affects boys still to sit exams as they could also be offered interviews. No places are being offered yet (and they have flexibility there too).

PopGoesTheWeaz · 14/01/2020 14:46

They've invited the boys they think they may want to accept or waitlist who took the test last week. And after they've graded tomorrows boys, they'll invite the boys they think are worth interviewing from that group too. There is not a fixed number of slots (though I imagine they have a sense of numbers, and can extrapolate from the ratio that "passed" last week as to roughly how many they will want to bring back from the next group). Some years they may interview 140 boys and others 155.

They certainly aren't having boys sit the exam for no reason. Who would that benefit???

jasmine372 · 14/01/2020 15:27

Out of interest how much notice is being given for the interviews ( the ones that have been given dates so far ?). I work so can’t drop everything if called just the day before !
