I've read through lots of chat re 2019 but can't see a 2020 10/11+ 2020 thread. How are your DS's getting on?

OP posts:
PiedImperial · 07/02/2020 12:33

Lulu i think they send forms with the offer (or maybe after you've accepted) about music lessons, and ask then if you want to learn in school or not.

Frazzledmom · 07/02/2020 13:46

Great to know @PiedImperial...

7 more sleeps....

Hampton1 · 07/02/2020 14:23

Does anyone know how they will tell us the results?

Is it definitely a letter posted or could it come in an email? They states offers posted on 13th Feb but much of their other correspondence has come email even if followed up by a paper letter.

KandCa · 07/02/2020 14:40

I believe them all to be posted.... at least that is what they say on the Admission sites... even if it is a no offer letter...hence the relevance of the mail man big or small package.... Grin

LuluBellLondon · 07/02/2020 15:33

Thanks @PiedImperial - much appreciated!

turboturtle · 08/02/2020 12:23

@Hampton1, Yes they are all posted as @KandCa mentioned.
What I have heard is that the heads from your son's outgoing school may know a few days earlier, but I don't know if that is down to personal relationships which the schools may have with each other.

Frazzledmom · 08/02/2020 12:46

@turboturtle, I assume that's at 11plus? Or would that also happen at 10plus?

turboturtle · 08/02/2020 13:00

@Frazzledmom, 10+, 11+ and 13+ are all posted on the same day, so I assume it would be the same for all, but the cases I heard about was for 11+

chalkyc2 · 08/02/2020 13:15

It coming by post gives me anxiety! What if it doesn't come?! What if the postie messes up (only today we got a letter for the same house number in the next street!)?!

Yey22 · 08/02/2020 13:34

You can call the school if you haven’t received the post by the afternoon.

Good luck all. The wait is the worst

Xxx

DDAYDOG · 08/02/2020 14:30

Hi everyone - new to this thread so hi! and really hoping someone can help out!

W is our standout top choice. The other choices are not in the area as we are in Surrey. DS got an interview for W and I think it went ok. We were interviewed as well! Lovely lady and I think that went well.

So now I have nothing to go on. DS's current school doesn't have too much of a relationship with W so I have no idea what the ball park offer rate is from interviews. At Hampton I believe it's 50/50 but no idea for W! Anyone have the inside scoop on this?

Thank you!

:)

Aquasw · 08/02/2020 15:02

I heard 50/ 50 but can't vouch for it. I think better not to know or dwell on it really!! I am trying to factor in that we applied to lots of schools and only need the one offer! I guess lots have done that too. I really cannot wait till next Friday. I also don't know when the post arrives as never needed to know before!

DDAYDOG · 08/02/2020 15:24

Thank you Aquasw!

Applefish · 08/02/2020 18:11

Hi all with a DS who sat or previously sat 10+.....if you don't get the offer you want, what are your tentative plans? My DS is adamant he is not going to try again next year. I'm trying to think flexibly and hope that it's just his tiredness talking, which is understandable! I wondered what others thought? For those who started exam prep again how long of a break did you take and how amenable was your DS to go through it again second time round?

KandCa · 08/02/2020 18:47

Applefish try to get him focused on what he can achieve as opposed to the amount of work/ex stress he has to endure....and give him a break now... In a few months time it will be a long distance memory...

Frazzledmom · 08/02/2020 19:08

I have to agree with @KandCa, I'd focus on what he CAN achieve and not on the mountain of work to be done. It's not something I want to think about tbh....sigh....

The 11+ is so competitive, knowing that he passed both exams for T and W gives me hope that with some additional prep he'll be ready for the exams in September....I'm unlikely to keep up any work beyond September, it'll just be too much...😫😫

Applefish · 08/02/2020 19:50

Thanks both for your advice. It's helpful to have some thoughts about what Plan B might look like, even if for DS it's (currently) off the table.

I am hoping that having been through it once, will be helpful second time round and that the practice/experience of the process has been useful. We initially decided to go for 10+ to avoid lots of stress, DS seemed ready for the move and the challenge of the junior year. However, it definitely has been stressful and this wait is really hard. Think I remember a suggestion of a "Burning the Bond Books Party" after offers day on a previous 10+/11+ thread. It sounds like a good idea!

Mummytrois · 09/02/2020 09:42

Hi All, new to MN, can anyone please tell me how your DS found the 10+ sports assessment at W &T?

KandCa · 09/02/2020 10:31

Well my DS did the 11+ sports assessment and he was well tired at the end... Like I had never seen him before... Now he has over 11 hours of sports a week so quite fit. I believe it is quite demanding but they also make it quite fun! He said he had a great day, but it was a very early night....

chalkyc2 · 09/02/2020 11:25

My DS really enjoyed the T 11+ sports days - I thought it was run really well and having all the coaches in the waiting area at the end to chat to was a nice touch.

KCB1980 · 09/02/2020 21:38

Hi....new on here and wondering what thoughts are on the T interview. Didn’t interview my DS at all, just gave him a maths paper to complete in front of the teacher. This is not what I thought would happen? Assuming that’s not a good sign?

turboturtle · 10/02/2020 07:35

@KCB1980, Was there any explanation or dialogue?
Could it have been that he missed out a page on his entrance test because the pages were stuck together?
The rest of the exam may have been quite promising so they may have realised that something was not quite right on the day.

KCB1980 · 10/02/2020 07:47

@turboturtle there was a brief hello and “tell me a bit about yourself” but that was it. A couple of friends have had similar too. DS was just a bit rattled because we had prepared for an “interview” and that’s not what happened. I suppose there’s no point overthinking things. On Friday we will know 🙈

Mummytrois · 10/02/2020 09:08

Thanks @ KandCa @chalkyc2
