raspberryrippleicecream · 11/06/2019 08:11

DS2 also forgot to write the celebrity piece as a letter!

AQA Higher Maths for us today hoping for a high grade as he would like to do Further Maths.

Hope poorly DC recover quickly and the rest stay healthy.

srilankadreaming · 11/06/2019 08:13

Good luck to all today. It's going to be tough. Ghastly Maths 3 and History 3 closely followed tomorrow by Chemistry. DD has been too stressed to sleep and up since 3.30 am!!! So that bodes well for Maths - weakest subject and History - A level choice.

bizzey - No haven't told DS about the award yet. Thought I had definitely better not until today's maths exam is over. He is feeling enough pressure to do well in it, without the added pressure of feeling he needs to live up to the maths award. Seeing how it goes I might tell him today, but then there is Chemistry tomorrow, and he is going to have his head down on that (despite chemistry being the subject he knows really, really well - I don't know if there is a Chemistry prize, but if there is, that is the subject I would have thought he would get a prize for, if anything). Might be tempted to wait until after Chemistry too - he is less stressed about the geography, it is not an A level choice, although it might need to be the source for one of the additional 8s needed for the dreaded sixth form. He is going to be surprised, and no doubt there will be a whole discussion about why it hasn't gone to X or Y or Z.

I hope you are right, myrtle about the letter/article thing. Like so many DC, English (or for some, maths), is the subject that he struggles with, has no plans to do at A Level, but could bring everything crashing down because of weaknesses in it.
Given what he has said about the exams, it sounds like the English Lit might have gone better than Friday's English lang. I understand that in terms of resits English Lit can count instead of English Lang. I wonder if the dreaded sixth form would take that attitude. ie if he did manage to get a 7 in English Lit but not in English Lang, whether they would they count that.

srilankadreaming · 11/06/2019 08:41

Thanks Soursprout. She has gone in now reasonably calm but dosed up with Paracetamol for a banging headache. We can just hope for a reasonable paper. She is in Higher tier but borderline so it could go anyway. Sorry your DD went through the same last week. Why do girls always seem to stress themselves stupid? All the boys I know doing GCSE are taking it in their stride.

srilankadreaming · 11/06/2019 08:43

Bimkom as I understand it from DD's proposed sixth form, they accept either Lang or Lit as the English GCSE. I don't know if that's nationally or just her local college though.

AGirlHasNoCake · 11/06/2019 08:50

maths. FInal one. I am desperately hoping that DD gets her level 4. SHe missed a huge amount of school before Y8 (looked after child), and so while she can do complex stuff like Trig with ease, sometimes the basics, like percentages, elude her. SHe's had a tutor, has been moved from Higher to foundation, and worked hard, but that level 4 seems to just be out of her reach.

Otherwise we are in the home stretch - chem, geog and physics left for her, DS also has 2x german and 2x further maths.

srilankadreaming · 11/06/2019 08:54

Lets hope for a good paper A girl has no cake. At least its the last one!
Does everyone finish on Friday or are there some poor souls who have more next week?

Foslady · 11/06/2019 09:04

We have more next week (groan!) - I think it’s physics followed by FSMQ (extra maths). Then it’s the mass tidy up of study and bedroom (she’s so looking forward to passing on her study guides to DSS so she never has to see them again!!!

Good luck today everyone! Nothing for us today thankfully, still on chemistry practice for tomorrow.

SilentSister · 11/06/2019 09:56

Day of yesterday and today. Chemistry and "Herman" tomorrow. DD seems exceptionally relaxed, she has just woken up..... and will do a few hours revision today.

Yesterday's low point was going into town for a break, trying on a top she wanted that was horrendous, going for some pyjama's that were out of stock, and trying to get into a shop to try on a dress she liked, only for it to be closed as it was flooded. We then got semi-stuck in the car park due to flooding :-( She was very stroppy after that due to the "waste of time and effort" and missing a couple of hours of revision time. Came home, ordered it all on-line.

NCS was heavily promoted at school but DD just not that kind of person. She didn't do DofE either.

Good luck all for today.

gleegeek · 11/06/2019 11:02

Just picked up dd from aqa higher maths. She is reasonably happy with it. She said the first 3/4 were ok and the last 1/4 was really hard. She has done next to no revision for maths even though she needs at least a 6 to be allowed to do biology a-level Shock It's really frustrating, she's actually good at maths but refuses to work at it and scrapes along getting 5/6/7s but is capable of 7/8/9s! Unfortunately she's had the same boring teacher for 3 years and just can't get any enthusiasm for it. Oh well...
History Weimar this afternoon... 7 to go!!! Chemistry and "Herman" here too tomorrow.
Hope today has been ok for everyone else. Sorry silent for your shopping stresses. It was so wet here yesterday we barely left the house!
Dd has German next week. I think it's really bad planning to only have a few exams still to go. It would have been fairer IMO if they'd put maths next week so everyone finished together. Nearly all of dd's friends finish on Friday and want to party!

Bimkom · 11/06/2019 11:03

DS just texted - "That paper was really hard" and "impossible in the time limit. "Messed up quite a few questions cos I misread the question due to time stress".

Foslady · 11/06/2019 11:10

Let’s juat hope it’s the same for the majority and it has low grade boundaries Bimkom - and that it’s the usual looking on the black side....

pikapikachu · 11/06/2019 11:14

Chemistry and Herman tomorrow here too. Any news from Edexcel maths higher paper?

bizzey · 11/06/2019 11:20

Oh Bimkom..if your ds found it hard ..tthen there is no hope for my ds :)

bizzey · 11/06/2019 11:21

Opps ..that was meant to be sad face .
:((

Bimkom · 11/06/2019 11:26

Yes I texted back saying that - but he is saying yes and no - I think he is saying that he got rattled and made silly mistakes that other people might not have made.

Bimkom · 11/06/2019 11:27

Biggest problem seems to have been that it was simply too long to do in the time frame.
