Hi there, is anyone preparing for the 10+exams on Saturday ? Its all very exciting and nerve wrecking it would be good to hear from mums who already have their children there, is it worth all the stress and money?

montenuit · 18/01/2019 15:58

power cut is geniune - kids sent home, on their website.

sambarnet · 18/01/2019 17:05

Were they not able to send out anymore emails then? My daughters surname begins with G so maybe they just got first emails out before 2nd power cut

nerbek · 18/01/2019 17:10

Does it go by surnames? As we're E not heard anything ... anyone else?
How did your daughter do in all 3 subjects?

OP posts:
rakushka04 · 18/01/2019 17:10

My son's surname starts with C and no email.
Not to mention that the results should have been out a week ago according to their own deadline.

sambarnet · 18/01/2019 17:25

It didn't say how she did. It didn't refer to any of the subjects

nerbek · 18/01/2019 17:26

Sorry I meant how did you daughter think she did?

OP posts:
sambarnet · 18/01/2019 18:35

She came out of the exam happy and felt that she did okay but said that the VR was fairly tricky and some of the maths. She was pleased that the English was multiple choice as she wasn't expecting that. She managed to complete all papers but left out a couple of maths questions and was on the last sentence of her story when they said to put pens down. She had done some VR at home but said that there were a couple of sequences that she'd not come across before.
Does anyone know what the comprehension was? She can't remember the title and it's been bugging me!

nerbek · 18/01/2019 18:48

The comprehension was flying woman yes maths she didn't finish it and VR and English was OK

Thank you

nerbek · 18/01/2019 19:43

I'm just wondering for the 10+ is it a question of passing all 3 subjects

OP posts:
WINONOLONGER · 18/01/2019 19:54

In previous years (obviously could have changed), the KGS 10+ offers go to those that are considered exceptional - ie. scholarship potential. Everyone (that I have known) that got a 10+ offer, was invited back to sit for scholarship (I think around a year later, around the time they'd have been sitting the 11+). Lots of people sit the KGS 10+ as practice for the 11+. Lots will pass the 11+ at KGS that failed the 10+. At the 10+ they really are looking for exceptional children.

MissEleanorLavish · 18/01/2019 20:15

Anyone heard anything further this evening?

dontjudgemummy · 18/01/2019 20:33

Yes, DD has an interview! Not sure which type, however. It's not over yet, though....

Finished the maths - got a few 'easy' questions wrong from what she was saying. Was non committal about comp and essay (rushed the ending as ran out of time) but found the VR ok.

Sorry to those that haven't had good news. Has everyone on here heard yet?

dontjudgemummy · 18/01/2019 20:39

WINONOLONGER do you know how many they will interview at 10+ ??

MissEleanorLavish · 18/01/2019 20:42

Oh well done! When did the email come through?

MissEleanorLavish · 18/01/2019 20:43

Not heard anything!

WINONOLONGER · 18/01/2019 20:47

Sorry, no idea about 10+ interviews. The ones that I know that were interviewed, were all offered to sit for scholarships. They will only offer the really top children for 10+, as they have no idea what will come along the next year at 11+. You really do have to be very clever to get in at this stage. I would imagine anyone that gets to interview stage at 10+ will definitely get in at 11+ (if they don't this time). KGS is a weird one. Children that get LEH and Hampton often don't get KGS and vice versa. I think KGS are looking for a particular kind of child.

Greenleave · 18/01/2019 20:51

Last year 10+ interview was very chilled, only about what books the child was reading and tell the interviewer the activity they like most.

sambarnet · 18/01/2019 20:57

Greenleave, do you know if most children who hadn't interviews were offered a place?

sambarnet · 18/01/2019 20:57

Sorry I mean who had interviews...

Greenleave · 18/01/2019 21:04

We werent told about the numbers interviewed at all and didnt know how many got the place. The scholarship interview this year was super nice and chilled too even it was maths and english interview however the interviewer made it very chilled and relaxing.

sambarnet · 18/01/2019 21:17

Okay, thank you Greenleave.

dontjudgemummy · 18/01/2019 21:27

Thanks WINO and Greenleave

Yes, I've heard KGS is a weird one and very unpredictable, made harder because co ed.

dontjudgemummy · 18/01/2019 21:29
