Is there a thread yet for parents with kids doing entrance exams in Jan? It's been so helpful looking through previous years threads and now we're going through it I'd love a hand-hold and any advice on what to expect!

I wish I'd seen this thread earlier as I've been freaking out about DS 13+ for T and W waiting for results of the exams. If he is invited back for an interview does it mean his chances are high of getting an offer (unless he completely fluffs the interviews obvs). He's got T on friday and w on Monday Confused.

nutellafox · 22/01/2019 22:49

Hi all, DS has finished his 11+ interviews at T and W (yay!) Now the waiting game...does anyone have any insight into the steady decline in W results / league table position vs T? Is there a separate thread on that by any chance? Would be great to read your observations/opinions... if we do have to make a choice, it will be hard, but a nice problem to have!! We love both schools!

turboturtle · 22/01/2019 23:51

MuMama25
You ultimately have to choose the best fit for your DS.
Other than the convenience, what draws you to W as they are 2 different schools with regard to ethos, even though they are part of the same foundation?
Like Seeline, I think that T has the better provision for music.
If my DS was the equivalent to yours but in sport, (academy player, county level athlete), then W would by my first choice without a doubt, as it would be more likely that my DS would have the characteristics that competitive sportspeople have which would see him cope at W.
W is an excellent school and so is T, but if your son loves music, I believe T will nurture and develop that talent more than W. (just my opinion)
Well done to your DS for achieving grade 7 on 2 instruments btw. I wish you well in your final decision.

walkingtheplank · 23/01/2019 13:29

It will be hard for us to decide too if we have more than 1 offer - although currently feels like we won't get 1 at all. One of the schools is a very easy morning commute 30-40 mins door to door via 1 bus while the other is more like an hour on 2 buses that don't connect directly with each other. We much prefer the 2nd school though.

gambaspilpil · 23/01/2019 15:59

I think you need to be careful at getting hung up on league tables as you are times talking about tiny difference across the top schools. I always look at University destinations as a marker and given that W had 26 boys getting Oxbridge spots in 2015 and have had 15 boys offered Oxford this year and awaiting Cambridge results I am not concerned about W at all. You need to choose the school that best suits your DC its as simply as that. I have always loved W and my eldest did well there as did his friends and my DS who is in yr 7 loves it but he is very sporty. Good luck with your choices....thankfully i have a few years before I have to do it for a 4th time!

It’s all gone a little quite here.......

Any heard more on the W/T interview front? If anyone has had any interviews, how have they gone?

enterparentone how did your DS’s interview go yesterday?

Fbgarcia · 24/01/2019 16:04

Jige, I got an email yesterday for next week, finally. Let's hope everything goes well :)

Chelsea3 · 24/01/2019 17:27

Well done to all those who've completed interviews so far. Does anyone know how offers are posted for 10+? I recall date is 14th Feb, but can't remember if it's post or online.

Jige · 24/01/2019 17:31

Fbgarcia well done to your DS for getting this far. That email must have given you some sense of relief. Was that for T or W?

Jige · 24/01/2019 17:37

Chelsea3 offers for 10+ are the same for 11+. They will be posted on the 14th Feb (Thurs) to be received on Fri 15th this year. That’s how T and W normally inform you just before you break-up for half-term.

Chelsea3 · 24/01/2019 17:58

Thank you so much for the update. Let's hope postman brings good news to all. Smile

Jige · 25/01/2019 06:46

Yes Chelsea3 fingers crossed for all!

MuMama25 · 25/01/2019 09:03

Thanks again for all advice. I can’t believe we have to wait 3 weeks now! 😬

MWMmummy · 25/01/2019 09:30

Does anyone know anything about the sports scholarship process? Our DS did the sports scholarship assessment this week but we haven't heard anything further and not been contacted about a recall next week, so I am wondering what this means?

mrsnobble · 25/01/2019 09:44

Can anyone help? How many bursaries are offered at 10+? What about scholarships? Does DS have to be outstanding in all area for scholarship, or if strong in VR but weak in math, could he get one? Very anxious mum here!!!

ivegotacold · 25/01/2019 10:04

mwmummy today is last day for general sports assessments at Whitgift so you may hear about a call back over the weekend but don't be surprised if you don't hear until Monday or even Tuesday if it's cricket or hockey. Call back indicates that they want to look at your ds more closely and usually indicates he is being considered for scholarship although only a small number of call backs will receive scholarship offers.

MWMmummy · 25/01/2019 11:20

Thank you IGAC - we have actually just heard about the hockey recall now. Fingers crossed it goes well for DS and all others attending!

enterparentone · 25/01/2019 11:23

Jige thanks for asking! Hard to tell how DS interview went. He was so nervous he clammed up when the receptionist asked him a question! Hope it wasn't a stealth interview!

3 week wait now begins. Wish it wasn't so long!!!

How many on this board are in the boat for each point of entry?

We are T10+

MotherofPirates · 25/01/2019 11:41

MWMmummy did they call or email? Anxiously waiting for a call back here Sad

HappyMamma · 25/01/2019 12:14

MotherofPirates we just received the call back for Cricket by e mail. Keeping everything crossed you receive an e mail too. They might be staggering the e mails by sport?

Honestly I think I have aged 10 years through this 11+ process ! (and almost broke the refresh button on my e mail !)

MotherofPirates · 25/01/2019 12:17

Thanks so much for that HappyMamma. I'm with you on all of those things!!

MWMmummy · 25/01/2019 12:33

Pirates - like HappyMamma - ours was an email from the admissions team.

MotherofPirates · 25/01/2019 15:55

Thanks MwM. Anyone heard re rugby yet???

walkingtheplank · 25/01/2019 21:57

We haven't had the sports recall from W. To be fair, DS was unhappy both with his over all performance and also with lack of opportunity to demonstrate hockey skills as they didn't play a game. He's not surprised with no callback.

So, we are now done. Yay! Just 3 weeks to go.
