My dd said that she couldn’t even understand some of the questions in the AQA physics paper let alone answer them. This is a student who has worked diligently throughout the years

sandybayley · 15/06/2018 15:36

@mmzz - your post made my so sad. Your poor DS. If it makes you feel and better DS1 and I met up after his exam, he didn't want to meet up with anyone. He helped me with a dump run and we went to the supermarket to get ice creams. If I could I would send him round to hang out with your DS.

TheThirdOfHerName · 15/06/2018 15:39

areyoubeingserviced DS2 also found some of the AQA Physics questions quite difficult to interpret.

He normally finds GCSE Physics straightforward and is hoping to study Physics at university, but he felt that some of today's questions were unclear.

brainmelt · 15/06/2018 15:47

Sost my thoughts for you and for tomorrow.

what to do with all the sew in labels in the sewing kit? mmzz I have been using some leftovers from DH! I got them from MIL. I just cut out the name and leave the surname. So just an idea... keep them for a grandchild?

Bimkom · 15/06/2018 16:00

Lovely to hear how many of you are finished. Congratulations all! And best to all dealing with health issues [I would send flowers but I am not sure I know how to insert icons so Flowers.

I on the other hand, have a weekend of The Trials of Abraham, Ruth, and Jeptath. My job in all this is listen to DS race through the translation and correct him where he goes wrong (and get grumped at if he does get it wrong), and then check he knows the relevant pieces of grammar. As in . cohortative, jussive, passive participle (what I lot I have learnt from this whole exercise).

At least the unseen was not Job!!! It was the golden calf, a bit of Numbers, Samson's parents and Jeremiah and wine apparently. The theme was apparently wine!???! DS was reasonably chipper about it when he came out, much happier than with the mock.

The seen is where he really is hoping to pick up marks though, so it is going to be a very heavy weekend for me (sigh)

But at least we haven't had the intensity that you have all been through, we have been working solidly on it since the mock didn't go so well, but that is all. And it will be finished on Monday. And next year it is DH who is going to have to listen to endless French, my French isn't up to it! And there are even more tenses in French than Biblical Hebrew!

HateIsNotGood · 15/06/2018 16:01

Yahooo and yay - my knicks are so untwisted I might go shopping in them.

It's over, done, finito - ds done well, so, so well - the plethora of exams worked well for him. I'm too happy to explain but I'm very, very pleased.

It's finished and done - yehahooo

Bimkom · 15/06/2018 16:01

Hooray, the flowers worked - meant for all those who are struggling with health issues - Flowers Flowers flowers]

calzone · 15/06/2018 16:40

Physics was hard
Citizenship was boring

4 exams to go......

KingscoteStaff · 15/06/2018 16:59

Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!

Done. Finished. Thank the good lord for that.

Ds and a friend have just been shopping (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) for clothes (!!!!!!!!!) for this evening's party with a Caribbean theme. He is wearing white trousers (hideously rolled up to just above the ankle), a flowery shirt, some truly revolting loafers and NO SOCKS. Shudder...

HesMyLobster · 15/06/2018 17:18

Kings that outfit sounds perfect! I bet he looks brilliant Grin

Oratory1 · 15/06/2018 17:20

Sorry to sombre the tone but we used up all the sew in labels for DMs clothes when she went into a care home - waste not want not !!

EdwinaLIzzard · 15/06/2018 17:53

The end has arrived and it feels a little anti-climatic, DD has gone upstairs to tidy her room, she says she feels strange and a little bit guilty not to be revising.

Love to all those going through difficult times, Always, Eve, Sost
and Alexander's DH

Feedback from AQA Physics Foundation: paper was ok, a little better than Paper 1 and thankfully lots of the stuff she revised last night and in the car this morning came up.

Thinking of all those who have exams next week, you are very nearly there Flowers

AlexanderHamilton · 15/06/2018 17:54

The pizza evening has been cancelled as quite a few are going home tonight so we are just waiting for dd to finish & we are taking her & her best friend out to tea.

mmzz · 15/06/2018 18:35

Did anyone else's DC do Edexcel physics today? What did they think of it?

Nettleskeins · 15/06/2018 18:47

mmzz someone out there is longing for him to call them and arrange something. There will be someone who is equally at a loose end/wants to watch football. Ds2 has just reconnected with someone who he was at primary school with, lives down the road, and they have not managed to be interested in each company for the last 5 years but suddenly, gosh, we have the same interests and actually you aren't such a bad fellow. Ds met one re-connectee recently in MacDonalds's and the other I forced him to put a good luck card for exams through their letter box (and he got a card back with a phone no)

dd has gone off to to Richmond Green to hang out this evening with about 30 girls her age. She said I have to meet her off the bus at 10.00. I'm a bit concerned at the lateness but also I want her to be part of things. It is a quandary. That will unfold further over the summer no doubt..

loved hearing about the Hebrew Bimkom. off to google Juissive and cohortative participles. Was Jeremiah new wine in old pots? It is nice to think how much they have learned doing these Gsces.

goodbyestranger · 15/06/2018 18:47

DD did AQA. She thought it a better than the first paper but then the first paper was one of the ones she knows she didn't do well in, so that's relative.

Nettleskeins · 15/06/2018 18:49

mmzz ds did combined Physics Edexcel. He said it was fine, but he is predicted 5/6, so I'm not sure really whether he understood it fully. Presumably your ds is doing Triple.

Nettleskeins · 15/06/2018 18:58

Bimkom no I was wrong about the new wine, that is later in the NT.

BlueBelle123 · 15/06/2018 19:01

DS did Edexcel physics higher, he thought it was a good paper, some challenging stuff but all doable very similar to first paper.

Petalflowers · 15/06/2018 19:14

Finished!

Trilogy physics today.

I got the standard ‘alright’ answer when asked how,it went.

spababe · 15/06/2018 19:19

mmzz I think your DS and mine are very similar. Mine's been gaming since he got home. We can't even go out as a family to celebrate as my other DS finished A levels and has gone on holiday so we are waiting until he gets back.

Has DS tried inviting friends out for something more their style eg the Solo movie and not football?

mmzz · 15/06/2018 19:22

Nettleskeins and sandybayley I didn't mean to sound like I was trying to invite sympathy for DS! I'm conscious that there are others on this thread who have big troubles that make DS's look so small they aren't worth mentioning. i feel a bit embarrassed that maybe I came across that way.
Right now DS is watching one of the world cup matches (Spain v Portugal, I think) with DH. He's happy right now.

I think the exam went ok this morning. It was the one paper that I was most worried about because if DS doesn't get a 7, then he can't go to the new sixth form and he'll lose the chance to meet new people and make new friends.

He did the sample paper last night and I thought he wasn't going to make it when I saw how much he got wrong. But today, he went to the exam and came out saying that it was no harder than the first paper, and he thinks he did ok on the first one. So, huge relief here because he's got a good chance again!

beenrumbled · 15/06/2018 19:26

DS said AQA physics triple was ok. He said it was very maths focused and he was happier with that as it's his strongest part of physics.

He got his leavers hoodie today and has officially left school, though he has to go back for a statistics revision session on Wednesday and the actual exam on Thursday.

No prom for his school so he has a long summer ahead.

Plans are currently to watch every World Cup match and get up to the cricket club to practise in the nets.

mmzz · 15/06/2018 19:30

spababe The boys DS hangs around with at school all play 5-a-side together, and are quite big football fans. They only invite DS though when they are short on numbers, and more often than not, eve with DS agreeing to come along, it still gets cancelled due to lack of numbers.

Believe it or not, DS says the thing that interests them most right now is Love Island! I'm a bit surprised about that, but there you go! is that a huge male interest thing now??

DS just refuses point black to watch it. I don't know whether I wish he would bend a bit more or not! He likes Friends or Game of Thrones or some Attenborough / Simon Reeve type documentaries.

hmcAsWas · 15/06/2018 19:38

Might only be a male interest for boys that age because there are a lot of scantily clad and glamourous young women?
