So many prom dress suggestions and links - serious thanks. Much much needed haircut and nails booked but the urgency of acquiring a dress suddenly hit me today.

goodbyestranger · 13/06/2018 23:08

Same Sost. Just read that post.

sandybayley · 13/06/2018 23:17

Loving all the prom chat and dresses. DS1 doesn't have one but DD will in a couple of years so I'm taking notes from you all.

Chemistry iGCSE was 'alright' but we experienced a massive strop after supper tonight resulting in door slamming and swearing. I'm actually quite relieved as the calm and pleasant DS1 was a bit weird and unnerving.

@KingscoteStaff - DS1 had cricket nets after Chemistry today and has a match on Friday night with physics to revise all day tomorrow. Should be a good one for DS1 as it's a subject he likes and enjoys. He's really looking forward to the Physics summer class that @TheThirdOfHerName 's DS is doing as well (not at the same tome - that would be a bit spooky).

One thing he is going this summer is to go to an open day at a uni he's interested in. I know it's quite early but he's got the time and DH is taking him so it works for me.

List of summer activities..
Climb Ben Nevis
Uni open day
Family holiday (2 weeks)
Work experience (1 week)
Physics summer school (1 week)
Work experience (1 week)
Rugby pre-season training
Gym (he says he wants to join)
Dog walking

Actually that sounds like a lot 😳 - I may have heard be a bit over board.

TerfTerfTerf · 13/06/2018 23:27

Just been hearing from friend about iGCSE debacle on the Isle of Man - allegedly the wrong text was taught for Eng Lit!

TheThirdOfHerName · 13/06/2018 23:31

There were two posters on one of the prequels to this thread whose DCs were in that position; both DCs had both been taught An Inspector Calls for CIE English Lit when it's not actually one of this year's texts. I don't think they were from the same school.

TheThirdOfHerName · 13/06/2018 23:33

@sandybayley
DS2 is planning to attend three university open days this year: one at the end of June, one in September and one in October.

sandybayley · 13/06/2018 23:36

@TheThirdOfHerName - DS1 is going to one at the end of June as well (Chemistry). Might be the same place? Their paths may be destined to cross!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 13/06/2018 23:43

Well apparently chemistry wasn't too bad in spite of slight lack of revision yesterday.
Perhaps he can do some tomorrow for last one on Friday!

Have been trying to encourage booking for a Uni open day but no luck yet, he thinks it's too early.

TheThirdOfHerName · 13/06/2018 23:43

@sandybayley
If it's on the 27th or 28th then it may well be the same place.
DH & I are going to take him and have a day out. I think the tours of the Physics department are for prospective applicants only, but we can drop him off and come back later.

He has only recently decided he is interested in the course offered by this university.

HesMyLobster · 13/06/2018 23:46

Re: uni open days, my advice would be go to as many as you can as early as you can.

DD1 did a couple early in yr 12 and thought she'd leave the rest until later but most of them seem to be over the same couple of weeks and it was impossible to get to all of them without missing days of school, which just wasn't an option.

So she ended up applying to 2 universities that she'd never seen in cities she'd never been to. (+3 that she had seen)

She ended up visiting one (now her insurance choice) for the first time after receiving an offer, and luckily liked it, but it's not an ideal way round to do things!

TheThirdOfHerName · 13/06/2018 23:51

HesMyLobster
DS1 found that some of the open days he was interested in clashed; they seemed to be scheduled for the same 3 or 4 weekends in the autumn term of Y12.

DS2 wants to visit three this summer/autumn, and has a shortlist of a further four to visit in 2019.

sandybayley · 13/06/2018 23:54

@TheThirdOfHerName - yes same one! Chemistry open days are 27 and 28th though. He's been to look at the 'other' place as well but thinks the course is better at this one. Actually his main criteria seems to be whether there will be lots of cricket available.

AlexanderHamilton · 14/06/2018 00:12

We were in the unusual situation of Dd attending open days in Year 10/11 but I would agree. Go early. Intereviews (in Dds case auditions) took up enough time in the exam year as it was. Attending open days as well would have meant a lot of school missed.

Teenmum60 · 14/06/2018 00:12

DD and I did a Uni open day last year in November - I was hoping the visit would inspire her because she didnt have any firm idea's of what she wanted to do and quite a few people recommended attending an open day and working backwards (find a degree course then ascertain educational requirements).

DD was at that time interested in Interior Design so we looked around all the workshop and facilities and interacted with students and tutors....she found it a bit overwhelming because everyone was so much older than her.

We will probably look to do attend a few open days in the autumn too...DD is attending a Lab day at Warwick Uni in July...its all useful.

An email came through from school about 6th form induction at current school - its only a day but we are away on holiday ...The morning session looked good and included a workshop from a company called Standing Tall UK about building confidence and self esteem which I think may have been good but hopefully they will run the workshop again.

Sostenueto · 14/06/2018 05:17

Morning all! How many posts already? I'm yapping too much!Grin

Teenmum60 · 14/06/2018 06:06

Good luck to everyone doing Spanish or any other exams today ...

No exams for DD today...

HesMyLobster · 14/06/2018 06:56

Woodwork here, but not til this afternoon so at least DD can have a bit of a lie in.

Good luck to all with exams today, happy physics revision to those who don't!

HesMyLobster · 14/06/2018 06:57

Sost are you ok? Your posts last night implies something had happened yesterday?

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 14/06/2018 07:02

Morning all.

Sost hope you are ok Flowers

Just catching up as I was out all day yesterday and couldn't keep up with you all. Dd thought chemistry was quite good I think. Physics revision today plus into school just for one German lesson.

While I remember does anyone know if tassomai will just stop taking my money next month or do I need to remember to cancel?

Teenmum60 · 14/06/2018 07:05

Kick - It only took a proportional payment off me on the 5th (my renewal date) to cover until the exams were completed - I think it was £9 and we had all three courses...so yes it looks like to stops.

BlueBelle123 · 14/06/2018 07:07

Good luck all exam takers for today!

Not sure what time DS is intending to get up but he's planning to do his last ever 4 hours of GCSE revison at some point today!

Second doing Open Days early I did this with DD not only does it help with course choices but type of Uni campus, non-campus, city or out of town.

@adrinkofwater we are off to a uni visit this Saturday (terrible timing) and if he's still keen I will take you up on your kind offer Smile

Hope your OK Sost

beenrumbled · 14/06/2018 07:12

Morning all!

DS has no exams today, but has been told he needs to go into school for an hours revision this afternoon!

Physics tomorrow then Statistics next Thursday, and we are done. I never thought we would get there!

Leavers assembly tomorrow, and they will get their leavers hoodies then too.

We have not been told what is happening in the run up to the Statistics exam yet - he might have to go in for a couple of hours next week too.

Good luck today for this with exams.

beenrumbled · 14/06/2018 07:13

Hope you are ok Sos

BlueBelle123 · 14/06/2018 07:13

All mums with Yr13 DC...

I was going to post on the FE thread but I am sure everyone is totally focused with their DC's A Level exams at the moment.

It would be lovely to hear some tips and advice for DC's going into 6th form when the exam period is over
