Stickerrocks how is your DM?

mmzz · 11/06/2018 23:45

Thanks for that, Noble. Do you happen to know how a 5 is calculated?

OP posts:
noblegiraffe · 11/06/2018 23:53

For untiered papers the 5 will just be equal intervals. For tiered, they look at how students perform on the 20% crossover questions that appear on both tiers and try to set the boundary so that students getting a 5 on either tier did similarly on those questions. It’s a bit of a fudge.

jugglingfromheretothere I was a cornetist/trumpeter too! Best of luck to ds in his pursuit of music!

Thanks mmzz and noble for fantastic info on grade boundaries. Makes for interesting reading, but like others surprised at how many higher grades but understand reason why.Flowers

Sostenueto · 12/06/2018 05:12

Good morning everyone! These light mornings - I can't believe I'm up at this time.

Thanks so much to @noblegiraffe and @mmzz for all the number crunching. It's all great insight into what we can expect.

DS1 (as you would expect is fast asleep). Good news from yesterday is that his work experience is finalised and he's also been asked to do some maths tutoring for a friend's DD. Perfect job for him. He's also said he'd like to join our local gym for the summer. The summer is definitely starting to fall into place now.

beenrumbled · 12/06/2018 06:37

Good morning!

DS was happy with yesterdays biology, and is fatalistic about todays maths.

He has a wake up session before Maths and is currently downstairs staring at a bowl of cereal.

Good luck everyone!

Oratory1 · 12/06/2018 06:39

God luck to those with exams today

BlueBelle123 · 12/06/2018 06:56

@mmzz yes your right I was so Shock at the figures I got a bit carried away........thanks again I've found looking at that link very interesting, grade boundaries now make a lot more sense, never gave them a great deal of thought before......

Stickerrocks · 12/06/2018 06:58

I'm happy with Peggy's choice of name too.

DM is now in the queue for further icky tests, but their local hospital serves a vast area, is fairly dire & unlikely to prioritise her at her age.

Last night DD prioritised wrapping gifts and writing cards for teachers over maths. She got confused at one point and wrapped something she already owns (& has used) for one teacher, rather than the pristine new gift. I think her mind was elsewhere, but she was too stubborn to admit it.

BlueBelle123 · 12/06/2018 06:59

Yes good luck all historians and mathematicians today Smile......as I type DS is on his static bike in the garage peddling like mad to wake himself up Hmm

Cherryburn · 12/06/2018 06:59

Good luck today everyone. No exams for DS today so it'll be hardcore Chemistry revision. When he eventually gets up. I can see he's really very tired now.

chuntersalot · 12/06/2018 07:00

I’ve been lurking around a few of the threads. It’s been great for me as I work away from home so have been outside of the daily angst somewhat.

Our introduction:
DC doing GCSEs - DT1 (DD) DT2 (DS)
Other DC - DS Y9
A Level intentions - DD Latin outside of school. Biology, ?,?
DS - ?,?,?
Current School - Local ‘outstanding’ Academy
6th Form - Current school
SEN - None
Other information- DD is a worker, puts effort in without excuses. She has a strong friendship group who support each other really well. Loves a social life
DS - Sport, sport and more sport. Very little done revision wise. May scrape the grades he needs for 6th Form or may not. Has been in a long term relationship with his Girlfriend for 2 years now. She is part of our lives now and does her best encouragement wise
Last Exam - Physics on Friday

BlueBelle123 · 12/06/2018 07:02

stickerrocks I hope your DM gets those tests sooner that you anticipate and from what you've said of your DD I'm sure she will be 100% focused in her exam.

hmcAsWas · 12/06/2018 07:10

Good luck all examinees today.

On days dd doesn't have an exam, I find it hard to rouse her before 10! Its understandable in a way - if I knew the minute I got up there was a day of revision ahead of me I might also choose to continue sleeping

Cherryburn · 12/06/2018 07:14

Same here hmc! I'll wake DS at 10, but I do think he needs the sleep now. He tends to work till about 7pm (with breaks) so an earlier start would just mean an earlier finish I think.

Stickerrocks · 12/06/2018 07:27

I've been negotiating with DD for her to leave school early now that her next few papers are in the morning. I think she likes the security of staying in school with teachers to hand, but I Don't want to spend my whole day waiting for a text message asking me to collect her. She needs a couple of lie ins, but has 9 o' clock starts each day.

HesMyLobster · 12/06/2018 07:29

Good Luck for maths this morning! 🍀

hmcAsWas · 12/06/2018 07:36

Sounds like a good plan Cherry

cubscout · 12/06/2018 07:40

Good luck for Maths and History today.

Am I on my own finishing on 21 June? I thought a couple of other dc were doing Further Maths! And is anyone doing Food Tech on Thursday?

LooseAtTheSeams · 12/06/2018 07:46

Good luck to everyone with exams today! Just maths for DS, then he can come home and revise chemistry...

calzone · 12/06/2018 07:47

Cubs.....we finish on 21st June too with German......

It’s going on for soooooo long.

Maths and history today.

Come on ds. It’s nearly over and then we can enjoy the summer. 😎😎😎😎☀️☀️☀️

JugglingFromHereToThere · 12/06/2018 07:55

Thanks sostenuto, for good wishes from fellow trumpeter 🎺

I'm sure we've met before on these boards - your name seems very familiar!

Wondering if you have an older DC in same year as my DD ( who's just finishing first year of University) ?

Sorry for my terrible memory!

Cblue · 12/06/2018 07:59

@mmzz & @ noblegiraffe. Thanks for the number crunching, the 9s make sense now (although I am flabbergasted by a few of the %)

Good luck to all DC. Left mine in bed although I don’t expect her to surface for a long while. Only chemistry left to revise for exams tomorrow so a little lay in will do her good.
.......wouldn’t mind a little lay down myself Smile
