Well done to your DS brainmelt... amazing result....does the 98% give him a pass just based on coursework or is it a low percentage component?

brainmelt · 19/04/2018 12:05

I think it counts for around 30% of the mark...? So probably not.

Oratory1 · 19/04/2018 12:56

adrinkofwater snap with RS too. Teacher in year 10 had no clue re the rigours of the new course. They then had a new teacher in year 11 who has tried to cover everything but with one whole topic set for homework over Christmas. They have tried to do the whole course in three lessons per fortnight !!

Teenmum60 · 19/04/2018 12:58

@adrinkofwater I think computer science has been a real nightmare...DD's school spent a whole term on the NEA ...why they could not have treated the NEA like some of the other practicals I dont know (allocate say 7 x 1/2 days slotted into the full timetable which would have allowed for one theory lesson per week to continue)....

I think they have covered 95% of the syllabus and with enough revision using various material DD should be OK.

Not sure whether this site will help anyone www.computerscience.gcse.guru/topics

JufusMum · 19/04/2018 15:32

Brain melt well done to your DS. How do you still have coursework in History? DD doing Geography and it's 100% exam?

TheSecondOfHerName · 19/04/2018 15:33

Welcome to adrinkofwater I also have one in Y13 and one in Y11.

Well done to your DS brainmelt that's a really impressive mark!

BlueBelle123 · 19/04/2018 15:37

Brainmelt excellent result, is that an A level choice?

Jus I imagine its igcse

brainmelt · 19/04/2018 15:52

Yes it's IGCSE. No, not an A level choice at the moment!

LooseAtTheSeams · 19/04/2018 16:32

brainmelt that's a fantastic result - he must be so delighted! StarStarStar

stickerrocks · 19/04/2018 16:45

Mock results back. 2x grade 6, 3x grade 7 and all of the rest grade 8s. I'm so proud of her, as she took these whilst dealing with so many personal issues. Let's hope it spurs her on for the next few weeks.

Meanwhile the staff are spending time with as many of them as possible to check on their emotional well-being, whilst dealing with their own emotions. I can't credit them enough.

That's fantastic Stickerrocks - presumably you would be more than happy with those in August !!

Yes we tend to forget that teachers need to deal with their own sadness as well as support the DC

stickerrocks · 19/04/2018 17:28

Definitely. She's leapt 2 grades for MFL (no oral here til May - hope it goes well for everyone else) & can definitely see that her hard work is paying off.

TheSecondOfHerName · 19/04/2018 17:35

That's brilliant stickerrocks and hopefully really encouraging for her.

BlueBelle123 · 19/04/2018 18:37

Stickerrocks those are fab results, well done your DD, its always the best motivation when you see your hard work rewarded Smile

JufusMum · 19/04/2018 20:48

Two hour meeting with head of year and still no answers. I told him with the schools reputation I am embarrassed that DD is a student there. He just looked very resigned to that fact.
He still doesn't know when the German speaking will be.
I honestly give up.

mmzz · 19/04/2018 20:58

Jufus have you got other DC in the school? Or will you be able to leave it behind in a few weeks time?

Did you find out why they haven't set a date for the orals?

BlueBelle123 · 19/04/2018 21:14

Just bought DS the year book which he wanted but not the leavers hoodie which I'm glad about as I know he'd wear it once and then never again, only have to get prom ticket and then I think we're done! certainly has become a lot more expensive to leave school nowadays (though he's not as staying on at school 6th formSmile)

EllenJanethickerknickers · 19/04/2018 21:40

Some great results from your DC. Well done all, despite some challenging circumstances.

DS is only doing two lots of coursework. Chinese is still A-G so the exam is only 50% or so of the total. The music exam is 60% (used to be 40% when A-G) but they have to have some performing and composing still included.

DS3 hasn't finished computing yet but I think everything else is on to revision now. Not 100% sure as he's at his dad's this weekend. He's taken all his revision guides with him so I can only hope he'll be following his new revision timetable. He's decided to wake up 15 minutes earlier in the morning to fit a half hour session in then. This worked Wednesday but he forgot to set his alarm for this morning! Hmm

stickerrocks · 19/04/2018 22:11

Oh my goodness, Chinese! I had the opportunity to take Russian O level, which was considered tricky, so I didn't. I dread to think how hard Chinese would be.

sticker great results she must be very pleased!

Teenmum60 · 20/04/2018 07:41

Great results stickerrocks

DD and I had a lovely evening in London - meal at Portrait Gallery and then Phantom...very tired this morning.

Good news is that CS teacher is going to run exam question sessions on Thursday lunchtimes (the fact that there are only two Thursday lunchtimes left till exam leave is irrelevant..but something is better than nothing) Looks like syllabus is nearly finished.

DD's MFL teacher went on a Geography trip yesterday for a year she does not even tutor - leaving the GCSE group with a cover session ?

LooseAtTheSeams · 20/04/2018 07:52

Stickerrocks great results - well done to dd!Star
Art exam out of the way today and music transcription will be finished off after school. I think that's all the music coursework done!
DS still has to clock up hours for the computer science programming task even though he's finished it, which is basically 2 more lessons and 2 after-school sessions. Seems a bit pointless but the school has to sign to say it's been 20 hours, apparently.

brainmelt · 20/04/2018 10:01

loose many congrats on getting Art out of the way! Wine
I feel like our DCs have been put out on the Grand National course and it's just about one more jump, and one more jump, and one more and all we can do is tick boxes.
teen unless they haven't covered everything yet, if it's just supervised revision I guess a cover teacher can handle that?

JufusMum · 20/04/2018 10:29

mmzz Thankfully DD is an only so come 21st June we are OUT of there!

Basically the entire MFL department left before Easter including a French teacher who just walked out of a lesson and never came back! So they have said they want students to bed in with the new teachers...I mean ffs.

BlueBelle123 · 20/04/2018 10:31

Teen sounds like you had a great night.....I really enjoyed Phatom!

Loose DS's school also carried on with the CS NEA after it become known it wouldn't count as they still had to comply with spending 20 hours on it......I imagine you will be having a few of Wine tonight as Art will finally be finished!!

In DS's maths lesson today they are having a taster lesson on A level Maths/FM taken by another teacher........reading between the lines I reckon the take up for maths in 6th form must be pretty low especially for FM. Although, I wouldn't be at all surprised if once DC exactly get their results they might well change their mind at that point.
