Well biology test will be missed tomorrow by dgd. She really can't miss school now too much! Stress causes her tummy trouble too and she hates her meds we can't force them down her throat but she did say after today at hospital she will start taking them so she doesn't gave to go through unpleasant treatment again! Also another appointment back to clinic ( sigh) I'm beginning to feel like I will never, ever, have a stress free life free of any worry!
And that's before the dreaded exams!Hmm

Sostenueto · 18/04/2018 21:28

,bluebelle that should read!Grin

stickerrocks · 18/04/2018 21:43

Sost some people would probably pay good money for a chair like that as a garden feature.

I popped upstairs earlier when DD was reading and asked what she's done revision wise today. I got snarled at. She said earlier that the school is contacting the exam boards to inform them of recent events. I don't want to be too hard on her, but I wonder if she (mistakenly) thinks this offers some kind of get out 9f jail free card. My niece sat an A level paper the day after she failed to resuscitate her DGF and still didn't see any rwal benefit from a plea to the exam board.

I put it outside my front for a while with free to good home but no offers to take stickerocks I've asked everyone I know if they want showerchair but no takers. Any suggestions welcome to give it a new home Smile

Sostenueto · 18/04/2018 21:51

It is such an awful situation stickerocks and on top of these exams too. Already my dgd suffering from stress let alone a sad terrible loss of a fellow student. I curse our education system and what it us doing to the precious dcs.Sad

Sostenueto · 18/04/2018 21:53

On a lighter note I'm allowed a tipple at bedtime which I have duly taken with relish and off to bed I go with an added spring in my heels! Best wishes and thoughts to allFlowers

BlueBelle123 · 18/04/2018 21:56

mmzz yes he would definitely work at home, the revision at school seems to be here's some questions now do them with or without your books and pupils can ask teachers questions if needed, plus talking is allowed. Not knocking their approach as it's done in a very relaxed way.

How are other schools handling their revision lessons. Maths is a bit more structured but DS has been told he can do his own thing.

Teenmum60 · 18/04/2018 22:09

I curse our education system and what it us doing to the precious dcs.sad Totally agree its antiquated and has not moved with the times....why they even have to hand-write answers instead of using online tests - I don't know - because very little handwriting is now done in the work place.
DD's birthday is tomorrow - thank you for good wishes!

Sost - patio looking very good ...sorry your DD is not well.

DD is still fairly relaxed with exams she thinks the Biology test went quite well (It was paper 2 from Jan 18 I think) she's excited about her birthday she had the new guitar tonight (saw her DF this evening for a meal and presents)....my pressies in the morning (I think she sees the benefit of having split parents on these occasions).

Bluebelle - DD revises better at home - she'll enjoy the last two weeks in school but then it will be nice to have a week at home to prepare for the first weeks exams. Oddly enough I am more worried about the second week exams; Eng Lit, Maths and Physics - all important subjects three days in a row.

I'm shattered and looking forward to my bed tonight!

Teenmum60 · 18/04/2018 22:13

Bluebelle - not sure how they are handling revision other than apparently the Physics teacher gets annoyed if he see's the DC's making notes ...he says the notes should have been done when the subjects were originally covered NOT in revision lessons and they should all be listening and paying attention!

LooseAtTheSeams · 18/04/2018 22:47

Teen happy birthday to your dd! Cake
Sostenueto poor dgd - hope she feels much better soon. Good to see pup again!
Thanks to you and dgd.

AlexanderHamilton · 19/04/2018 00:56

So sorry to hear the sad event stickerrock

We’ve had tears tonight. French speaking exam tomorrow & several months/years of frustration at something dd finds very difficult in her dance compared to her peers all came out tonight.

mmzz · 19/04/2018 05:50

Are any of your DC still being taught new material? DS is for maths and geography, although I think they are due to finish this week or next. Cutting it fine....

DS is in the top sets. If they can't cope with a fast enough pace to get everything done by now, then what about the lower sets?

mmzz · 19/04/2018 05:52

Alex it's just the stress of everything getting to her and coming out through that one weak spot. Good luck to your DD with her French oral today.

LooseAtTheSeams · 19/04/2018 08:44

Agree with mmzz - stress has to come out somehow. Good luck to everyone with MFL speaking and listening!
DS1 says all the lessons are revision now apart from mopping up coursework, of course!

BlueBelle123 · 19/04/2018 09:13

Good luck MFL people!

I think it's now just History and Geography that are still teaching new stuff.

If this gorgeous weather continues over the weekend as its supposed to I will be surprised if DS does as much revision as he would on a rainy day. Is my DS the only one that is so effected by the weather!!!!

Teenmum60 · 19/04/2018 09:21

Alex - I think girls (and some boys) tend to be highly critical of themselves - always comparing...I dare say there will be lots of tears in the forthcoming months and hopefully some tears of joy come 23/8...hope Oral exam goes well!

Computer Science still not completed at DD's school...and I have a feeling they still maybe doing some extending work in French on Alcohol/Drugs topic (although she has covered this with tutor).

I think English Lang/Lit and DT moderated grades come back early next week ...it will be a nervous household.

Oratory1 · 19/04/2018 10:00

Good luck with all the Orals (that's one we managed to avoid - dyslexic DS allowed to give up languages) and to ant art still in progress. All courses still finished apart form CS and given the rate at which DS finds stuff they haven't covered every time he looks at a paper I'm not sure they will complete it. I'm guessing too much time was taken up on the coursework - which now doesn't count !! And three changes of teacher in year 10 didn't help. Its frustrating as it could be his best subject but at least he should get a decent pass and doesn't need it for A level CS. So impressed with history department who have put so much work in and covered the course by feb half term and given a huge amount of help in terms of how to answer the questions etc - if only they could all be like that !!

Good luck to all - at least the end is in sight. We found A levels tough in a different way but much less stressful overall than this mad GCSE scramble.

Hello everyone! I've just found this thread - have a DS in year 11 and DD in year 13!

DS also hasn't covered all of computer science. He says they spent most time doing programming and have done "hardly any" theory. I have bought him the revision guide and hope it has enough detail in it. RS is also a nightmare - compulsory at his school, but only given 4 lessons a fortnight. In year 10 his class had a great time debating, but apparently didn't cover any "content". So this year a different teacher trying to get some content covered didn't allow discussion, and I think they gave her a really hard time. They have now been told that there is no time for the "Christian practices" topic, and they are still rushing through some others that they've not yet finished! He is strangely calm about it!

French speaking tomorrow and German speaking next Tuesday.

brainmelt · 19/04/2018 11:20

We got moderated grade for History essay. 98%! So very happy for him. Though I know it still has to be moderated...
sostenuto gorgeous patio!

mmzz · 19/04/2018 11:23

98%! That's amazing. Well done to your DS!

brainmelt · 19/04/2018 11:28

Thanks mmzz He's got a super good and tough History teacher and decided to follow every bit of advice he received from him...

mmzz · 19/04/2018 11:36

Deciding to do that takes real maturity, brainmelt. You should be proud!
