Just had email come through for final options selection which has to be made by 9/3.

Interesting to see that they have 5 blocks and Biology appears in 4 of them - so up take in Biology is going to be very high and also looks like Chemistry and Maths have high uptakes ...I know there are allot of girls looking to pursue medicine ...

Only reservation on list is that Eng Lit is in same box as DT (both only appear in box 1)...if results go badly for Biology I was thinking Eng Lit would be fall back but that will no longer be an option ..

Looks like Physics class will be small which is good...

Have managed to pick up dgd who's moaning because she could have gone to school on bus ( which she hates) because she doesn't want to be penalised for prom. Shock school is open just no trains, ridiculous!
Snow is soft, deepish but melting in bright sunshine. Down the road 6 miles just a tiny bit of snow, really weird.
Live at most easterly point in GB. ( well 6 miles down the road)Grin

Teenmum60 · 27/02/2018 13:20

Finally really snowing now ....

mmzz · 27/02/2018 13:23

We had real snow for an hour this morning, but it has stopped and the sun is out. Was pretty whilst it lasted though.

Teenmum60 · 27/02/2018 13:26

I am hoping (and I know I shouldnt) that it snows on Thursday ....DD's school does world book day and the older girls have taken to dressing up again (they stopped in Yr 8/9)..I can foresee last minute request coming my way :-(

mmzz · 27/02/2018 13:32

I miss having little children who called me mummy and thought I could make anything better for them but one big advantage of being part that stage is not having to come up with fancy dress costumes. I hated that task (and I'm not overstating things!).
I don't think you are in the wrong, teenmum, I'd be praying for snow too!

Teenmum60 · 27/02/2018 13:58

Last year was quite easy because she went as a Shadow Hunter...just last minute purchase of leather look trousers... she's at her dad's tomorrow night so I might just leave him to it :-)

PetersfieldTutor · 27/02/2018 14:39

Hi Mums in Petersfield. I am a local tutor teaching Maths and Science GCSE and I am wondering whether there would be any interest in having an intensive revision course for Maths or Science.

These would be 2 or 3-day events where I would cover the entire GCSE and help to prepare them for the summer exams. These 2 or 3-day events would take place during the Easter holidays.

If your a Mum with children taking their GCSE's soon and would be interested in having them attend or just to find out some more information then please message. At this stage, I am just undertaking a bit of research to see if there would be enough interest to pursue this.

Thanks in advance for the messages.

AlexanderHamilton · 27/02/2018 14:58

Dd is booked on a 2 day maths revision workshop where I live.

mmzz · 27/02/2018 15:03

I wouldn't (even if I lived in Petersfield), but that's because my DC don't struggle with maths or science and because the school lays on so much intervention for those who do struggle, that paying for more would feel like overkill.
However, I believe there is plenty of demand for service such as the one you are offering. I'd suggest you contact the schools locally and see if you can advertise in their newsletters or put an ad in the local free paper or create a one page website and pay for some google adwords advertising.

Oddsocks15 · 27/02/2018 17:16

TheDonald my work colleague had similar with her dgd first she was gay now bi.

Teen my DC don’t do WBD at their secondary school and I am so glad... I feel your pain, I do not miss dress up days.

I’m in the South East and hardly any snow, but it is cold

Oddsocks15 · 27/02/2018 18:19

Forgot to say thank you mmzz for the recommendation for Mr Salles English Guide, DD says it is really helping with her revision....

mmzz · 27/02/2018 18:21

@Oddsocks15 that's great. I'm glad.

Sostenueto · 27/02/2018 18:29

Yes my dgd likes Mr Salle's too for English language but Mr bruff for literature. So thank you from me too mmzz.
Only a little bit of revision done as pup has been so demanding because I couldn't take her out. Also I think she's hormonal too along with dgd.

Stickerrocks · 27/02/2018 18:30

PF tutor I wouldn't be interested because DD'S school runs ample revision classes during the holidays and DD would have to go to work each day.

PF tutor My DD has a French tutor and I have found that 121's have been invaluable - I would not have agreed to group sessions- I just dont think they offer anything different to schools - many of which will do there own revision sessions during Easter. if I was you i would look for 121 intensive work with pupils.

AlexanderHamilton · 27/02/2018 18:57

You see I’m different to the rest of you as due to the nature of her school dd’s School don’t run intervention or holiday revising n sessions. They have early class but Dd physically can’t get there for 8am.

I tried to find her a 1:1 tutor but as she doesn’t get home until 7.30pm each night & has Saturday morning school it wasn’t possible.

Teenmum60 · 27/02/2018 19:27

AlexanderHamilton - I think you have to do what works for you ....I'm disappointed I have to use a French Tutor at all given that I pay for her Dd to be privately Educated but I knew this was the only route I would get DD through her GCSE given that she was not allowed to drop French and she does not get on with French teacher (however the tutor has been worth every penny).

AlexanderHamilton · 27/02/2018 19:31

I knew there would be compromises when we agreed that Dd coup attend a vocational school.

Teenmum60 · 27/02/2018 19:51

AlexanderHamilton but its great that she is doing what she loves and will also get great GCSE's - win win situation :-)

DoNotBringLulu · 27/02/2018 20:02

Hi all, just little flurries of snow here - we're on the South coast - I am hoping the blizzard forecast for Thursday doesn't happen as I am off to the theatre...paid for a good ticket hoping we don't get stranded!

Mocks seem to be going OK this week for ds, he said Maths went well today.

I found one to one tutoring for Maths when ds was in year 8 gave him a massive boost and it paid off.

Hope the snow clears up for everyone..or not....!

Teenmum60 · 27/02/2018 20:35

Yes - we have some revision done tonight ....DD has completed part of Chemistry pass paper albeit with her Ipad open to assist in answering questions - when Ipad died so did continuing with past paper.... Think I need to remind DD that she will not be allowed Ipad in exam ... I gave up Wine just after new year - think I will be consuming Gin as we get closer to the exams.

BlueBelle123 · 27/02/2018 21:27

DS has said that after Easter as a lot of lessons will probably be revision that he wants to take a few sick days as he reckons that he would do more at home than at school, I'm inclined to agree........will anyone else be doing this?

Stickerrocks · 27/02/2018 21:36

Don't I will also be stranded yards away from you, if you're off to see the musical. I'm more than happy to open up my office to strangers, so message me. I'm more concerned about having to drive up the motorway on Friday after work.

I think tutoring works for specific issues, getting you over particular hurdles, but I wouldn't use one as a matter of course. DD would probably have benefited for MFL, but she has to accept that she can't be good at everything and Mel's are simply not her thing. She'll be delighted with a 5 or 6.
