And any other schools you may wish to add... Have used threads from the previous few years as part of my research and ds sat Trinity today! I'm more of a lurker than a thread starter but decided to bite the bullet and offer a hand to hold. Good luck to all dc's sitting exams over the next few weeks! Grin

iwantavuvezela thats what my DS said too about St Dunstans. One of his friends whizzed through the maths and sat twiddling his thumbs for 20 mins and couldn't go back over the paper. They also did a classroom assessment. The entrance format has changed since my DD sat the test and I am not sure if it is for the better. Will see what happens next...

Robotsandunicorns · 11/01/2018 00:18

Hi all

I am new to this but have read a lot of these threads from past years and they have been brilliant so I am glad I found a current one!

We have gone for W, T and the Cedars. We have an interview on Monday for Whitgift amazingly....

Not yet heard from T and cedars was only yesterday....

T will be posting rejection letters tomorrow 😬😬 but hoping to hear soon as we applied for an art scholarship.

mummytummy3 · 11/01/2018 04:14

Hiya, I can’t sleep. We got email on Monday for W and nothing from T. Applied sports for both. Most if not all ds friends have interviews at W. They have deduced that only the music applicants have not heard yet. Also none of us have sports assessment info yet. Is that similar to everyone else? Will be hanging out at the letterbox and phone stuck to my hand tomorrow (today)Sad

turboturtle · 11/01/2018 07:17

mummytummy3 I know the feeling. Just so anxious at the moment.
8 out 10 of DS friends who sat the exam at W (not all from his school), have also been offered interviews. Have they changed their practice this year with the introduction of the new head? I heard that Royal Russell interviewed everyone on the same day as the exam.
I concur with the theory around music applicants at T, although I was under the impression that only unsuccessful applicants would have been notified this week, but this thread has dispelled that. Confused
Is there anyone else who applied for a music scholarship at T who has not heard anything yet?

SoupDragon · 11/01/2018 07:19

That sounds similar to previous years to be honest.

T are interviewing until the end of the month so there is still plenty of time.

I remember the waiting well, even after 8 years!

SoupDragon · 11/01/2018 07:22

I think unsuccessful applicants will know by this weekend but those being called for interview will be hearing throughout the interview period. They have a lot to get through.

Emma303 · 11/01/2018 07:35

Has everyone that's heard from W been offered an interview for Monday. As ours is on Tuesday and it's making me worried that means he's borderline 😭😭 haven't heard of Anyone to have interview on Tuesday!

SoupDragon · 11/01/2018 08:33

They can’t interview everyone on the same day 😂

spacecadet48 · 11/01/2018 08:38

Emma303 if my memory is correct they are interviewing all week up until Tuesday 23rd. (I think!) it's all on the school website.

Wobblypig · 11/01/2018 08:49

We had w interview yesterday. Really fine; a few academic questions for DS -nothing difficult. Interview with us seemed to be a quick ‘ why Whitgift’.
T tomorrow.

sooooooonowwhat · 11/01/2018 10:21

Anyone know how many T interview? Or for that matter any of the schools? I was told 850 sat for Alleyn's but not sure how many they plan to interview.

lilybookins · 11/01/2018 10:32

Soooooo - from what I remember last year think they interviewed just under 300 for Alleyn's, think around the same number sat last year too so I guess it's just over a third called for interview.

sooooooonowwhat · 11/01/2018 10:41

Thanks Lily! No idea yet if ds has done well enough and to be honest but fretting over numbers gives me something to focus on at least. I'm supposed to be 'working' from home today but aaarrgh so not focussed!

stourton · 11/01/2018 11:56

Finally received an email for interview for W, next Friday.

T just sent an email saying they will contact me with a date.
A relief to tell DS that he did not mess up the exam, but another fretting from me about interview result - a problem I would rather have Smile

Will of course assure him that even if he doesn’t get in, does not mean he messed up interview.

Does anyone know how may set for 10 plus and how many for interviews at W &T ?

MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 11/01/2018 12:10

Good news, stourton. Approx 150 sat T 10+. I’ll ask when we go on Monday how many are being interviewed!

We got the same email 2 years ago from T, and had a Saturday interview, so it could well be the same for you.

No idea about W numbers this year at, as we didn’t sit and don’t know anyone else who did, but it’s always more than sit T.

Emma303 · 11/01/2018 12:15

Feeling gutted for my son we got the dreaded letter from trinity today saying he didn't get an interview. He's going to be crushed!
We have his whitgift interview so keeping fingers crossed for that. Feeling really gutted for him right now 😔 .

Does anyone know if they send out results or anything? just something to go on as it would be interesting to see if it was his maths that let him down. English is his strong suit

mummytummy3 · 11/01/2018 12:24

So sorry to hear that Emma303, we have interview on Tuesday too and a lot of other ds friends are. Is it true interviews are based on exam marks?

Firefox1066 · 11/01/2018 12:25

Hi Emma303 sorry to hear about this. It really is tough on us parents, but my experience looking at the kids is that they are very resilient. More importantly, your DS has done very well to get an interview at W, so that should be your focus now.

T & W do not send out results but they are usually willing to give you pointers as to where your DS might have fallen down.

Best of luck to you and DS for W next week!! (We will be there on Monday, Tuesday and Friday ourselves)

Puddinglane12 · 11/01/2018 12:47

Emma, sorry to ‘hear’ about your T news, please remember the T intake is smaller than W, so keep reassuring your DS ( I’m sure you do), that he has done well and to keep his head high, wishing him the best for his W interview.
I think if you ask both schools, they will give you an idea of how DS did in the exams.

Lily, hi, thanks for your response re JAGS. A lot of people have said they don’t interview again afterwards, but 1 person said he thinks they do. I had a nose on their website and found they have put a date, but for academic scholarships only, 1st of Feb. ( I must’ve missed this when I looked ages ago). So I assume that means they won’t do general interviewsSmile. Maybe they are changing things this year.

Best wishes to all who still have exams and those that have interviews/ waiting to hear.

I’m off work today, which means too much time to be thinking things over... not that I don’t have other things that I should get on with.Hmm

MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 11/01/2018 12:54

Oh, I’m really sorry to hear that emma. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you both for the W interview - your DS should be very proud that he has got to the interview stage there.

stourton · 11/01/2018 13:22

emma all the best for W interview. Hope your DS understands how well he’s done to get this and not to worry too much with the limited numbers of Trinity.

Thanks for the info meetie

Emma303 · 11/01/2018 13:43

Thanks all. I'm going to put my upset to one side when he gets home and keep focused and positive on his interview. I am considering not telling him until he's had his interview? Do you think that would make things better or worse? I don't want him to be under the pressure of knowing it's the only school he has an interview for. But at the same time I don't want him to be so casual thinking he prob will have an interview at T . T was his dream . Ohhh what to do?

sandybayley · 11/01/2018 14:04

Pudding - on the JAGS question DD had a scholarship interview after the exam. That was in 2015 though so I don't know if things have changed.

The JAGS scholarships are an honorary thing rather than a financial thing. Nice to have though!

sooooooonowwhat · 11/01/2018 15:14

Him Emma so sorry to hear your news. In your position I would probably not tell ds he hadn't got it yet just so there's less pressure, but it's really your call. What was it your ds didn't like as much about Whitgift? Perhaps you can address that and try to get him excited about the interview there? I know ds has his favourite schools and despite my trying really hard to manage his expectations he is already [over]confident that he will have to choose between his favourites and will get art scholarships to both. Having seen the level of competition I think the odds are very slim re him getting his first choice offers plus scholarships, so I am waiting until he has done his last exam to start explaining why it's fine if that doesn't happen but don't want him to think I don't have faith in him iyswim. Keeping my fingers crossed for you and your ds. x

Emma303 · 11/01/2018 15:32

Thank you,
He is super excited about whitgift he just preferred trinity . He's been going there every sat for tuition. And the fact it's not as focused on sports and the fact T is smaller and closer to home he's familiar with staff ect. I have decided not to tell him as I don't want him to feel disheartened thinking he's not good enough. He is! And I'm so proud of him for coming this far,
He struggled with exam papers he's a bit over confident and doesn't fully read things. Plus he takes he's time lol but I was hoping he had still managed to pass.
Good luck to your ds I hope he does get his choice in school and offers and an art scholarship. Fingers crossed x
