And any other schools you may wish to add... Have used threads from the previous few years as part of my research and ds sat Trinity today! I'm more of a lurker than a thread starter but decided to bite the bullet and offer a hand to hold. Good luck to all dc's sitting exams over the next few weeks! Grin

Thanks for clarifying Soup! I was a bit worried it meant ds was borderline and they were checking, sounds like it's just standard procedure!

DS1 was asked English stuff and he got a hefty scholarship :o

I believe that they ask something on the weaker out of maths and English but that is purely anecdotal. Certainly both mine were asked English and they were bad at it (DS2 particularly so!)

Hi my DS was asked maths questions at the T interview a few years ago. It was his stronger subject, which the headmaster mentioned when he ‘interviewed’ us, ( parents). And he was given a good scholarship. But DS said they were really easy/ basic questions. He really enjoyed this interview, the staff are really lovely and know how to make everyone feel relaxed. The item they were asked to bring in was just used as an ice-breaker. So best to take something that means a lot to them and they can genuinely talk about freely and easily, rather than a complicated project made up for the interview.

His W interview was a general chat and then a discussion around his English essay. He definitely didn’t take anything with him to W interview and I don’t know anyone who did. I echo earlier posters’ comments about how well the W interviews are run. He got a scholarship from W as well.

As an aside I wonder if anyone who has a DD who has done the JAGS exam in the past, knows if they interview after. If so do they interview everyone who has passed or are they borderline or scholarship interviews? They already all had a session with the headmistress, during a lesson on the preselection test days, which was in the autumn term.
Girls’ schools seem to do it all differently. One of the schools she sat had the interviews before the exam day, another was on the actual day of the exam ( which we were not expecting), and the last one doesn’t do interviews at all.

Excuse my typo, I mean the preselection tests days which were in the autumn term.

It's really unclear in my letter when I should expect to hear from T. Having heard back from whitgift so fast it's made me assume we won't hear back from trinity. When is the last date we could receive a call then? As it days if you haven't performed well enough then letters will be sent out by Thursday this week?

MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 10/01/2018 09:55

Emma, the letter I have says phone calls for T interviews are made any time up to 31 Jan, and “no” letters are posted out no later than Friday 12th Jan.

Sit tight, and if you don’t have a “no” letter by the weekend, then you’re probably going to get a phone call soon.

Hi Puddinglane

No, they don't interview again, scholarship or otherwise. It's all done on the pre-selection and then exam results. I had to be interviewed but that was because we were bursary applicants.

Yay - just had a call from T. Interview next week Smile

Although now I’m a bit worried that means he’s borderline. Message to self: stop overthinking it!! Grin

Good luck to everyone still waiting.

Emma, I checked my old emails earlier this morning (I was stressing quietly at home all morning, whilst pretending to be calm on here!)

And actually, last time around we got an email from T on the Thursday saying that we’d got an interview, and they’d call us to arrange it. It’s still early days.

Haha Meetie that's exactly what I thought too! I think we just need to go with the flow. Emma and Firefox keeping my fingers crossed for you, ds has a few friends who applied to W who are in my opinion very much W opinion haven't yet heard, so there's still hope! Pudding sorry I don't know anyone with dd's sitting JAGS but if I do hear anything will send you an update!

This is third childs turn at 11+. My eldest who is now 22 went to Whitgift. My daughter is in St Dunstan's and loves it. My 10yr old has sat Whitgift and has an interview on Monday morning. Found out via email on Monday. There is no science to when you find out. We only completes our application at the end of October so i truly think it's as simple as who gets marked first. We were surprised at the speed and were worried after seeing some of his efforts in English at the weekend. But we are hoping he gets into Whitgift. I love the school...he did DC and Alleyns which are our local schools but i know Alleyns wouldn't suit my son and don't think he will do enough for an interview. DC well we will see ...he didn't mind either exam and today is the last for St Dunstan's which is all online which i am a little anxious about. Good luck to all the anxious parents out there. I am in a constant state of anxiety!

Thanks Meetie and Tolacar DS has assessments for Sport on Monday and Art on Tuesday. There will be a separate letter or email to us, I guess with when his actual interview will be.

Congrats Spacecadet! Like you the anxiety just moves from exam prep to exam result to interview now!!

We were at Alleyn's said was 'ok'. Interesting that St D's was all online - had not known that in advance and hope did not put DD off. We registered too late for their prep courseBlush waiting game now. Nice letter from A's setting out timetable for interviews etc.

citykat my son and a few of his friends did the online St d today too. I was worried about it as all of it including maths and English was online multiple choice. One of my friends kids said it was horrific, another said it was harder than DC and Alleyns and my DS seemed ok but that means nothing!

Report
iwantavuvezela · 10/01/2018 21:18

My DS did St Dunstans today as well. I think the online thing was quite tricky, couldn't go back to a question, so either needed to do it or move on. Anyway he said the maths was quite tricky and some stuff he had not done in test papers.
