Its 2018....countdown to 1st March secondary school allocations!

Well two months down and two to go to 1st March. I have been fairly chilled since applications were submitted however now that 2018 is here it is creeping into my thoughts more frequently.

We are truly lucky to live in a town with very good secondary schools but I know DD would be heartbroken if she didn't get her first choice (a top 10 non selective girls school).

Realistically we should be virtually sure of a place as if we don't qualify on distance within our feeder school group then she should get a sports aptitude place (she score 10 percentage points higher than the required score for the last 3 years). However a part of me is still nervous as I imagine what if all 200 girls taking the aptitude test got amazing scores too. Logically I know this isn't the case as other girls at her school score 20-25 marks lower than DD but there are only 9 places available so the margin of error is small.

Anyone else beginning to get jittery? Please tell me I'm not alone.

finally sent my appeal.
reason - it is the only school that offers STEM program..not sure if that would be enough for them to consider us at all bit i have nothing else.
i have added the distance as well and how it would help her independence to walk to school and not have to take the bus to her current school she was given that is 5 miles away.

fingers crossed but not holding my breath!

Netflix when will u find out if its successfull. Good luck with your appeal

netflixandpill · 14/03/2018 11:40

I honestly have no idea.
it says all appeals will be dealt with by the end of May and places if allocated by June.
So it could be a while yet. I quited the low % of girls in STEM occupations on my appeal as that is literally the only thing i have.

dipsydoo22 · 15/03/2018 18:30

Well from reading about other peoples appeals sometimes 1 thing is all u need. Wish you all the best of luck. Are there a few of you appealing ?

gussyfinknottle · 15/03/2018 18:58

My dd wants me to appeal but we are actually happy with the school she got (it was our secret first preference but we didn't put it first) We have lodged an appeal because she asked me to but we are gently and steadily appealing to her to change her mind.
Because it isn't a faith school, unlike her preference, she doesn't have to do RE at GCSE. It performs as well as the faith school and both are Maths colleges - her strong point. She isn't religious although she is at a faith primary .

Hello....
Anyone have any feedback and what percentage marks the Hertfordshire and Essex school for girls is looking for on the Music Appitude test? Many thanks
