Its 2018....countdown to 1st March secondary school allocations!

Well two months down and two to go to 1st March. I have been fairly chilled since applications were submitted however now that 2018 is here it is creeping into my thoughts more frequently.

We are truly lucky to live in a town with very good secondary schools but I know DD would be heartbroken if she didn't get her first choice (a top 10 non selective girls school).

Realistically we should be virtually sure of a place as if we don't qualify on distance within our feeder school group then she should get a sports aptitude place (she score 10 percentage points higher than the required score for the last 3 years). However a part of me is still nervous as I imagine what if all 200 girls taking the aptitude test got amazing scores too. Logically I know this isn't the case as other girls at her school score 20-25 marks lower than DD but there are only 9 places available so the margin of error is small.

Anyone else beginning to get jittery? Please tell me I'm not alone.

My daughter got her 1st choice, very relieved, been such an anxious few months.
Sorry to hear of those who didn't get the outcome they wanted :-(

Missuseff · 01/03/2018 17:53

Devastated child here, got his third choice which we only put down because it’s at the end of our street but it’s single sex and not what he wants (or what we want, for that matter) so now it’s waiting list time! Because 4 months of waiting wasn’t stressful enough...

Dancergirl · 01/03/2018 18:03

So sad to hear of these upset children. It's such a horrible system Sad

MsGameandWatching · 01/03/2018 18:13

MCSpammer under the offer there was a form to submit after checking a yes or no tab, with a fortnight to accept the place.

Stircrazyschoolmum · 01/03/2018 18:52

I haven’t told mine.. he’s oblivious. I think there’s a good chance of things shifting.. Just got to sit tight.

Islandbabe · 01/03/2018 18:59

We had to apply in paper so no e-admission link. Anyone know if they email you and what email address it comes from. Want to try search in case it goes to Junk etc. Don't want to wait weeks for snail mail. (We presently live overseas.)

Gowgirl · 01/03/2018 19:02

4th choice, anyone got a dc at chiswick school?

MsGameandWatching · 01/03/2018 19:04

Gower I have a friend with a child there and their younger one will probably have got a place there today.

We were offered place at school not on dd's list. It was the same for dd 2 years ago. H&F, just terrible....

Takinrujomu · 01/03/2018 20:11

Disappointed child here too. 5th choice. We live in an estate with very few options. So it was a choice of pick all the schools you like and hope for the best. Ds is gutted cos none of his friends are going to that school. Will sit tight and hope for the best.

orangina · 01/03/2018 20:15

(ds this year, dd 2 years ago.... aurgh)

prh47bridge · 01/03/2018 22:19

On behalf of the admissions experts on here, can I request that anyone wanting advice on a possible appeal starts their own thread, preferably with the word "appeal" in the title. That makes it much more likely you will get a quick response.

LardLizard · 02/03/2018 00:12

Heart goes out to all children and parents that didn’t get their preferred school
I think it’s terrible that schools vary so much

Offler · 02/03/2018 00:30

DD got her 1st choice, quite surprised actually, and we’re all very happy (and relieved). We only have one grammar school in the area she could go to, and her 11+ score was just over the score that everyone had eventually got a place in the last 4 years. We were expecting to wait list, so very relieved that we don’t have to go through that. She would have been happy with the 2nd choice as that’s where many of her friends are going and I think a wait list situation would have been one wait too many!

Sympathy to those who are disappointed though, and I hope things work out.

Yokohamajojo · 02/03/2018 09:00

We got our second choice, which in the end was us parent's first choice so we're very happy, son is slightly disappointed but I think he'll come around.

Olivia2007 · 02/03/2018 09:50

My daughter got her first choice. I was worried they’d give her the 2nd choice as her brother attends that school but she was lucky

GrockleBocs · 02/03/2018 10:03

I just want to mention tiggy here. I sent over a long message last night about our grounds for appeal. It was very specific so I was a little concerned about outing myself :) This morning I have had a kind and very helpful response and I just wanted to put it on board that I am very grateful.
